Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We come here every year, twice if we have the oppurtunity. Krofatter and Kromutter (the couple who owns it) are the most loveable and kind people always ready to help and guide. The food is good old danish food just like grandma used to make it and we always enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant. The hotel is located on beautiful Djursland with short drives to some of the best zoo's and we always combine a zoo trip with one of our visits.

This charming hotel is conveniently located in the beautiful Djursland countryside, not really far from anything! You are close to the beach and not far from either Ebeltoft or Grenaa. We were in the area to help celebrate my cousin Venner's birthday. It was nice to be back! Gjerrild Kro and Hotel is a very well run facility, the staff are very friendly and efficient. The rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped. We stayed in the "room wing", a separate building set apart from the main inn. Our room had a kitchen, this would make it ideal for a longer stay. Our stay included a more than ample breakfast, served buffet style. I say ample, the Danish breakfast always offers you more delicious choses than you can eat. A nice dilemma. The hotel, as well as offering accommodation for the weary, in the true spirit of "KRO" hospitality, also offers the traveller or guest, a fine dining experience. What is a Kro? The concept of a Kro originates back to the 13th century. King Erik Klipping decreed that to alleviate the problem of finding rest and comfort for the weary traveller, at every mile there should be an inn that provided food, drink and a place to rest. There you go, Gjerrild Kro and Hotel, you do just that. Congratulations! There is no question in our minds we will be back, and we will seek to have a longer stay. This should not be a problem. PS There is good wifi and there is ample parking.

The staff at this Kro were extremely welcoming and friendly, creating a lovely first impression. We were only staying one night but our room, while fairly basic, had everything we needed and french windows opening to a nice view. Breakfast was excellent and very substantial and the total cost was extremely reasonable.

I always like to get out into the country in Denmark and this place was perfect. It was a trip back in time to the old inns of the past, where Gammel Dansk and other "medicinal bitters" are on the breakfast table. Just to walk/drive around the town warmed my heart. It is near Grenaa, Denmark.

Gjerrild is a very quiet tiny little village, but a good base to visit the surrounding area. This hotel is a "Kro", danish for a rural tavern/inn style B&B with generally a good restaurant. Gjerrild Kro is no exception. The clean and basic, but quite frankly a bit outdated, rooms are situated in a motel-like annex with a little patio at the back, overlooking a big lawn. You can sit at the front too, every room has 2 chairs and a small table there, but then basically you sit between the cars at the parking lot. Very nice and friendly staff. Breakfast basic but very good. The restaurant offered outstanding quality.
