Antico Borgo Poggiarello We stayed for a week in late September. The pool was open and the sun shined. The location is about 1.5 miles off the main road south of Colle di val d’Elsa towards Montrigioni. Some would call it remote, we called it wonderful. The ‘old’ village, each house converted into high end individual apartments, some with a terrace and all with spectacular views over the Elsa River valley towards San Gimignano and Casole, is truly wonderful especially at dusk where you can watch the sunset while drinking the local Sangiovese wine from vineyards which surround the estate. Despite being converted more than 20 years back the place is still fresh and sharp. The apartment fittings were well maintained and clean and everything worked…more than I can say for some place we have stayed in. Although you can cook in your apartment, and we did for a couple of nights, the on site restaurant serves high end typical Tuscan food and wine…and less expensive than many local restaurants. We asked for Cinghiale-Wild Boar…which Roberto the co-owner and chef managed to source and which Paolo also a co-owner served with chat in Italian, English and German. We can’t wait to make a return trip…can’t give a better recommendation than that !!

This place is a magic kingdom. Set high on a hill in Tuscany looking towards San Gimignano in one direction and Casole di Val d'Elsa in another. It's an old village that has been renovated in the last 20 years to provide apartments which are beautifully appointed. They also have kitchen facilities but if you're not wanting to cook there is a chef, Roberto, on site if you book for the restaurant. There is also a swimming pool. Roberto, Paolo and their lovely wives run this place with Italian charm and one is made to feel so welcome. I would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you guys for a wonderful few days

If you are looking for a calm and relaxing location, Antico Borgo Poggiarello is the perfect place, where Roberto and family are great hosts and your guarantee for authentic Tuscan experience. Placed in the middle of the hills, with a great view on the valley, you can enjoy great hospitality, well maintained apartments, surroundings and the huge pool. As a great surprise, Roberto will serve you a super tasty and well composed daily menu - "under the stars, overlooking the valley". Antico Borgo Poggiarello is a great place to relax, enjoy and reload ***** 😎

We stayed here for two nights as part of our Tuscan road-trip. We had spent 10 days touring a lot of Tuscany so wanted to relax. Couldn’t have found a better place, surrounded my Chianti hills. Family run business, such good service. Breakfast and dinner was amazing, all local and fresh ingredients, made/cooked to perfection. Ate outside watching sunset every night. As a special I asked Roberto for large steak, which he was very happy to arrange, which was so good. Lots of cool water, and oh yes lots of local wines and beers. Good large swimming pool, with plenty of sun beds. No lunch provided, so bring some with you. Nearest shops are 20 mins away by car. Large fridge freezer. There are cooking facilities….not that we used them. 😀 Would definitely go again and highly recommend. Thank you Grace, Elaine, Roberto and Paulo for making our stay special, and of course to Zac the little dog. Phil and Jane.

You should be aware that there is a long narrow upward twisty wooded (mostly) single track road to get to this place but once you do it's a beautiful setting. What a sunset and 360 degree view! The welcome was efficient. The one bedroom apartment with an sofa bed in the lounge would have been fine for 2 adults and 2 kids but we were 4 adults so it was a little tricky to share a bathroom accessed by the bedroom. Perhaps other accommodations on site are not configured like this? Very relaxing with accommodation in ancient buildings scattered over the hill. A nice big (bit cold!) pool at the top of the hill. A good breakfast with variety. As it is so remote we decided to eat at the restaurant both nights of our stay (didn't fancy negotiating the hill in the dark!). The food was very nice on both occasions and pleasantly served by the two ladies. Good idea to bring provisions with you when you come, as the accommodation has a kitchen area (and bring loo roll too). We were disappointed that the Roman Bath wasn't open - this was advertised at the time of booking and was something that attracted us - but apparently it was too hot. If you want peace an serenity and to get away from it all - this is definitely the place for you.

Dear guest, thank you for your preference, we are pleased that your stay was satisfactory. we are equally light that you enjoyed our restaurant! I allow myself to make only small details: our road is completely paved up to the entrance, our structure is on a hill. The type of apartment you have chosen is the one you described, namely a double bedroom, large living room with double sofa bed, kitchen and bathroom. We have apartments with 2 or even 3 bedrooms, but on this we do not enter into the merits as you have chosen the type and it is well described in detail on our website. The Roman bath, also this is written in detail that in the months of July and August it is not in operation, due to the high temperatures. It is certainly not for this reason that thousands of customers choose to stay at Antico Borgo Poggiarello. We hope to see you soon for a new experience. Kind regards, Roberto

Our fourth stay at Antico Borgo has just come to an end. As always we were made to feel very welcome by the Poggiarello family. We enjoyed al fresco dinners prepared by Paolo and Grazia's homemade cakes (in particular frutti di bosco) were all delicious. Our apartment was clean and well equipped and a short walk to the pool, which we enjoyed using. We are looking forward to going back there next year and to see everybody again. Grazie mille e ci vediamo l'anno prossimo! Rebecca, Paolo, Marco & Luca Monti

From the moment we arrived at Poggiarello we were made to feel part of the family. Grazia, Paolo and the rest of the family were generous and helpful in accommodating our needs and recommending places to visit and making our stay enjoyable. The food in the evening was superb, good size portions over 4 courses and good choice of beer and wines to accompany the excellent food. The pool was of a good size and both the children and adults enjoyed the Tuscan sunshine. We will definitely be returning to Poggiarello at some point in the distant future. My wife and I traveled to Tuscany this summer with our little pet, we spent time in Poggiarello, and I can't describe enough how wonderful experience that has been. Food was fantastic, and you definitely won't stay hungry there. We traveled there in July and had luck that weather was really nice so we could enjoy it completely. Service was very helpful and polite. I recommend Antico Borgo Poggiarello to everyone who wants a peaceful rest in Tuscany.

Unless you have very young children, don't go in July and August - as this property is overrun with them. Obviously it is school holidays and but this really is a family destination and there were very many of them, including toddlers and the owners own. So if you are adults only or with older teenagers, you will find the large pleasant pool impossible to use or relax alongside in the sun loungers as it is a kindergarden! Probably ok in low season however. Rock hard mattresses, passed off as orthopaedic - although on request, after 2 days of finding it impossible to sleep and with a stiff back, ask and they will put a second mattress on top of the first. This makes it better but still not up to the quality of a 'hotel bed' No aircon in the lounge or kitchen - so although there is a sofa bed (for 2 adults), it is very hot in summer, and you will find it difficult to sleep, as did our daughter. And it makes no difference whether the small windows are left open or shut. Very basic kitchen, no oven, no grill, no microwave, no kettle, no toaster - maybe it helps to tempt you to use the on site restaurant? - 4 course meal for 31e - or I am being a cynic!? Property is also up a 2 mile single track very steep and winding track. If you want evening entertainment in a local village, it is a 30 minute trip in the car, So the property is very isolated - if you want that, then its good for you. And it does make for a captive market for the on site catering. Apart from that, good views of the countryside and the pool is good as long as you can enjoy it in relative peace.

Dear Mr. James thank for choosing us and thanks for your detailed review....but something you wrote doesn't means reality! You made you reservation in August and in our information about our property is mentioned is a place for families and of course for children too. You had to expect in August you could find a situation as you found! About your complaints we solved all and I mean all your request in the same day you asked! Anyway in our property families and children will be always welcome. The air conditioning is enough for each apartment..also in yours, was pretty important if you closed the windows for having a better result as other guest done. Maybe for your particular character was better to found out a single a private villa in the middle of nowhere for enjoying your prefect holiday. We wish all the best... Kind regards, Roberto

The place is located on the hills of Tuscany. Family business, so they try to be very familial with guests. Place was very clean, well equipped, everything you need can be find in the apartment. Everybody smile :), especially Grazia !!! The pool is great, well positioned on the top of the hill, surrounded by trees, so you can choose to stay or not in the sun. For sorry, the closing hour is 20.00 ... 1-2 hour more can be really appreciated by kids. The food was exciting(special thanks for it to chef Roberto). Kids can enjoy pasta or pizza as they want :) The diners on the terrace, the stunning view of tuscan hills, sunsets, the vine selections... this are just the bonus of the place. As position, very close to Siena, San Gimignano, Chianti, Montepulciano, etc. I can only recommend this place for everyone who wants to see the real beauty of Tuscany !!!
