Dom Pedro Vilamoura is commended for its prime location near the marina and beach, as well as its high standards of cleanliness. Guests have called out the attentive and friendly staff, and the variety of breakfast options offered. However, some travelers advise that the rooms, while clean, suffer from outdated decor and insufficient air conditioning, detracting from overall comfort. The hotel's atmosphere is described as lively, yet the presence of loud music and groups sometimes disrupts the tranquility. Moreover, the amenities and facilities are seen as in need of an update to enhance the hotel's value.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, but felt it was more suitable for a shorter holiday revolving around golf than it was for couples having a couple of weeks in the sun.
Our flight got us to the hotel before the 2.00pm check in, and there was no way we were going to get access to our room before that time. We were impressed with the reception and ground floor amenities and could clearly see that the 4* boxes were being ticked downstairs. When we finally checked in to our room I confess we were a little disappointed. Although the room was spacious, clean and had a good view we were very conscious that it was not a quiet room. We had noise from the lifts (constant pinging), noise from guests arriving back to their rooms at 2.00am, noise from the outside entertainment area (until 11.00pm most nights) , noise from planes taking off from the airport (from 6.00 am onwards) and noise from the poolside guests who could be rather raucous at times. There is some disturbance during the day from the nearby building site, but that may not last much longer.
The bed was large and comfortable. The pillows were newish and supportive. A coffee machine in the room had absolutely no information about how to use it. We never switched it on. There is a fridge in the room - we had to empty it to be able to fit our milk and water inside. One of the cupboards was filled with blankets and spare bedding, and was thus unusable by us. There are shelf units in the wardrobe rather than drawers
The bathroom was large, but surprisingly lacking in places to store or hang toiletries. A small shelf under the sink, or more hooks would make a huge difference. The roof of the bathroom is a series of rusty metal panels which make quite a noise when the door is opened and closed. Especially in the middle of the night!
Whilst we were in Vilamoura there were reports in the local press that the Dom Pedro hotels had been sold and some upgrades were planned by the new owners. I would say that they are well overdue. There are insufficient electrical plugs in the room, and the ones that do exist are badly positioned. The lighting on the balcony is uncontrollable from the room, and is on all night whether you want it or not. There is no kettle. There is no iron or ironing board - nor even one available on request. These are the sorts of facilities I would expect from a 4* hotel.
My tips if you are thinking of booking this hotel:
1. Take a travel kettle
2. Take an extension lead.
3. Take your own teabags (or be charged a euro each) Take your own cafetiere and coffee or pay a euro for each coffee pod.

We liked Vilamoura and would think about returning. I'm not so sure we would return to this particular hotel.

We have just returned from a week in the Dom Pedro and we weren't disappointed. We chose this hotel because of its location to the excellent Marina, which has everything from quick snacks to fine dining.
First, the hotel; We arrived at the hotel at 11am, (albeit rather tired and sweaty after being on the go since 4am), we were then told that our check in wasn't until 2pm!... so we had three hours to kill whilst our room was getting prepared. We were told we could change in the Baggage Room while we waited, we declined their offer, we do have some pride! 'This problem needs to be addressed Dom Pedro'.
We eventually got our room on the 6th floor and our first impressions were how clean and comfortable our room was. Complimentary gifts of water and biscuits were on the side, a pod coffee making machine, ( which is chargeable ), but no kettle for tea drinkers. Why not Dom Pedro? There is a small fridge which was used as a Mini Bar which we emptied and used the fridge for our own wine, beer and milk, which we bought in the well stocked but busy SPAR over the road. A bit of advice; Take a multi-plug adaptor as there was only one socket.
The bathroom was a bit dated with a shower in the bath, but non the less it was cleaned daily, as was the room.
Breakfast was excellent, which was served between 7.30-10, again, something for everyone, we were only B&B because we wanted to eat out at the Marina, so we can't comment further on the restaurant, which itself was very clean.
There was plenty of sunbeds to go round, and as an early riser I saw nobody putting their towels to claim the best sunbeds. The metal framed sunbeds do get rather hot in the sun, so be careful! There was no sunbed umbrellas only the permanent ones on the grass, or the shelter under the trees, also there were no tables to put drinks on by the sunbeds. Kids need to be covered up as it does get very hot.
The Marina is the entertainment hub in Vilamoura, day and night, and there's food for even the fussiest of diners. We found an excellent Irish bar called 'Biddy Janes', ( Half way round the Marina and up a flight of steps past the 1st Irish bar on the corner, there are a few Irish bars at the Marina! ), for a nice quiet Guinness and good craic. Next door to Biddy Janes is an Italian restaurant called Rui's, £4£ has to be the best VFM restaurant there, excellent food and service, and immaculately clean, 10/10 in our opinion.
Overall our stay was very good and would definitely recommend it.

A delightful stay at this hotel! When we checked in the receptionist could not have been more helpful. We arrived around 12.00,our room was ready, and the young man took the time to explain everything including where to have dinner in the evening if we did not wish to eat in the hotel. The room was spotless, the bathroom also, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast(from 7-10am) had a vast selection of items, and the lounge had entertainment in the evening. We did not eat in the hotel in the evening so can't comment on that. It is no more than a ten minute walk to the marina where the is a vast array of restaurants, and there are restaurants around the hotel,we enjoyed Ferrara's on a couple of occasions.

Don’t book this hotel based on their own photographs, the hotel is tired especially the rooms and around the pool area. Just weed between the paving stones, it would make such a difference. The sun beds have seen better days too. The housekeeper that cleaned our room and a couple of porters were the only genuinely nice people we met, generally the staff were miserable and unhelpful. We were in what they referred to as one of their best rooms, I didn’t realise we’d be sharing it with a colony of ants. We complained to the reception manager ( a female), who said they’ve never had a complaint about ants before; we were on the 7th floor! That comment was surprising as the housekeeper that came came to look had insect spray on her trolley, and the man who was checking the mini bar lifted a floor board to look underneath! We were offered a deep clean or a change of room, but we opted for the deep clean as we’d sort of unpacked. When I say sort of unpacked, we just had a wardrobe and a couple of shelves, so we lived out of out of our suitcases, which were on the floor and just hung dresses etc. In the wardrobe. I just hope we haven’t brought any tiny friends back with us. Instead of apologising for our ant problem, the staff that dealt with our grievance were defensive.

Upon arrival at 11am as a package so no choice on timing we were told our room was ready but needed inspecting and they'd give us a ring. I asked how long and got shrugged shoulders and a half an hour to an hour but we are very busy. After waiting an hour we gave up and went into town in 23 degree heat wearing our winter UK Clothes. By 5.30pm and sweltering still no call so went back and the room had been ready for ages they just didn't bother picking up the phone so we pretty much lost the first day of our holiday hiding in the shade in jumpers.
When we got to the room it smelt musty and the bathroom stunk of sewage we left the patio doors open and thankfully after 24hrs it cleared. The rooms are dated although clean and the balconies were like sitting on a multistorey carpark.
Breakfast was always lukewarm at best and we gave up after 2 days.
The staff ranged from helpful and some were pleasant usually the serving and cleaning staff as opposed to those in the higher public facing roles who were miserable and often sharp. The rooms were cleaned by pleasant maids daily who always did a good job.
Be aware also there's no kettle in the room only coffee machines and you are charged for each pod you use. I don't like pod coffee and literally didn't have an option for a brew in the morning. There was tea ironically left in the room but no way of using it.
I rarely ever leave a bad review but I really think if people are expecting 4 star they should be aware. I've stayed in better 2 star family run.
It was our first visit to the Algarve and sadly I can say it will definitely be our last. The hotel combined with some horrendous meals out in overpriced restaurants around the Marina one even serving us lasagne frozen in the middle and lamb chops so underseared we ended up with a face full of blood was enough to know Vilamoura definitely isn't the place for us.
Incase anyone is wondering we aren't posh travellers and usually say if the beds comfortable and the shower is hot it's enough.

We enjoyed our stay at the Dom Pedro very much

Arrival: Check in was from 2pm and Diogo gave us a great room number 602 lovely views.

Room: very comfy beds, spacious balcony with chairs and a bathroom with nice toiletries. Top tip: book direct and become a dom pedro member to get free water and coffee pods for your stay- otherwise it is one euro per coffee. No milk or kettle provided.

Pool/ Garden: very nice and quiet because all the golfers are out in the day. Towel card system, don't lost it otherwise you pay 25 euro!! Didn't use spa because too hot outside anyway.

Breakfast: good selection of cooked and continental. Coffee machines are temperamental and you can't really get a cup of tea because the urn on the nespresso machine is faulty. I would have liked to have seen more traditional foods but I suppose for the average Brit you just want eggs bacon and some coffee.

Dinner: great value in the restaurant. Again, become a member to get 10% off in ALL bars and restaurants, we saved a lot during our stay.

Vilamoura itself has become popular with stag dos and hen dos which we did well to avoid and this hotel luckily doesn't attract the main bulk of them....

Overall the hotel is dated, I think it was one of the first to be built in Vilamoura so there are natural signs of ageing but it is still a great hotel.

We found the hotel to be rather dated. The bathroom, especially needed a bit of an upgrade. The toilet seat was wobbly and the placement of loo roll etc was not well thought out. The air con was noisy but did the job. Lovely, comfortable bed but two singles zipped together rather than a double. My husband and I like to be close not miles apart.
We arrived late on our first day due to flight delays and were not offered a sandwich or a drink as we had missed dinner. (our daughter who stayed in a different hotel was offered room service as she had paid for and missed dinner.)
We stayed half board and found the food to be lacking in choice. More or less the same every night. I enjoy salads and fish so was happy enough. My husband is not a fish eater so he had more problems finding foods to suit. Had our grandson been with us there was nothing that he would have eaten. No nuggets or chips etc. in fairness, there weren’t really any young children staying so maybe they offer this type of fare if there are. Breakfast was good (except for the small, salty sausages) with plenty of choice. Fruit, cheeses, meats, breads etc plus eggs, bacon, beans etc.
The staff, with the exception of one or two, were lovely and worked hard. The restaurant staff were attentive and helpful. The only issue we found was that you couldn’t take your eyes off your plate or it was lifted. We found this funny but some people found this annoying.
Plenty of sun beds around the pool and a terrace with a bar and snack bar which was nice. It would have been good to have a quiet area with seating away from the bar area as it tended to attract the Brits abroad (drinking and shouting all day). Vilamoura is a great resort and the Portuguese people were friendly and helpful.
This was my second visit and would return but to a different hotel.

The staff at Dom Pedro, Vilamoura are truly amazing people who take great pride in making your experience enjoyable. The location of the hotel is perfect. Near the beach but not on top of it, a short stroll to the marina with its many restaurants and bars, and just across the road from a Spar supermarket. The rooms are spacious, the beds soooooo comfortable and the bathrooms include shampoo and a few toiletries. The pool area is well protected from the sea breeze by a hedge and the massive lawns and gardens are well kept. There is an abundance of sun beds which can be used around the pool or moved into shaded areas if preferred. At breakfast there is something for everyone and individual needs such as non-dairy milk are catered for on request, nothing is too much trouble. Well done Dom Pedro you are a great example to the hospitality industry.

Bruno on reception was very welcoming and as our room wasn't ready yet took our cases and directed us to the restaurant for lunch and said room would be ready after we were finished. The room was a decent size with great air conditioning, great wifi and good view. Bathroom had a bidet and shower over a small bath. Nice to have a chair in the room as I dont like sitting on the bed. TV only had news channels. Only one plug sockets in room which wasn't great. Took a kettle and teabags with us and bought fresh milk but the fridge in the room was full of mini bar items that we didnt want but didnt dare take out in case when the room was checked each day they might charge for them. This meant no room to keep drinks in and struggled to get a carton of milk in. Ended up balancing things. Bed was really comfy and amazing pillows.
Didnt like the restaurant and ate out a few times. Staff were mainly miserable with the exception of the lady cooking, an older lady waiting on and Eduardo who was really good. The food was good quality but not much choice especially if you dont eat fish so some days struggled to find things to eat. Had to wait ages to get wine or soft drinks with the meal and you often got one glass and that was it even though all inclusive. Ended up fetching drinks from the bar one night when a particular waitress just ignored us then she came over when she saw me bring them in and wrote them on the card at the table! We were also given horrible tiny glasses for the wine when others were given nice wine glasses.
Sunbeds were comfy and the pool was ok but freezing cold. Not cleaned for a few days and kids pool had leaves and rubbish floating in it as well as seagulls sat on the water as it was such cold water people weren't using it. Easy to get a sunbed any time you wanted as most people out golfing. Unfortunately there were a lot of golfers who were spoiling it for others. Really loud, often drunk, getting bottles from the shop and drinking from glass bottles in the pool. They were asked to get out but allowed to carry on with glass bottles on the side. One kept making a noise with a motor hooter like clowns have and they played loud music round the pool. Could take ages getting the lift as so many golf parties leaving at same time and lift full of their stuff. Drinks were good quality from the bar especially the hot drinks. Entertainment was on but hit and miss. Expensive for what we got.

Very friendly staff but there is only so much they can do…
Facilities are quite run down and dated (bedroom mildew, very dated towels, antique bedsheets and pillows.. you will need your Claritin).

The location is good but the room rat s are way too pricey for what you are getting. The AC does not work well, the garden/pool area is skimpy with loud music, the cliente is… (ok I admit i am a snob), guests in the lobby area are a bit too relaxed..
The renovation scheduled for next year will go a very long way but so far you might as well spend a few hundred more and have real 4/5star service.
