Picked up from cruise ship by owner Solvi, along with two other couples, Driven through Alta on snow covered roads then through forests to Garcia Lodge. The other couples were on a different tour to us and got kitted out first, while we had a look around the lodge and were introduced to Missy a large but friendly Norwegian Forest cat. Our tour guide Ronald helped us with all the outdoor gear - jackets, trousers, socks, boots, gloves and hats, then taken to our transport - a snowmobile pulling an enclosed two seater buggy. We were driven, at speed through snow trails and woods to a large open plateau with a sign which read Beskades, we both had to be helped out, maybe our age!, but we could not get our legs at the right angle to alight in a dignified manner, all had good laugh. The scenery was breath taking, so vast and strangely quiet. We continued our journey and stopped on what we were told was a frozen lake. More laughs getting out onto the lake, reindeer skins were laid onto the snow, Ronald then drilled a hole through the ice into the water beneath, we were both relieved that the ice looked thick. Shirley, my wife was then given a small rod and line to attract any fish,( lucky still to be alive ! )either they weren't or they did not like the bait but no bites were made. We were given an opportunity to take photos as often as we liked.Ronald then assembled a contraption on which he made a fire and cooked delicious sausages wrapped in bacon, washed down with coffee and completed with homemade cake. All along, Ronald told us about the area, climate ,his family and work. It was extremely peaceful and serene and Ronald remarked about the complete lack of wind. We could have taken a walk with snowshoes but decided ourselves not to, it was coming in quite dark and we had had a wonderful experience. The journey back was as exciting as the first, on return to the Lodge we removed all our snow gear, had waffles and coffee and then were shown the next part of our tour, the aurora dome. The dome was large but cosy, had a double bed with reindeer skins, comfortable chairs, good lighting and heating. We both had a lie down and reflected on the day. We had an excellent evening meal and conversation with the two young servers. A walk outside, clear sky but no Northern Lights unfortunately! ,showers available, before a small walk through the snow for a well deserved good night sleep to end an absolutely fantastic day. Breakfast was enjoyable, more photos then a lovely drive back to the ship by Solvi in her Tesla S 85, it was made more enjoyable not just because of the continuing sunshine, but by listening to the life that Solvi has had and the history of the Lodge. This was one of a number of tours that the Lodge offers and in our experience of this one is highly recommended. Although holidays are something we cannot book because of this dreadful virus, when the time does arrive, don't think twice about visiting here, just book it!! Sorry about the delay from our January 2020 visit, to the review now, in June. We believed we'd reviewed it, but just looked through the reviews and couldn't find ours.

We have just stayed for 4 nights here and I cannot recommend it enough. The staff were amazing, always available and so helpful. Lovely people! The rooms are lovely and warm with controllable heating and decorated in the Sami style. Lots of rooms to relax in that are equally as nice. There is a sauna and a jacuzzi which we didn't use! They have all the equipment you could imagine, snowmobiles, snow shoes, husky rides, and everything needed to keep you warm throughout your stay. The food was delicious and we got to taste the typical Norwegian dishes as well as other food. They catered very well for the vegetarians in our group too. It was snowing regularly during our trip but the snow was cleared every day, sometime more regularly. The walks and views from here are so beautiful too - definitely in the winter but I am told in the summer too. I highly recommend this lodge!

We stayed in Glaglia lodge for one night in preparation for our two day dogsledding adventure. They picked us up form Scandic hotel. Then we had a good dinner. In the morning the very kind owner helped us in warm clothes for the trip. It was a very nice personal treatment. On our arrival back they even let us use the shower again in our room.

We booked 2 trips with Gargia Lodge, though did not stay there. We did a snowmobiling trip and a northern lights "chase" and both were excellent. The service and hospitality shown by the staff was super. Terrific equipment (important in these arctic areas) and the location is spectacular. I would highly recommend.
