I (Martina) my son and my sister had to attend our Uncle's funeral on March 16th last. We arrived at the Mercure Hotel Linkway West on 15/3/'23 checked in and then our cousin arrived to take us to the mortuary to say our final goodbyes to our favourite Uncle, after spending an hour with him, we went back to the hotel and decided to have a meal in the restaurant. We ordered our meal and after half an hour my sister and son got their meal, I had ordered fish and chips and mushy peas, they had their meal eaten before I got mine, I took a piece of fish and some chips and it was tasty and then I took some mushy peas and started to chew and I felt this loud crunch and I thought I had broken a filling in my tooth so I took the food from my mouth into a serviette and I found a piece of glass, I then emptied the ramekin dish of mushy peas onto my plate and I found more glass. I went into the bar to get a staff member to tell them and the girl said I will take it back to the kitchen. Now my mouth was sore, I had cut my gum (top right at the back) near a double tooth and the skin peeled of and the tip of my tongue was swollen, I was told there is no glass in the kitchen and to report it to the manager the following morning. I did report it to the manager Khem Djedidi in the bar on the 16/3/'23 the morning of my Uncle's funeral. He did say the hotel policy is NO glass in the kitchen. As with the glass I found in my dinner the protocol is the food and glass are put into a sealed container and sent back to their supplier with my complaint and it would take 4/5 months before they would hear back from them. So he gave me his business card and promised to be in touch so I trusted him to get back to me. We went to the funeral and afterwards we went for a meal and my mouth was extremely painful my tongue was swollen so I went to the bathroom with my sister and I squeez my tongue and to my surprise I got a splinter of glass out but it was embarrassing to be the only one at the table not to be eating only having smoothies and for the few days I was there it was cold drinks and smooothies. My son & I went back to the hotel on August 8th for 2 days to visit my Uncle's grave on August 9th for what would have been his 95th birthday and I enquired at the hotel reception if Khem Djedidi was working that day and the lady said yes, so I asked if he would meet me to discuss the glass issue and she opened my file on the computer and said we have no record of this complaint, so later that evening when we were going out for food I asked at reception if the manager would meet me and she said no and no explanation why? I was disappointed. On the morning of our departure for the airport the receptionist gave me a business card for Vicky Owen and said email her and she would help me with my query. I did when I got home and eventually I got a reply stating it wasn't her department and she would pass the message on to Khem and he would be in contact with me but he hasn't the manners to reply and there has been NO contact from the hotel at all. I can only guess that he didn't bother sending the glass to the hotel's supplier and ask questions. I am entitled to know where the glass came from that ended up in my meal. Really disappointed with the hotel and staff response.

We booked a one night stay in the hotel as a base for meeting family and friends on a return trip to StHelens. The hotel staff were friendly, we used the leisure centre and had the facilities to ourselves for the most part. The room was great, would have been even better if there was conditioner. Breakfast was good and the chef accommodated the vege requests. What stopped this from getting a 5 was the evening meal. We had a lovely meal and the restaurant was quiet. We were enjoying a conversation with the family we had come to see with a backdrop of Christmas songs in the background, when they switched them off and had the football blaring. We could hardly hear each other speak. We did ask the staff could they go back to the Christmas songs which didn’t seem possible, they turned it down. Ruined the atmosphere.

Attended the Xmas/Abba tribute night, incl 3 course meal, the Abba act and disco to end. We were a party of 12, food was hit & miss...some were hot & lovely, some were warm, hard roasties but overall edible. Capacity was full to the brim with guests laughing, smiling and great atmosphere, Once the act came on with no break inbetween, the dancefloor was never empty. The only moan was we were seated near the doors which was quite cold until they closed the doors just before the food was served. Overall, great venue, helpful staff, even though they were shortstaffed behind the bar, the staff did their best on such a busy night.

Disgusted with this hotel and the attitude of staff. I accidently booked a room on the 3rd of November instead of 3rd April. I called them immediately (within a minute of realising) to ask them to ammend the date and that I was willing to pay any differences. They refused. I asked to speak to the manager, (who was conveniently busy). I later sent an email to them which has been ignored. I have stated here previously and hence why I tried to re-book. Even paid extra for breakfast which wouldn't be refunded. I'll not be staying here again, the attitude of all concerned shows what they think of our custom.

Family party booking for a huge birthday event booking function room, food, disco and rooms to stay over. No signage for patrons or guests to sign in for the free car parking. Receptionist didn’t advise on signing in. Drinks tokens already paid for were refused at the bar. Room was freezing cold. Absolutely disgusting treatment to guests when a huge amount already paid for. The parking fines of £100 are issued for each day! If you stay for more than one night be aware you have to sign in each day otherwise a fine!

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to the Mercure St Helens. I regret to hear that you have received a parking fine it appears that you missed to follow the signs in the parking and in the Hotel Lobby. Our Car Park is managed by a third party - Parking Eye, the terms and conditions are outlined on over 14 parking signs in the car park, the sign as you enter the car park and also the pull up banner located onsite the hotel reception. If you contact our reception team a member of the team would be more than willing to assist you with the appeal, however I must remind you that it is the responsibility of the driver to register their vehicle and to adhere to the guidelines of the car park chosen. Kind regards Mercure ST Helens

Got scammed by the car park thieves, parking eye.I was a guest at a wedding reception there. I entered my car registration number in the foyer. A short time later received a letter saying I had to pay £60I appealed and provided proof which they said wasn't acceptable. Never heard anything for several months then received a letter saying I would have to pay £120. or receive a CCJ. Will never visit or use a Mercure hotel again.

We had our wedding here on 19/08/23 & couldn't thank the team enough for their help. Myself and my husband would like to add a special shout out to India & Jodie. The two of you were nothing but attentive to myself the night before the wedding & you made sure everything went to plan. We had an amazing day and night celebrating amongst our friends and family, with the staff being incredibly polite and smiley (bar one miserable receptionist who grunted and was quite rude to my family) throughout our stay. You are however, a credit to st Helens!! Also I would like to give a shout out to the manager, Ani, as he was incredibly kind and understanding about the situation with the mother of the bride's room being wrong. My younger sister who has autism cannot be left alone, so she was booked in the room with my mum and step dad however when they arrived it seemed someone had messed up the booking. They added another bed but it was terrible quality, and due to my sister being 16 (however autistic like I mentioned) the miserable receptionist tried charging my mother and step father for a whole separate room for her to be left alone. Of course this could not happen, Ani then went out of his way to address the issue with my mum and step dad, ensuring that my sister could stay with them at no extra cost which was very much recognised and appreciated by myself and my groom. You're all amazing and the day went well, no mix ups and incredibly attentive to those with allergies. Thank you so much for making our day so special.

The staff made it superb. Friendly and fun. Nathan is a great lad. Chef was bang on and cooked a mean poached egg. The bar opened until the early hours with everybody mingling and enjoying each others regional variances. We’d been at Haydock Races and wouldn’t ever think of another place to stay now.👍🏿

I found the staff lovely and helpful and the hotel very clean. The cleaning staff were also lovely and very helpful. The room was also very quiet which is important to me. The only issues were the strong smell of cleaning detergents in the room and the fact the windows don’t open for fresh air, the smell lingered for the whole day. We put the air con on but that didn’t do much and the room was very hot and the air con seemed inefficient to cool the room, when we got into the room the thermostat said 26.6 degrees and with the air con on for hours it only came down 0.2 of a degree which left the room uncomfortably hot. The weather wasn’t even hot outside. The air con was also very loud so had to be switched off at night which meant the room got too hot and uncomfortable. The temp barely got below 25 even with the air con on all day. We followed the instructions on the device but it was ineffective.
