Detailed Reviews
Having last visited Butlins 30 years ago ( when the accommodation was pretty dire but we were young adults with a group of friends and had fun anyway!) it was with some trepidation that we booked last October half term when we were unable to fly abroad due to illness, with our 5 year old grandson and my elderly mother.
We booked a ground floor, 3 bedroom gold apartment and were impressed - and we are used to cruise holidays and 4 star hotel holidays around the world.
The apartment was spacious and had a kitchen area which was well stocked and had a
dishwasher etc. The bathroom was large and had a great walk in shower.
The lounge area was comfortable with leather settees and had patio doors opening to a grassy area, which our grandson loved.
Daily housekeeping was great and meant our beds were made, bins emptied and clean towels supplied etc.
There was so much for the grandson to do during the day and the evening shows were of a high standard - the feature acts and the butlins singers and dancers were all fabulous.
So, having enjoyed it so much last October, and still unable to fly abroad, we did it all again this February
Half term
We had another 3 bed good apartment, with the only criticism being that the electric hob had seen better days .
It worked fine but looked shabby and rusty - come on butlins, for the price you pay for a good apartment, this aspect could be bettered.
Hoping to be able to fly abroad again soon but I suspect my grandson will want to return to butlins!

We had our original break moved due to COVID-19, we lost our original dining plan on our July break because of Butlins cutting down on capacity of the park and me not being able to get through to confirm our booking quickly enough.
When we arrived we found that we had been moved from our booked new style silver apartment to a fairground apartment (we all loved the wavy mirrors in it). It was really clean, they’re not providing tea, coffee etc at the moment, however, they are still providing a cleaning pack (w/up liquid, tea towel etc), whole pack of loo rolls and towels.
The show booking app wasn’t working very well at all when we were there 2 weeks ago, hopefully it’s improved now, we managed to get a couple of outdoor shows booked (Paul Zerdin who is amazing and Rak-Su who weren’t so!) and we saw the circus, the acts were amazing although we were sat round the side so couldn’t hear what they were saying. This was all we managed to see, everything else unfortunately had been fully booked.
Swimming pool was great, we did manage to book that through the app before we went and it’s so much better when you have to book a slot. The lifeguards were all amazing, giving my kids tips on how to swim better, they were all really friendly and the pool area and changing rooms were immaculate.
We had the premium dining for the first time this year and we thought it was brilliant, we won’t go back to food court now, they made sure everyone distanced safely and were wearing masks when not at their table. The food choice was great and the host Glyn in the Deck restaurant is fantastic, always happy and friendly, we preferred this restaurant over the Yacht Club (where we felt rushed with them clearing our table while we were still eating).
The theme park was really well managed with them cleaning the rides after each ride, waltzers were shut the whole time we were there but everything else was open.
The best arcade is the one by the rides, the staff are great, however, avoid the arcade in the main tent, the staff were all incredibly rude to many people on several occasions and seemed like they don’t want to be there.
There are one way systems all over Butlins, sanitiser everywhere and masks are encouraged to be worn so it’s all managed very well.
We’ll be back (but please sort out the booking app).

We booked through a sun 950 deal so paid very little for the half term week in October - about £140 for a standard room for Monday to Friday. With this being our first Butlins experience and knowing we hadn't spent much on it we didn't have too high expectations and went expecting it to not be fancy! Our room was pretty dire. We were expecting something sort of inline with a premier inn as bring 2019 we didn't think such a big company would have anything more basic... Well, the standard rooms are VERY basic. The bed was one of the most uncomfortable things I have ever laid on. After the first night and hardly any sleep I contacted the maintenance team who sent a 'mattress topper' which was just another duvet under the sheet but it did make it bearable. The rooms were very old and dated. The beds had broken legs and it wasn't exactly cosy. However, we didn't spend too much time in the room and given how little we paid, we weren't too fussed. Had we paid more then we would have been less than impressed!
The activities made up for the accommodation! My kids were busy non-stop all day, everyday! We usually go to Center Parcs where every activity is an expensive add on. My eldest son did one of the paid Mitre football sessions which he loved but it wasn't really necessary as he joined in with the free ones and enjoyed them just as much! My boys did tennis, football, mini archery and mini fencing. We watched the shows - the potato heads, paddington and sleeping beauty were brilliant. My only issue was the relentless queueing in the evening to get a seat. On the panto day people were queueing from about 4pm to get in so my hubby ended up having to rush his dinner to get in the queue while myself and my boys ate and even then we only just got seated right at the back! I think it's time for them to redo their evening entertainment venues with way more seating
The fairground was good but it was a shame that you had to pay so much for the go karts when everything else seems to be mostly included. It was hard for the children to understand that they could go on everything else as much as they wanted but not the go karts.
The pool was great. My children loved the small slides and my eldest loved the flumes and rapids. We spent hours in there. The changing rooms were disgusting but the pool was good.
We paid for premium dining which we really enjoyed. Plenty of choice of everything including fresh fruit. I hope that in the future they will consider adding more vegan options and marking their dishes as to what allergens they contain as I feel they're a bit behind the times with this. The staff were very helpful and friendly. One night there was not much choice for my pescatarian son so they cooked him some fish fingers which was great. It would be nice to see vegetarian/vegan burgers offered on the live cooking stations.
Overall, for the price, we had an amazing time. However, I wouldn't be happy to pay hundreds of pounds for the same experience. I will carry on booking sun 950 bargains when I am lucky enough to find them!

I’ve been to Butlin’s probably for the last 7 years and it’s got worse over the years, and more expensive with very little free. Having to pay for WiFi is daft most trains and buses provide free unlimited WiFi yet Butlin’s expect you to pay, again so they can get more money out of you. I’ve unlimited data on my phone but for some reason there is very little signal whilst your staying in Butlin’s so they really do have you over a barrel with the WiFi.
Our room which was silver accommodation in lobster court was filthy looks like it hasn’t been used in a while was dusty inside and outside thick in dirt and half the furniture in the room was broken and the bedding was stained. The lights outside had what I can only describe as toilet paper soaked and thrown at the light fittings and then dried looking a real mess. The whole complex needs a revamp, good jet wash with antibacterial spray used and painting. Rooms need painting with new furniture.
Premium dining used to be great but I feel like this has even gone downhill with it a bit of a free for all and not as organised as it used to be. The custard had no taste not the porridge in the morning. However the staff in the restaurants are fab, and many faces I recognise from previous years.
The pool - None of the jacuzzis worked outside or inside during our stay the wave pool no longer works and the blue slide only opened for two out of our four days!
Funfair - We then have the funfair with half the rides out of action. Unfortunately, you aren’t aware of any of this till you arrive, and they have your money. Maybe guests should be made aware of what’s working and not working before they arrive with some money back.
Optional extras - my daughter and her friend had the adrenaline passes which we fab and the guys running this areas are fab and make it worthwhile. Defo a plus for Butlin’s and it was worth the £20 each for this. However, pottery painting has gone from £5 in 2019 to £8 in 2020 this is a huge increase especially when you have two to pay for.
I love Butlin’s and have a little mini break there in feb each year and writing this makes me feel guilty but I feel like there really needs a shift in the management and maybe some young fresh eyes in to whip it back into shape. Guests pay a lot to go and we expect to get what we pay for and I feel this year it’s been poor and I’m doubtful I will return next year.

After having our holiday abroad cancelled we decided on something in the UK, we saw Butlins had excellent prices for 3 adults and we decided to go for it, and we're glad we did.
We booked seaside apartments with a balcony and would do this again, the rooms have everything you need to have an enjoyable stay. The fridges are a tad small, although because we had a dining plan this didn't effect us much. The rooms are cosy and have enough space for everything you need, the rooms have heaters so you can control the temperature yourself.
As we were an adult party we didn't book any shows, but when we heard them they sounded great, and kids would enjoy them very much. The skyline is great and has everything you need inside to have an enjoyable holiday, we visited the Jellyfish Lounge and Hotshots every night and it was great. The arcades are also really good and it's quite easy to win prices. The supermarket onsite sold a lot of co-op things, so the prices are very similar. The fair would be great for children and teenagers, there isn't many rides but it is fun to pass some time. The arcade you go through to get to the fairground is better for prices, so I would recommend you go there if you win tickets. The beach on site is lovely and we would've spent more time there if the weather was better.
We booked premium dining and even with the limited menu we always found something to eat, and I am super fussy. The breakfast options include things like cooked sandwiches, full breakfasts, cereals, yogurts, pastries, and pancakes. The food is cooked to excellent quality and I definitely recommended the bacon sandwiches. For the evening meal the menu changes daily, the first night we had a pork dinner, the second there was chicken tikka masala and amazing bbq chicken, we had hunters chicken on the third night and the chicken was the best chicken we have ever had. There is always some sort of meat to have a roast dinner with, and the desserts are amazing. At both meals there is unlimited tea and coffee and fruit juice. The restrictions actually make it easier, you go round in a one way system, and the staff serve your food up for you, the cereals, yogurts and desserts are in the fridge and you just grab these yourself. On our last night we ate out at Ludo's and it was very tasty and not very expensive.
The staff really make the resort, they are all so kind and polite and are always smiling and providing an excellent service. The staff are a credit to the place and make the holiday a lot more enjoyable. Even with restrictions we didn't queue once to get into anywhere, they try make the holiday as normal as it can be.
You need the new track and trace app to check-in to every venue, and the Bserve app to order your drinks when you're at Butlins. You have to wear a mask indoors unless you are seated at a table. There is hand sanitizer available everywhere and you are asked to use it before entering most venues. The staff at Butlins do everything they can to make it as safe as possible.
I hope whoever decides to go has a lovely holiday!

We’ve just got back from an absolutely brilliant Monday to Friday Just For Tots break. We stayed in a new style silver apartment which was spotlessly clean on arrival and very comfortable. The apartment had some useful essentials provided such as washing up liquid, scourer, dish cloth, tea towel, loo roll and soap. Towels were not provided but this was made very clear at the time booking and what to bring checklist info.
We had booked a number of shows and activities for our 2 year old to enjoy. By the time we had logged on to the Plan My Day website the evening after receiving the email to say booking was open a lot of activities and shows were fully booked. In future we will definitely try and get on the booking website earlier, though with number restrictions due to Covid it’s understandable that things will get booked up quickly. That said we were still able to book plenty of things to keep our little one busy and happy.
All of the shows that we attended were great for youngsters with singing and dancing. In terms of activities we did the Toddler Arts and Crafts session, the Balance Bikes (which had a small additional charge) and a session at Splashworld. We also really enjoyed the mini fairground and the play areas. The swimming pool is absolutely fantastic, it’s enormous with multiple sections with different attractions and slides. Our little girl loved the mini slides for toddlers and it’s the most fun she’s ever had at a swimming session.
In terms of the Covid safety measures there had been a lot of thought and effort gone in to making the resort safe. There were hand sanitiser stations everywhere, masks had to be worn indoors and there is an app for ordering food and drink across the resorts entertainment venues and restaurants which reduced contact and removed the need to leave tables to visit the bar. Tables were also spaced out well at the venues and whenever anyone sat down staff removed a marker from the table to indicate that it would need to be sanitised before being used by the another group. There is a decent selection of restaurants and pubs on site and we found the food to be reasonably priced. We were impressed by the quality of Ludo’s Italian, we had takeaway pizza and it was delicious.
All of the staff we encountered at the resort were brilliant, they were so friendly and helpful and seemed to genuinely care about the experience of the guests.
Out break was fantastic, it was exceptional value for money and we all had a brilliant family holiday. We can’t wait to return.

Been here for tots week and can't really fault it stayed in new style silver apartments there nice but basic. There everything you need in the kitchen to cook meals with and they supply you with enough plates glasses cutlery for what you need as well as washing up liquid although it not a huge amount it's fine for 4 days. The tea towel maybe bring your own as it's a bit thin. There no towels provided and no house keeping for the week but that's exspected due to the virus. In the bathroom your provided with 4 toilet rolls and a soap and antic bac wipes when you first arrive and a shower but would fit in a baby bath if you wanted one in it.
The shows have all been good even if you haven't booked we had no issues getting onto them even the most popular like the skyline gang ones we always managed to get in. The best shows for us were teddy goes to the zoo and the skyline gang ones, milkshake was ok show and teletubbies party was ok for what it was.
The fairground was good you could get on all the rides with very little waiting time even with the stringent cleaning in between goes and always an offer of hand sanitizer avalible to use. The explore animals is good but small and you have to stay in squares until the person in front of you moved all one way. We also did little tykes town which was ok but more like a playgroup than anything else and only one adult per child.
Butlins has strict guidelines In place you always got to hand santize wherever you go seeing shows walking into skyline at the shop any activities and pubs or resteraunts also track and trace app you need that when you go as you have to scan everywhere as well as the b serve app for drinks and snacks.
Social distantancing hasn't been too bad either minus children but you can't blame them for that everything been so well organised it's felt completely safe and comfortable not felt busy at all.
The pubs on site are nice and comfortable and the prices are a little higher than usual but you exspect that a pint around £4.50 and a bottle of cider £5.05. The shop sells majority of things and is a little pricey but it's got co op prices.
Always someone around cleaning and tidying up site itself is clean so no complaints to be had.
Free WiFi is fine for streaming videos games and everything.Dont buy the WiFi
Just a warning the Asda petrol station for click and collect is shut for a couple of weeks so if you booked food delivery check that else it go Boston 🤣 but they do deliver to site. Diversions on Roman Road.

Brilliant from start to finish , just like we did before Covid, everywhere you went there was sanitising stations and masks must be worn everywhere under cover but not in fresh air situations.
We did everything we always did on a family holiday , the shows you had to book via an app , this also applies to getting drinks inside the shows , so it means that you don't leave your table unless toilet or leaving .
Once a show has finished you HAD to leave the venue to which the whole venue was then sanitised throughout for the next show.
We was self catering and ate out every night at the various food outlets, good meals at good prices all again ordered and using the app.
The check in on arrival was con tactless free , you arrived directed to your check-in , given an envelop at your allotted time arrival and had to wait a couple of hours for the rooms to be sanitised and sealed with red tape to show nobody had entered after cleaning what a brilliant idea in the world we live in today.
You can use the camp whilst waiting for your room to be activated using your key card.
Some outlets were closed ie sweets but that is to be expected.
Swimming pool unbelievable , everything done to the Covid standards and more , you are given a hour and half slot and you had to leave in that time , again to be deep cleaned.
Overall i would recommend highly to anybody if you're worried about going on holiday with covid worries , Butlins has it sorted

4 of us stayed in a self catering apartment. The apartment was clean and warm and ample for what we needed sleeping showering cooking and chilling. There was a cooker fridge utensils crockery iron and ironing board provided.
The acts were great the atmosphere was great. Everyone was friendly. Didnt have to queue too long at the bar despite the huge amount of people there.
Only downfall is not enough seating and tables in some concert rooms...... You have to get there early doors and not move if you want to sit down.
The acts were brilliant and there's numerous discos all day. Really good for groups of friends who wanna have a great time.
Highly recommendeded by me I thoughlly enjoyed myself I'd defiantly go again.

having visited butlins twice previous in October half term when it has been extremely busy we did wonder what a trip In August during the pandemic would be like. After having 2 foreign holidays cancelled we decided once again to visit Butlins and what a good decision it turned out to be. Check in was smooth and quick, upon entering our room it had the red sticker on to advise it had been deep cleaned. We had a silver room that was spacious and clean. We had used the plan my day app before arriving on site so all our shows were booked as well as swimming slots. We never once queued for anything which at butlins on a normal break is unheard of. We saw Diversity, Animals Fx, Circus and Coldplay to name a few, the new booking system works brilliantly and something that butlins should definitely look at keeping going forward. Weather was perfect all week and was great to have the outdoor stage, not sure what would happen during bad weather. Swimming again was booked pre arrival and we booked 2 slots for our 4 night stay, no queues for slides and again this is something I think butlins should keep going forward. We had premium dining and although the food was good there was not as many choices which we found a little disappointing. When we arrived we were surprised to find no facemask was required in the skyline or arcades only the shops however I know this changed the day we returned home so that all masks were required inside.Hand sanitiser is required to be used before entering any show. All in all we had a fantastic break and after the last few months was so nice to spend quality time with my family as well as the fun of all the shows. Well done Butlins you definitely got it right 5*

Hiya you can take your own. Sometimes depending where the photo shoot is you might not get face on as they have you standing at the side! It's really annoying as the photos are expensive. Good luck hope you get good ones
you will need to check with Butlins
