I usually travel to the area twice a year to visit elderly parents, it has been difficult to do so because of the current pandemic, we did however visit the area to spend a couple of nights away however. I was greeted by Daniel who was the manager on duty, i had spoken to him the day before when he called to make sure everything was still ok with the booking and if we needed any directions or a table booking, i think that this was a lovely touch. when we arrived he was clearly really busy however he took the time to ask about our plans and to ask about our journey he also advised us about some changes in the hotel because of covid. Our key was sanitised before he placed it on the desk and upon arriving in the room it had been made cosy with the curtains pulled half way and the bed side lamps on, the fan was turned on ready for us, hot chocolate on our bed and a note telling us to enjoy our stay. The views were spectacular, certainly not expected.

I usually use other brands but will most definitely be coming back, not only did the hotel and manager meet our expectations, they exceeded them.

Thank you OYO and thank you DANIEL.

We used this hotel as a stop off as we were in Manchester in the evening and visiting Liverpool the following day and this is an ideal distance between the two.
It's a former Premier Inn - most of the trademark purple fittings are still in place!
Everything was clean and there was all we needed for an overnight stay.
Bed was comfy (probably a Premier Inn bed!) if a little short and the bathroom was clean and perfectly adequate.
We booked through Expedia and paid less than £40 which we thought was very fair for a Saturday night.
Parking space is a bit tight, however we did arrive very late at night so expected to have to shoe horn the car in and so it proved!
Ideal hotel next to the lake in a great location right on the east lancs road

I recently stayed in this hotel for work purposes. I was checked in efficiently by a young gentleman, Daniel. He explained about the lockdown and recommended places to get food from as the adjacent restaurant was closed due to lockdown.

I have always received a high level of service when I have stayed at this establishment, however despite the circumstances the service I received was exceptional!

The room was immaculate and the night porter was happy to bring up additional towels for me.

Overall I was happy with my visit and will be staying again.

Thank you, Daniel and to your team! You are a star!

Merry Christmas.

When we arrived at the hotel, about 4pm in the afternoon, we had a long wait for anyone to come to the reception. Finally, when we got to our room we found 3 light bulbs were not working, only 1 mug and no spoons. Ryan on reception fixed the light bulbs and provided an extra mug and spoons. We asked for extra pillows as only 1 pillow each was provided. However, he said that they didn't have any extra pillows and provided us with a couple of towels to fold up under the pillow.
The hotel looks shabby. The paintwork is poor. This could be a lovely hotel in a nice location overlooking the lake but it needs freshening up.
If you want the room serviced, bins emptied, more teabags and milk, you have to ask.

I booked a room for for two people on 28 Jul via the Oyo website for one night for a weekend in the middle of August. We had planned to visit and old friend who lived nearby so the location was excellent. I received an impersonal text and email the afternoon before travelling telling me the room had been cancelled and with no explanation.

I tried to call them to find out what was going on and after 3 attempts I got through to a call handler who could not tell me why the room had been cancelled and he could not get through to the staff at the hotel. He told me I have been refunded but there was no appreciation of the disruption and inconvenience their cancellation caused for my plans.

I was offered another hotel 24 miles away and a happy hour booking price which I declined as it was too far away.

I was then told I was speaking to the reservation service but would be put through to the service desk as I was not satisfied with the response. I was put on hold and then phone disengaged after a short while.

I've stayed here a few times over the years when it was run by Travel Lodge or Premier Inn and it was always a pleasant stay.

It's inconceivable that a hotel will take a booking and your money and then cancel it with next to no notice. I had to spend the night before travelling up desperately trying to find somewhere. Thankfully I found a room in a hotel in Warrington (about 10 miles away) and had a very nice stay but was financially out of pocket having to pay £130 more for the room given the late notice and lack of availability locally.

Having read some of the recent reviews, perhaps the cancellation is a blessing in disguise.

I shan’t be using Oyo ever again and am happy to spread the word to friends and family.

We were trapped in our room. The lock was broken, and we had to call and call the head office and reception before being released. The receptionist told us it had been like that for two weeks. If there was a fire in the room, we could not have escaped. The windows were unbreakable and only opened to give a 10 cm space. We would be dead.

We received an email the day AFTER we arrived saying they would try to accommodate our request of having our two rooms together ON ARRIVAL. We cannot time travel into the past. The email suggested we ask at reception. We already had. They had failed.

We smelt weed on the second night, and there was an argument in the foyer between a member of staff and guests. The guests said the receptionist had said to them “You’re nothing”.

There was no room service while we there: the bins were not emptied. Our bed sheet was torn. This hotel has violet trim, and is a Premier Inn reject.

I booked this hotel for a short 2 night stay to visit family however was contacted a week before I was due to arrive saying the home office had closed the hotel due to needing the hotel facilities for refugees. At the time I thought okay at least I have a bit of time to find another hotel which I did. On the day of me travelling to St Helen's I received a message saying OYO was looking forward to my stay that day, confused I tried to contact OYO and could only get a very unhelpful automated voicemail with instructions to go to their website and message online. After sending a message explaining they had cancelled my booking I carried on with my trip but then received a message saying I would have to pay a cancellation fee for the full amount for 2 nights of £120.10! After sending numerous messages to the online messaging system I only received what seemed to be written by a robot not answering my questions. It was only when I sent a message saying I would take legal action that I was contacted saying they would pay me my full pay back and apologised. I told them their hotel is still being advertised online and to take it down otherwise this would happen to others.
I sent this email 2 weeks ago and can still see they are advertising it online. So this is a warning for anyone looking to book there, I didnt want anyone to lose their money or go through the aggravation that I did.

My partner, child and I were due to spend one night at Lakeside Haydock, St Helens on 31st July and were in the process of travelling to the accommodation when I received a phone call at 13:27 - 1.5 hours from check in time - telling me that they were cancelling my booking. Apparently there had been a leak in the room we were due to use. The girl did not offer me another room, I had to ask what they were going to do. She said the hotel was fully booked and did not offer to help us find alternative accommodation. She mentioned names of other hotels in St Helens but offered no help to try to find us somewhere else to stay.

The girl also told us that the leak had occurred the night before and that OYO had been informed and were supposed to contact us to tell us but hadn’t. She said she had therefore “taken it upon herself” to call us to let us know, as if she was doing us some sort of favour. Waiting until 1.5 hours before we were due to check in was absolutely NOT helpful and left us with no time to find anywhere else to stay. The girl did not seem at all concerned that she was leaving a three year old stranded by cancelling our room. My daughter was extremely upset and in turn this caused a lot of undue stress for me and my partner. We were left frantically calling round a number of hotels and b&bs trying to find somewhere to stay whilst trying to calm our daughter down. To add to this, we were unable to locate another room and so had to drive all the way home - an 8 hour journey. With an upset three year old.

Whether it should have been OYO or the hotel who informed us was not my concern but SOMEONE should have and should have done so far sooner than they did. I am absolutely disgusted that they could think it acceptable to put us in that situation with a small child involved.

I wrote to their customer service dept demanding an explanation for this appalling service and asking to be compensated for the stress and unexpected 8 hour drive we had to endure because of this hotel as it was utterly unacceptable but so far they have just fobbed me off with feeble lines about “striving to serve me better” instead of taking responsibility for the actual issue.

I have found out that they are notorious for cancelling people’s bookings at the last minute so I’d strongly advise people to avoid using this chain as you’ll just be left high and dry.

To top it off, we actually stayed in this hotel the week before for a one night stopover stay and found it to be in real need of some paint and maintenance plus the kettle was covered in dust. We were willing to overlook these minor issues as it was only a short stay but I’m pointing them out now because I’m so angry.

We have stayed in this particular hotel for years when visiting family. It was a Travel Lodge, always lovely and clean With professional and friendly staff. This time however was a totally different experience! Now owned by OYO, it is an absolute dive of a hotel. It was old, shabby, smelled stale and to cap it all off was a hotel for the homeless. Now I’m all for helping the homeless, but this should be advertised on the web site when looking at this particular hotel, but it wasn’t. The receptionist did at no time adhere to Covid rules, in fact he told us not to bother with our masks.

The rooms clearly hadn’t been updated since transferring from Travel Lodge to OYO, infact the room we where in looked like it had had the door kicked in as the chain was missing and the wooden frame was damaged and no attempt had been made to fix it. My sister asked for an iron and ironing board and was told by the receptionist that he would see if he could find one from the long term residents, when she asked what he meant by that he explained about the homeless people living there, the first time this was mentioned.

Late in to the night they congregated outside the entrance to the hotel smoking and drinking and being loud. We felt very intimidated and very angry that we had been put in this position. Surely this should have been mentioned on the website so that we could have chosen not to stay there.

My advice is to definitely not stay here, an absolute disgrace.

I have recently stayed here and I couldn't recommend it enough! Everywhere is very clean and staff are so friendly. The manager, Daniel was so helpful and attentive, nothing I needed was too much trouble. Was great to see all social distance measures in place and hand gel available at reception.
