Detailed Reviews
Maybe this is a hopping place in peak season but in Spring, not so much. Rooms are fine, clean comfortable. Men and women must purchase a rubber swimming cap to wear in the pools (?!). The property is spacious with good parking. Families with kids would do well here with the pools and room to roam. The restaurant and bar were never open. Breakfast is fine but a huge spread for not many guests. We came from the city to the country for peace and quiet. Now the dogs….. We were serenaded from 10pm to 4 AM by loud, dogs just next door, barking incessantly but with brief pauses that made you think they were done barking. We could not sleep. Internet was intermittent and could not seem to be fixed even though the wireless access point was right outside our room. It is a beautiful if impractical spot for tourist business and probably best suited for conferences or Spa customers. Staff was very nice, very helpful and listened attentively but did not fix the problems with the internet and reassured us that dogs are very popular in Portugal and barking day and night was expected.

Response from Real Abadia Hotel, Outro at Real Abadia, Congress & Spa Hotel
Responded 20 May 2022
Dear Mr Frank, Thank you in advance for leaving us your evaluation. At the moment we do not have a restaurant in operation and only a meals service in partnership with several renowned restaurants in the region that has to be booked in advance. This information was on the confirmation that you received at the moment of your reservation. We work daily to provide the best service for our guests. Best regards Real Abadia Congress & Spa Hotel

The water pressure and temperature of the showers in the rooms must be checked. Every time someone pulls the water, it suddenly becomes boiling or freezing cold for the person taking a shower next to it. The TV is also old and it is no longer justified in a 4-star hotel not to have SMART TV. The gentleman who takes care of the hotel and the animals is extremely professional, attentive and friendly (and plays the piano so well!) They should try to make better use of the space as they have a bar that is almost never used and could serve as an aid to the pool for cocktails or until the same breakfast restaurant is better used for the rest of the day's meals. As for the rest, we especially loved the fact that the SPA was open until 11pm. Thanks

For a 4 star hotel it is not understandable why there is a restaurant service for all meals, when we made an appointment we knew that we would only have dinner and that we would have to make an appointment by 11am, however when we tried to make an appointment, they informed us that there would be no meals! Rooms in need of work, indoor pool without all equipment working. Nice outdoor space, but with some maintenance already needed. Few chairs in the outdoor pool and in poor condition.

This hotel simply doesn't work. Nothing works.
I'll start by saying that I'm not the type of person who writes bad reviews just because, because I prefer to write when it's a good experience.
We booked 2 nights and if I could go back, I wouldn't have booked one.
Upon check-in, we paid in full for the stay and asked to schedule a massage for the next day, which was arranged. The next day I called reception to confirm the time and our surprise was when they said that the massage shouldn't have been booked by the night receptionist without talking to the colleague (masseur) first. In other words, massage cancelled.
But everything is fine.
The room is not comfortable, the upholstery of the bed is falling apart and as soon as I opened the bed there were 2 huge hairs. Cleaning is terrible. 2-star hotels have more comfort.
Spa: it’s SURREAL. So bad. The jacuzzi and waterfall are only running for 2 minutes every 15 minutes. The water is cold considering the ambient temperature. The Turkish bath and sauna must be requested 15 minutes before use to operate.
I repeat surreal.
Breakfast: Employee walked through the middle of the room with a trash bag coming from the kitchen…..
Food at the hotel: does not exist. How is it possible for a 4-star hotel to have no food other than breakfast? Not a packet of potatoes. Yes, because even the vending machine is out of order. Taking into account that the location doesn't have much on offer, the minimum was to serve snacks at the bar.
I repeat nothing works in this hotel.
They serve dinner if you book before 11:00 in the morning, but it is not cooked in the hotel kitchen. As we didn't book until 11am we thought we'd go to the bar to order a snack and a drink but what a surprise we were when they said it wasn't possible because our colleague was absent. Now I ask. With only 1 dining table in the living room, couldn't the colleague in the kitchen make 2 sandwiches and serve a glass of juice or water? A lot of lack of will. The employee at reception did nothing to help, she could have at least served drinks at the bar but once again, she lacked desire. How is it possible in a 4-star hotel not to sell food other than breakfast and dinner which has to be booked at 11am? We just wanted a snack, a drink, anything.
Don't spend your money here.
It was supposed to be 2 nights to relax and it was anything but.
It has infrastructure but employees are unwilling and the lack of attention to customers is regrettable.
I hope this isn't just another complaint (there were more people at reception complaining) but that it serves to improve the entire service.

My experience at the Spa at this hotel was, unfortunately, a huge disappointment and, for me, it is a clear 'NO'. From the beginning, the service left a lot to be desired, with a clear lack of friendliness and professionalism. The doubt remains about the criteria that qualify this place as a 'Spa'.
The self-proclaimed 'Spa' is, in fact, just made up of a swimming pool, a small Turkish bath cubicle and a sauna. Although the pool has jets, its operation leaves a lot to be desired, as it is not controlled by the user - as would be expected in a spa - but rather for the time determined by the hotel. After questioning, I was informed by these words, and, to make matters worse, the jets work for a mere 45 seconds every eight minutes (yes, I had plenty of time to count, as there is nothing to do in this spa). Remembering that when the bubbles are not working, you are just in an indoor pool with barely heated water.
As for massages, when booked it would be a "couple" massage but once in the space it would be individual and at 40 minute intervals. I can't give an opinion about it, as I left before having the opportunity to try it, due to the total lack of assistance and attention from the reception team regarding the spa. My attempts at communication were completely ignored, leaving me quite disappointed.
Upon leaving, long before it was time to complete any of the procedures, I was confronted by the receptionist about the reason for leaving early. To make the situation worse, he laughed in my face, claiming that I was visiting the space using a 'voucher', thus devaluing the reasons for my dissatisfaction. This 'voucher' cost me, by chance, €83 through Odisseias.
I didn't like it at all, I don't recommend it and I didn't feel welcome. No one made an effort/worked to improve my experience as a customer who PAID to go relax. I came very disappointed, upset about the money spent in vain and I didn't enjoy what was 'promised' and described to me.

It is not in line with the 4 stars it has. They do not have enough staff to attend to the spa area, taking into account that it is a SPA hotel and it is not exactly cheap. The rooms are old, neglected. The bathroom was damp, and it didn't have a full shower, meaning the shower head (head) only had a handheld one, not so you could shower without holding it (this in a 4 star hotel...). In general it looks neglected, without maintenance. If they offer you a massage after 12 noon on the day you leave, they do not give you the option to shower anywhere afterwards. I insist that we are talking about a 4-star spa hotel...and it is not cheap.

Very pleasant hotel in a country setting, but close to the city of Alcobaça. The rooms have a themed decoration based on cheetahs, a traditional fabric from this region. The spa is very nice: it has a small pool, sauna and Turkish bath. The service is impeccable. The staff are attentive and helpful. The breakfast is abundant and varied!

Unfortunately my stay became quite unpleasant at the last minute when a lady from the reception called me to the room at 12 a.m. to ask if everything was okay because the check-out was at 12 a.m. I was closing my suitcase to get out when you called and we're not talking about an hour later or even 30 minutes we're talking about 12:00 in point and the arrogant way you said to ask if everything was okay. I find it unacceptable to treat guests who are at the hotel for the first time and of course do not want to come back.
It really gave the feeling that we had already paid we had already benefited now goodbye get on the go....
Very bad. Very bad image.
It was my second time in this area the first I stayed in a great hotel and this time I decided to try this one and I was extremely sorry. I'll never go back or indicate to anyone again.

+1
We loved the family atmosphere, the "welcome drink" game, the warm pool, feeding the goats, the involvement with nature...
The rooms are also very comfortable. Breakfast is pleasant, with a view of the mountains.
Coming back for sure 😊

I do not recommend it. You cannot give 4 stars to a SPA hotel with deficiencies, poor maintenance, humidity, the bathroom does not have a complete shower (you have to use the shower manually), lack of availability for massages, a disaster. They charge like a 4 star when in reality it corresponds to a 2 star...Not recommended at all.
