We spent a week in the Alcazar at the begining of March. We had a junior suite which consisted of a bedroom, bathroom with shower over bath, large sitting room and balcony. A TV was provided in the bedroom and sitting room, a fridge and a safe. There were no tea making facilities in the room. The bed was extremely comfortable with good quality linen. All the staff were fantastic, friendly and professional and couldn't have been more helpful. The hotel was spotless. The breakfast buffet was great, with fruits, yoghurts, cold meats and cheese, cereals, rolls, pastries and hot food. A cook made omlettes or pancakes on alternate days. Drinks were self service from machines. The hotel was a short walk to the amazing beach and town. Would highly recommend
Stayed at this hotel only 5 minutes walk to open long sandy beach. Cafe , drinks along a wooden broadwalk over the beach. Not expensive at all much cheaper than western Algarve. Based near old fishing village so seafood is especially fresh and available anytime , Highly recommend for a time away from the normal hustle and bustle of tourists locations very relaxing walking along the beach for miles if you want. Day trips to Spain via boat is very easy as close to the border.
Home now after a great month staying at the Alcazar Monte Gordo. Arrived on 2 walking sticks + left with them in the suitcase. Wonderful comfortable suite. 5* views. The Hotel is very good and has all the amenities. However, the staff make it what it is, a very special venue. The Spa was beneficial to my wife and helped her a lot. The Hotel is very homely and a perfect base for exploring the Algarve. I would recommend it as it caters for all age groups and in is a lovely position. Best regards David Richardson.
Just come back from The Alcazar and what a great hotel, we had a junior suite which was a great place and beautifully presented with great service, facilities. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The only down side for me was the lack of English channels on the TV for those times you just fancy a relax in the suite .
For my winter break last year, I opted to take a five-day break Portugal, a new destination for me - and having researched several hotels/areas, the ones which ticked most of the boxes were Monte Gordo and the Alcazar. Upon arrival at Monte Gordo, it seemed that I’d made the correct choice, as it has much more of a local and authentic feel than some larger resorts. The frontage of the Alcazar looks very much like a typical 4-star hotel of its era, but upon entering, you very quickly get the feeling that this definitely isn’t your typical hotel! The interior design is very unlike anything I’ve seen anywhere - lots of curves and arches with extremely effective use of space which reveals plenty of secluded areas to sit, and an pleasantly calming ambience very reminiscent of a cave complex - extremely aesthetically pleasing, and something which left me with high hopes of what would follow. This flow continues through into the two large bar areas and games room/information points on the ground floor, and also into the corridor leading down to the lifts. There are three in total - the two to the left grant access to the accommodation floors and restaurant, and the one facing you at the end of the corridor will take you to the accommodation floors and car park/pool area. Also in the reception area is a staircase leading down to the spa and an exit towards the pool area. I was particularly pleased with the room I was allocated which was very large and seemed recently refurbished, with a good-sized shower room, plenty of storage space, armchair, desk, fridge and safe, flat-screen TV and Bluetooth speaker which was extremely easy to connect devices to. Everything was absolutely spotless, and the real star attraction of this room was the enormous balcony which boasted completely unbroken views across the pine forest towards the Rio Guadiana and Spain, with the sea visible off to the right and countryside to the left. An absolutely stunning place to sit and take in the surroundings. I found the hotel bar a very pleasant place to spend time - occasional entertainment took place there, but on other occasions it proved to be a peaceful and comfortable place to while away an evening, with the same pleasing architecture from the reception area and effective use of mirrored panels creating a calm and relaxing environment. The staff I encountered were always more than happy to take a little time to chat whenever possible (particularly Leo and Ricardo), and always seemed more than happy to go the extra mile for one of their guests. The outdoor pool area was something I unfortunately didn’t get much of a chance to enjoy to its fullest potential due to my visit being in late November, but it was extremely modern and appeared to be very well looked after, with a reasonable-sized pool, children’s pool, - good selection of sunbeds/Balinese beds (including some in a sandy area which were suspended by ropes from their top beams creating a rocking motion), a tennis/Padel court, a children’s play area and access to what looked to be an extremely modern and well-equipped gym. The cooler weather meant I did get a chance to experience the hotel spa, which I found to be both well-equipped and reasonably priced - I booked a massage which was just over €50 (and excellent - definitely recommended!), and that also granted me access to all the wet facilities of the spa, hire of a robe, and flip-flops to take away - the latter are also provided for use around the spa’s wet areas (pool with hydrotherapy jets, cold plunge pool, ice dispenser, sauna, steam room and feature shower) should you forget some of your own. The downstairs restaurant of the hotel carried on the flow from the upstairs area, with columns and mirrored panels, almost reminiscent of being in some kind of forest - very well-designed, with a huge feeling of spaciousness. The food was traditional in style - the hotel chooses to operate a modest Portuguese-style menu, meaning that you may not always see what you might expect to, but I found everything to be both fresh and of a very good quality - I certainly never went hungry or thirsty. In terms of drinks, the local Super Bock stout and Portuguese red wines are well worth trying... fantastic quality, and very reasonable! You may think upon arrival at the Alcazar that you can guess exactly what it will be like inside - but you certainly shouldn’t judge this book by its cover... I was both surprised and delighted by my stay there, and would unhesitatingly return!…
