Our first night in Burgundy after a long drive, looking for anticipated good food and ambience. What a find this was! The welcome and seating at the table was very friendly, the help with the menu, which we needed a little, was generously given and very precise. But all the time there was a smile and warmth from the host...

We spent 10 days exploring the Loire/Cher Valley and this was hands down the worst hotel we had. It purports to be a 3 star hotel, but I would not give it a single star. It is tired, untidy, and disorganized. If this is your only choice go to another town.

We arrived at 5 ish to find the place shut, despite our reservation. We were able to find our way in round the back, and after 20 mins or so, the perfectly friendly proprietor turned up, without batting an eyelid. The hotel is on the edge of Montrichard, and from the outside is dated and unprepossessing. Inside, it's even more...

It certainly didn't merit the displayed 3 stars. The decor was tired and gloomy. The public areas were unattractive and uncared for. Although the carpet in the long empty gallery had been vacuumed, the vacuuming was still going on as we arrived at 4.00pm. The linen cupboards and cleaning materials-cupboards stood untidily open and the one lady who received us...

Our first impression was very poor. There was no one at the very untidy reception when we arrived and the phone we were supposed to use to call someone was missing. It appeared a few minutes later, in use, and we had no acknowledgement by its user until the call was finished seven minutes later. The reception area was not...

We have stayed twice at this hotel. Slightly quirky and old style, but big quiet rooms. And very defo not a bland chain owned place. Try it for a genuine feel and to avoid the bland uniformiity of so many places.

More shabby than chic but our room was huge, with a lovely big shower room and separate toilet. Lovely comfy mattress, could do with more/ better pillows. Room was spotlessly clean and very quiet. Free wifi a bonus. Breakfast was very good for the price. Staff friendly and helpful. Ably assisted by a lovely little Jack Russell, who greats you...

It is a very old and huge hotel. It is that kind of hotel for which you cannot rate it low but you also cannot do the contrary. We got a triple bed room that was clean and with A LOT of space. Same for the bathroom. Do not expect a modern hotel, everything is old but clean. The staff...

We have stayed at the 'Black Head' in the past, but not for several years. It is a very old hotel, which was owned by the same family for many years but has now changed hands. First the positives, well just one positive really. It has a restaurant and the cooking is very good - 2 courses for E14 or...
