Not recommended. The place was very dirty (mirrors, kitchen, ...) and partly desolate (broken kitchen shelf, loose stairs in front of the house, etc.). If you stay here at least take your time and take pictures of everything. Otherwise the host may claim that it was you who caused the damage.

Stayed here with my wife and 2 children for a few days skiing before Xmas. A great chalet as a base to ski the Hochkoenigin ski area. Just a few minutes walk to the lifts. Comfortable chalet, good size rooms and bathrooms. Very clean and tidy. Huge thanks to Dimitri, Nikki and Kyle who were so helpful and couldn’t do enough for us when serving breakfast and dinner - and in fact at any point! Really made us feel welcome. Hoping to return next year 😉

A real home from home in Maria Alm - we had a fantastic week in Chalet Sonne with Select. Nothing was too much for the Select from booking with Michelle and Martyn to a warm welcome from Paul, Seb, Tamar and Golan. A lovely chalet close to the slopes, plenty of snow and lovely food each day. The best family ski holiday and plenty of fun for adults and our teenage children. Thank you Select for all you have done for us! We will hope to be back again…

Chalet Sonne is a traditional comfortable chalet perfect for a small group. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. We had a really relaxing time. The new bubble at Natrun makes it easy to get onto the mountain and is a short walk from the chalet so brilliant for getting the muscles going. Select made booking very easy and sorted the airport transfers at a reasonable cost. The whole trip ran very smoothly.

We’ve just come back from a fabulous week at Chalet Sonne in Maria Alm. The chalet is very well situated just a few minutes walk from the lift and village. There are lockers at the lift where skis and boots can be stored overnight. It was our first visit to the area and the Hochkönig ski area offers plenty of skiing for beginners and experienced skiers alike. We’ll be back!

We have just returned from a fabulous week being brilliantly looked after by the very lovely Emily in Chalet Sonne. Emily made us feel so at home and was always around to answer any questions, get information for us, make bookings, and she makes great scrambled eggs. The chalet is very homely, an easy 5 minute walk to the closest ski lift where lockers can be hired. The chalet was always lovely and warm, very clean and the food was so great, it took all day to ski it off! Thank you for looking after us 😊

Chalet Sonne is an absolute gem of a Chalet in a great location only 1 hour from Salzburg Airport, and ideally situated within Maria Alm, being approximately 5-7 minutes’ walk from the Natrun lift. With the new Gondola linking across to the Arberg this has significantly enhanced the skiing access. This is made even easier by the fact that you can store your ski equipment at the bottom of the Natrun lift in lockers which are cheap to hire. Maria Alm, the Hochonig and the wider Ski Amade area is an expansive and truly beautiful understated resort, with a “chocolate box” charm and local Austrian’s who are genuinely warm and welcoming towards you despite Brexit!!!! Chalet Sonne itself is a typical Austrian style Chalet, homely, welcoming and with great facilities, featuring a smart conservatory style dining area with stunning views overlooking the cross country skiing track, well equipped kitchen, small sauna plus a games room. The living area is very comfy and relaxing for the post skiing “de-brief” and afternoon tea. Finally the bedrooms are very spacious all with private bathrooms (except the ground floor bedroom) there well equipped and the bedroom configuration is ideal for families and couples. Similar to many other folks I often refer to “review sites” prior to booking holidays; consequently I try to give honest and balanced reviews. In that vein Chalet Sonne is not a “top end” luxurious chalet (Try Select Chalets other property in Maria Alm “Chalet Panorama” if that’s the type of accommodation you require as Panorama is truly stunning) However in terms of value for money “Sonne” ranks up there with the best of them and that includes Chalets run by Crystal, Neilson etc. I have visited Maria Alm on 7 occasions and apart from being treated to a 5* hotel and spa facility this is without doubt the best accommodation we’ve stayed in. Chalet Sonne is not perfect and as mentioned I like to offer balanced reviews and there are a few areas that I feel would improve the accommodation even further. It would benefit from a decent ski boot/drying room, the TV was a minor issue, but was virtually inoperative although the DVD worked. We all socialised, chatted & played games etc, however a couple of people within our party would have occasionally utilised it. Finally although somewhat understandable given the record levels of snowfall, the steps leading up to the Chalet were a tadge hazardous and should have been cleared as they were at times “sheet ice” and quite dangerous when trying to negotiate with skiing gear/boots. In fairness if these are the only things to improve on it can’t be too bad really. So what’s the difference from other Chalets? Well quite simply it was the staff; Emily who principally runs the chalet could not have been more welcoming and accommodating. She worked very diligently to ensure everything was perfect; just one example is that in conjunction with our chef Ollie (who again was so co-operative and friendly) they adjusted the nightly menus to suit all our needs. She was also the egg making champion!!! I guess the true test comes when you ask for extra help beyond the norm. Two examples here, one was Emily’s assistance to sort out our return Ryanair boarding passes. (Could Ryanair be anymore awkward???) Additionally and unfortunately one of our group had to return home due to personal circumstances mid-week. Between Emily and Seb (Chalet Manager) they managed to arrange a very short notice transfer to Salzburg if required and gave us so much advice regarding the easiest way for him to return home. I guess for this pragmatic “Northern Soul” I expect to be treated as I would treat others in difficult circumstances and they certainly “stepped up to the mark”. The above are just a few examples and we met the whole team socially at the Eder bar and also on a visit to Chalet Panorama, they were genuinely friendly and interested to get to know us. Seb joined us for a mornings social skiing and with his knowledge simply enhanced our skiing experience even further (sorry I was so rubbish off-piste!!!) To summarise; Chalet Sonne, the skiing conditions, après ski, beautiful village, welcoming people and a distinctly dodgy sledging experience, made for a simply fantastic skiing holiday, enhanced still further by Emily, Ollie & Seb. I would highly recommend the chalet and indeed Select Chalets as a company as there admin staff (Michelle) were again so helpful and flexible during the booking process. I guess the only problem now is that it’s 51 weeks of “sulking” before the possibility of returning!! Seriously thanks to all for a wonderful experience.…

Visited Chalet Sonne for New Year 2018/19. Had a fabulous time. Chalet was faultless and luxurious. Host and staff were amazing. My family will remember that holiday for a lifetime not just my boys learning to ski but the warm welcome we received. Nothing was too much trouble.

This was our first trip to Maria Alm and to Chalet Sonne.....to say we landed on our feet would be an understatement! What a gem of a place to stay. Chalet Sonne is located on the flat, just a few minutes walk from the village centre, where there are plenty of lovely restaurants, cafes and bars. Very handy for the ski lifts on Natrun and there are views to the popular Aberg pistes which is easily accessible via the regular ski-bus. The bedrooms were a good size and impeccably well looked after. The staff were fantastic, really helpful and knowledgeable and happy to help in whatever way they could with transfers, advice about the area, ski hire etc. In short, I would definitely recommend staying here and hope to return soon.

Just returned from a fantastic week's skiing holiday .... Chalet Sonne is perfectly situated close to Maria Alm town centre - just a short walk from the cracking slopes and charming friendly town, lovely places to eat, shop and walk in your spare time. The chalet is really comfortable - warm and spacious and great views everywhere. The friendly team made us feel welcome and at home and were helpful with advice about the local area - thank you everyone for a great family holiday, our first skiing trip and definitely not our last.
