This hotel is over two hundred years old and any number of famous people have stayed here over the centuries. Many of them are recorded in pictures on the walls (it’s worth wandering round to study them) and a life-sized statue of Brahms (uncannily colored blue) greets you at the entrance. One of the great advantages here is the central location. The hotel is right next to the Schlossgarten and the Englischer Garten and both make a beautiful place for a stroll. It’s also very near the theatre, the museums and the town centre, all within easy walking distance. Picturesque is generally not associated with comfort and practicality, so don’t expect your room to be as convenient as that in a more modern hotel. But our room, at the back, if a bit stuffy, was pleasant enough and really quiet, if you discount the rushing waters of the river at the rear of the hotel; the mattress was rather too soft for me, but that’s just my personal preference. The staff were on the whole very friendly, the breakfast, at extra cost, was very good. (The earlier criticisms about the hotel breakfast on Trip Advisor no longer apply.) There is free wi-fi and free parking available, a lift, a cafe (excellent) and a restaurant (which we didn’t try). Recommended, especially if you like to savour a hotel with an historic aura. …
The hotel is in a good position, within easy walking distance of the theatre (Meiningen’s main attraction), and quite close to the Schloss and museums including the Theatre Museum. It has an impressive history, which has left visible traces; rooms are spacious and comfortable; staff are courteous and helpful. The restaurant is good, but the menu is limited late in the evening (i.e. after the performance). Private parking is available, but the route from carpark to the hotel is a bit awkward. Definitely to be recommended if you are there for the theatre
Very nice hotel which combine modernity with tradition. Nice rooms in really romantic manner, exactly enough space for couple. Even being single business traveler this time, hotel has its own nice old fashioned and romantic atmosphere.
I have stayed here before, so thought I should write a review this time! Stayed for one night on this occasion with two work colleagues - we had a business meeting the next day. Rooms are well-equipped, clean and comfortable with free WiFi access. The hotel is on a main street, but the night's sleep was wonderfully peaceful. Breakfast buffet is self-service and well-stocked. There is some parking available at the rear of the hotel. If full, I think you can park on the street - just check first!
This hotel is just about centrally located in Meinengen. If you visit during the time of the Christmas markets, it is approx. a 10 minute walk to the market itself. It is an historic hotel and every room is different. We were in an incredibly grand former postmaster's room. I believe you could have fit at least 2 king sized beds in the room. The bed was comfortable. We always have to sleep with a window open in the winter because the hotels are always so warm and this hotel wasn't an exception. I have 2 minor complaints. The first is that the lighting in the room was extremely dim. The second is that a large area rug would have made the room more comfortable. The floor boards are original and squeak loudly which can't be helped. It is loud enough to wake you up when your husband, for example, gets up in the middle of the night to walk to the bathroom. …
