We booked Straand Hotell as part of Telemarkskanalen package, we bought the dinner package as an add on.
We stood quite a while at reception waiting for someone to check us in, one receptionist was on the phone, another appeared, no welcome just that we could choose dinner at 8pm or 9pm and breakfast 9am or 9.30am. It appears that the hotel prioritises bus groups over individuals. We asked for an earlier breakfast slot because we had to drive to the pickup point for the canal trip for 10am, no, there would be a long queue if we had breakfast earlier. Dinner that evening was a nightmare, the restaurant was packed, 3 bus groups were in and remained in the restaurant the 25mins we were there. I had to ask individuals to hold a metre distance from me, but they laughed in my face and replied they we fully vaccinated....I was not. The 'hot'food was barely warm and the plates were cold pretty standard in Norwegian hotels unfortunately. I felt like we were being offered the leftovers after someone else's party, the buffet was pretty much empty.
I was livid, we could have had a 3 course a la carte meal for what we paid for these' leftovers'. I asked at reception if I could give some feedback and related our experience and how shocked I was at the hotels blatant disregard for CV19 precautions. She said she would speak to the tour guides for the bus groups.
Next morning we went to breakfast at 8.30am, the restaurant was almost empty and we were able to relax and spend more time over it than dinner the evening before.
I dreaded dinner but was pleasantly surprised to find order and system in the restaurant, the woman I spoke to in reception was there and is evidently a manager but never presented herself. The buffet was more filled than the evening before but the hot food was again tepid and the plates cold. I took the opportunity to thank her and she said that the tour guides and groups had been reminded of the current restrictions.
The hotel is an old mountain hotel, well maintained but nothing special, staff weren't particularly friendly and when we checked out we weren't asked if we enjoyed our stay.

Hi Thank you for your feedback. For us it is important with a balance between groups and individuals, both segments are important for us and we work continuously with developing our product with individuals in mind. Regarding you experience in the restaurant, by mistake groups must have been given the same timeslot for dinner. Normally we spread the guests so that all our guests regardless of size have time to enjoy our services in the restaurant. Regards, Lars Arne Straand 5th generation

This hotel is right across the street from a lake and park of sorts. Too bad we got in so late it was almost dark so we couldn’t do much outside.

The hotel is attached to an older building which I think was the restaurant.

The staff was pleasant and check in was quick.

Our room was at the end of the hall and included a balcony of sorts which may have doubled as a fire escape.

The room was small, but clean

There was no AC, but there was a window and sliding door that could open.

The bath was small, but functional and clean

The TV was medium sized, but only got one English channel

There were only a couple outlets for charging

Lighting was somewhat dim in room

Good lighting in bath

The bed was quite comfortable

We went to the hotel restaurant for dinner. It was unusual in that they only had one item for dinner. Not a regular menu. It was salmon (of course) which was good, but more variety would have been nice

Breakfast was included, but it didn’t start until 0800 and we had to be on road at 0700 so they made us to go boxes.

Overall the stay was a pleasant one.

LHL Lærdal was on a bus trip and offered three nights at this hotel. I was satisfied with the welcome and service. We had very good food, the only thing is that the trays at the breakfast were almost empty when we arrived at 9, the time we were allocated one day. It took some time before they managed to fill up with eggs and bacon, boiled eggs and cold cuts. But, everyone was full and good in the end. The dinner buffet was very good with plenty of food. The room was ok, clean and nice over all. We really enjoyed sitting in the blue living room in the evening and chatting and enjoying ourselves. This hotel was a good starting point for day trips I took on the Telemark Canal and the Dalen hotel with afternoon tea. Thank you for having us!

First of all the receptionists should learn to greet people when they come and leave.

We probably got the worst hotel room in history. Room 102. It it nothing like the photos you see on their website. The room was old, not nice, hot and we had one window with view of a parking lot in the back where the employees threw away bottles etc in containers, parked their car etc. Made a lot of noise in addition to the fan just outside our window. The window, we could open, but it is on street level so anyone could look straight in or climb in without a problem. I did not sleep most of the night because the window had to be open because of the heat, but I did not dare to sleep because anyone could just get in. The hotel should provided a fan for every room on that side of the hotel, because it is like an oven during the night when the days are sunny and warm.

The breakfast was OK, but it seems like nothing is made with care and love in this hotel. It is outdated, old and you do not feel welcome.

We ate at the beach bar and the waitress was very nice and friendly, but the food was a disaster and it took us an hour to get one hotdog with fries and an hamburger. Other dining options was not around, because we did not fancy a three or five course meal in the hotel restaurant.

For the money we spent here we could have gotten a super hotel in the city incl. a good nights sleep.

Velkommen tilbake. Hilsen, Lars Arne Straand 5. generasjon

The hotel is nice, but it’s difficult to get food after 18:30, unless you book in the restaurant. Huge line. Tried going down to their overpriced beach restaurant, but they closed ordering early because of too many people ordering food. We had a power outage last night. Didn’t take too long, and the power came back. Later tonight the water will be gone from 22:00 to 08:00 tomorrow morning.
The WIFI is a joke, they call it fast. Maybe it was fast in 2003?
Seriously considering just getting in the car and driving home 3 days early.

Hei, Takk for din tilbakemelding. Velkommen tilbake. Hilsen, Lars Arne Straand 5. generasjon

Straand Hotel in Vrådal is an old venerable hotel with buildings of old and newer category that one would expect for a hotel of that vintage in Vrådal. The check-in, check-out and restaurant staff are very nice and accommodating. We arrived on Thursday, February the 9th and reserved a table to have dinner at the restaurant that evening. See photo taken from the attached menu.
Our plans were to stay two nights and check-out on February the 11. Unfortunately, our experience in the restaurant on Thursday night was so bad that we decided to check out again already on Friday the 10th. The served Rib Roast was not thoroughly baked and/or roasted properly so the meat was simply difficult to cut and consequently chewy as old "dog meat" to chew. Obviously the unprofessional chefs at work in the kitchen had managed to ruin our dining experience. The coffee they served for dessert was cold. We asked for another hot coffee but that was also cold so we just gave up, paid and left the restaurant. We give the Restaurant the rating "POOR"

We had a nice stay at the hotel. The food and location was good, friendly staff in the restaurant. We stayed for a full week and were able to experience the area with many hikes in the wonderful nature. We booked the room via a third party and had payed ekstra for a room where dogs are allowed.

When we checked out we were told that it had been observed vomit in the room and we were charged 1500 NOK for extra cleaning. We are absolutely certain that there had not been any vomiting in the room. There was once when we where at the breakfast, that our dog was able toget an empty packet out of the trash that colored the bed sheets. But that was a minor incident that was about changing the sheets . This was informed to the staff at check out but they would not remove the extra charge

There are particularly 2 things that we find very disappointing on how this is handled by the staff.

1. The incident was recorded in the middle of the week. The staff had plenty of time to approach us regarding this extra charge, it would had been service minded and polite - but they choose not to.

2. It was recorded as " vomit in room" which had not occurred, We ecplained that this had not happened, but for the staff this seemed irrelevant.

We are very disappointed on how this was handled , but also do not agree with the extra charges.

We did a Quick midday stop here for snacks. The service was through a separate, outdoor mini-kichenette, similarly to a street kitchen.
The food and pricing was however something that would have made a real street kitchen ashamed.
We paid 700 NOK for two small prawn sandwiches, with brine conserved prawns.

What a wonderful hotel with superb views. We were a coach party of 29 who arrived 3.30am due to delays with the ferry because of bad weather conditions. We were here for a 2 night stay.
Our courier was given the keys to our rooms immediately and even that early in a morning you could see how lovely the hotel was.
Breakfast was well organised and there was a very good selection of both hot and cold food.
The evening meal buffet was also very good with plenty of choice.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable with fresh towels provided on day 2 and the rooms cleaned.
The staff were very pleasant and when we left the lady in charge came on the bus to say thank you for staying with them and how much they appreciated our custom.
We also had a tour of the lake on the Fram the boat owned by the hotel. This was very informative.

Nice hotel with friendly staff.
Rooms are neat, facilities are good.
Dinner was excellent! Lots of fresh regional products, excellently prepared.
Breakfast was great too.
Everything with an eye for quality and attention to the environment (no plastic disposable packaging).
The owners are also motorcycle enthusiasts themselves, so the ideal combination is to use this hotel as a base for a week of motorcycle touring in beautiful Norway!
