In the heart of Burgundy, one of the most traditional regions in France, our two gites will allow you to discover the historical cities of Beaune, Dijon, Autun or Cluny, at a maximum of 1 hour driving. A wide range of castles from Middle Age to Renaissance are located at less than 40km, as well as numerous roman chapels. Located in a peacefull wine maker’s village, out of big roads, the access to the gites is very easy, at 12km from A6 Motorway and Chalon-sur-Saone exit. Many walks on the hills and the vineyards for family or sporty guests are possible from the gites without taking the car, and for cyclists we can lend bikes. We live next door (but non intrusive) and we enjoy giving tips on what to see and visit off beaten tracks.

Le Pressoir
We have stayed at Le Pressoir 3 times and have recommended it to friends and family who have also stayed there for their holiday in Burgundy. The welcome and help from the owners is first rate without being overpowering. The gite is well located for many activities, including local walks through the vineyards of Saint Martin and Mercurey, walks/drives along the Canal du Centre and day trips to interesting historical and scenic towns such as Beaune, Cluny, Autun, Dijon, Lyon and the famous towns of the Cote D'Or including, Meursault, Aloxe- Corton, Nuits Saint Georges and Clos de Vugeot. There are lots of opportunities for wine tasting in the surrounding towns and there are plenty of local restaurants serving excellent, well priced meals. Our two favourites are 'Le Mercurey' in Mercurey and 'Le Petit Blanc' in Charrecey for excellent, reasonably priced lunches and diners, good burgundy wines, a very 'French' ambiance and a friendly welcome from the owners, even when your French is not that good!
The gite itself will quite comfortably accommodate four adults in its two bedrooms and the open plan living area and garden is great for meals and barbeques in the warmer months. Still enough room, and warm, when the days are cooler. A short, picturesque walk (10-15 minutes) takes you to the boulangerie in Mellecey and there is a small, well provisioned supermarket 3 km away in Mercurey. A larger supermarket is 7 km away on the road to Chalon. Chalon sur Soane has a good local market twice a week as do other towns in the area.

The spacious and comfortable gîte 'La Petite Maison' is very easily accessible from A6/Chalon-sur-Saône. Yet you are in the midst of the tranquility of a enchanted '(La) Vallée des Vaux'. The valley and surrounding areas lend itself perfectly to a small or large walk that you can start at the gîte. Along the same route, the valley and the surrounding area never look the same and will continue to surprise you.

As a wine lover, congratulate yourself that you are not only in the middle of the Côte Chalonnaise but of the whole ‘Burgundy winestrip’. Within an hour you are both in the northernmost appellation of the Côtes de Nuits (Marsannay) and the southernmost appellation of the Mâconnais (Saint-Véran). What a wealth so close to the gîte!

A separate appreciation for the quiet city center of Chalon-sur-Saône. The town is just 10 km from the gite and has all the amenities. Drink, dine at (or just enjoy) the Place St. Vincent before the cathedral and do not forget to see a unique collection of photos in the Nicéphore Niépce Museum.

A final word for the host Xavier Maglott because he completely redefines the relationship between guest and host. Which results in a very friendly and warm person, who is always ready for you, provides you with personal, original advices, but also listens very carefully to what you have discovered. This creates a very positive and inspiring interaction that benefits all visitors from the gîte(s)!

We came to "The Wine Press" needing rest and serenity. The cottage was simply wonderful: comfortable, well appointed, homely. Xavier welcomed us warmly and offered detailed advice as to how we could make the most of our time in the area. We chose to walk. The region is so picturesque. History and wine imbue each hamlet and laneway. We are so grateful for the recommendation we had to come to Saint-Martin-sous Montaigu and we will return.

This Gite was fabulous to stay in. We have stayed there a few times. Host Xavier couldnt have been more obliging and helpful. Gite was very clean and had all you need in it. Also spacious. Not far to walk to Mercurey and surrounding little villages. Very quiet and scenic espcially in the autumn. Also good location for day trips to Beune,Chalon, Givry etc

This was our return visit to Le Pressoir at this time in Autumn. To say the location of the gite is glorious at this time of year is an understatement. From September into October you are surrounded by golden, autumnal vineyards. La Maison de Zelie is a terrific central place to stay and visit the sights of Burgundy; to walk and drive through its vineyards and hills, to search out and enjoy some of its local, often hidden away, restaurants that only the locals and TripAdvisor know about, to taste and drink the local pinot noire wines and stop at the markets for regional food to take home. We also liked visiting the Sunday brocante markets. On the practical side, the Gite is spotless and roomy enough for four adults to share. The small outdoor area was great for lunches and enjoying local wine and cheese. The kitchen was well equipped and we made good use of the washing machine. Importantly, WIFI access is very good! It is excellent value for money. There is a delightful 15 minute walk to the nearby town to a good bakery, and in Mercurey, 3 kms away there are two bakeries and a small but very well stocked supermarket. For a larger supermarket we visited the Carefour Market which is a 10 minute drive. For wine tastings we visited the Caveau DiVin in Mercurey where many of the Mercurey wines are available. The main reason we came back to this particular Gite though, was the wonderful hospitality of the host, Xavier. He speaks excellent English and he is always available to answer questions, provide information and look after his guests. We needed a trip to the doctor and he helped us with this too. He is passionate about sustainability and tourism, about the region and about the experience it offers for all visitors, in particular families, and this showed in the genuine desire he demonstrated to make our visit enjoyable. Staying in this gite with local hosts in the French countryside, was a delight and we hope to come back.

Lovely gite in southern Burgundy. Surroundings are beautiful (go for a walk through picture-perfect wine fields) but the best thing is the owners: Xavier is incredibly helpful and friendly and makes you feel welcome. Great stay. Don't forget to visit the nearby wineries.
