The first time on holiday we chose a hotel over an apartment and was weary of the restrictions we would experience.

Overall the room was a sufficient size well maintained daily and the room was fresh. Bathroom was adequate with a sound shower with no issues for hot water. Clean fresh towels daily if required. View from the balcony was nice at the front of hotel with a view of the beach just a very short walk away on 5th floor.

Breakfast was part of the package which was buffet style however due to Covid-19 controls in place was well organised and served to you.

Staff we met mainly at breakfast have been very nice and pleasant. Big shout out to the cleaners of the hotel, our room looked like it did from the very first day. Wonderful.

Covid-19 has had an impact at the hotel with the Bar Closed however the Pool and Terrace where open and available for use and we did so each morning before venturing out. All to ourselves as few took advantage which was nice for us.

A great value hotel that you won't be disappointed with in our opinion and will return now that we gave found Monte Gordo.

Booked this week away before the pandemic coronavirus started. Wasn't sure if the holiday would go ahead, but it did.
The first couple of days were ok but the beach was closed off. Many shops and bars were closed but that could be due to it being very early season.
I found the hotel very nice considering how cheap it was for the week. Very clean. Very friendly and helpful receptionists.
My room was spotless and cleaned everyday, clean towels daily.
The breakfasts were very good. Something for everyone. Hot food; eggs, beans, mushrooms, sausage, bacon, continental items breads, rolls, pasties, cheeses, meats, fruits, yogurts, cereals etc. Dining staff very efficient although one young lady needs a lesson in smiling. She just stared grumpily at everyone.
The swimming pool was closed to the virus situation but it was still possible to sunbathe up on the roof as the beds and mattresses were still available.
Towards the end of the week, everything in town was closed apart from supermarket and pharmacy. The weather was also not so good so my last couple of days were spent in the hotel reading. There were many Dutch people staying and they were super friendly.
I would definitely return to this hotel in the future when the virus has been contained.

Stayed with my husband for a week of winter sun. Great location, good size room, lovely staff, clean and with a varied food selection (soup followed by fish or meat choice every night). Hot rolls and freshly baked (mini) croissants were delicious..
We stayed in a 55+ comfort room on a half board basis, which included 1 free drink (beer, wine or soft drink) with dinner.
Overall great value for money

Hotel was very close to the beach with bars and shops within easy distance. A lovely decorated foyer area with good helpful staff. Room was adequate but not large. A small balcony overlooked the road and a side view to the beach. beds were good and the only down side was there were no hot drink making faciklities. It had 2 lifts, one of which was out of action for our stay, this wasnt really an isue as the hotel didnt seem that busy, nut could be a bigger problem when it was. Room was attended to and beds made every day. I thought the restaurant was lovely well set out and not to busy, although it was just out of season. The restaurant staff were probably the most attentive I have yet to see in a hotel. always smiling and removing used plates and utensils quickly. Breakfast was a good a great choice of prepared fresh and tinned fruits, a small choice of hot food, yogurts, pastries, cooked meats etc. Fruit juice, tea and coffee machines. Evening meal always had a soup, choice of fish and meat, along with selection of vegetables. a huge array of salad items and probably the best display of chilled deserts ive seen in most hotels. The only down side to the food was.. I never had any food that was actually hot, it all seemed just luke warm to me. The roof area was quiet and the pool not large, but adequate for a little dip. A bar was open on the roof if you required a drink. All in all, a great 5 days away at an unbeleivable price for what we got. SHould I return to Monte Gordo, I wouldnt hessitate to stay again.

We spent 6 nights at this hotel which is very close to the beach. Food was varied and excellent quality with a different theme every day.
Staff friendly and helpful, spotless rooms which were cleaned every day.
Rooftop pool is small and not really big enough for a swim, but sits in a covered area so you can use it whatever the weather.
Easy walking distance to the next town (Vila Real de San Antonio) where you can take a ferry to Ayamonte in Spain for €2.50pp

We have spent 7 nights here, (belated honeymoon) half board. First time in my life I've stayed half board and every meal was delicious. Breakfast was a full cold and hot buffet, with tasty bacon and eggs, fresh fruit and lovely coffee. Every member of staff were friendly and always with a smile. Dinners were outstanding, hot and cold buffet, with a choice of a fish or meat dish. Desserts to die for. I swear I've put on weight. Everything delicious. Reception staff very helpful, printing out boarding passes with no problems. The location is perfect, just a stone throw from the beach, with multiple cafes and bars within yards of hotel. (Even tho its low season, enough places open. The only downfall, no kettle or coffee facilities in the room. That would have made the stay perfect, but hey ho, the rest makes up for it. Definitely recommend, and will be back (with a travel kettle!)

We had a fortnight's holiday from the 1st May and found the following:- Great location. Spotlessly clean. Excellent staff. The only downside was that the food was not very hot although the choice and quality was very good. The other thing was that there was only one accessible electricity socket in the room.

Had 9 nights here. Great hotel for the money. Food was fabulous especially the buffet dinners always with wonderful salads with a choice of fish or meat for main course with chips rice or pasta and vegetables. The puddings were scrumptious too.

Room bit dated but clean. Bathroom could do with being retiled but good shower.
Staff were lovely on reception and Paulo was a hoot in the dining room. Very efficient service.
Really enjoyed holiday. We even drove 2 hours to Seville on the motorway for fabulous day out.
Roll on 2021 we will be back.

The room was basic but clean. As we were at the back of the hotel the view was limited to the rears of other buildings. Friendly and helpful staff. Good choice for breakfast. There was only one socket in the room and the loo was too close to the washbasin so somewhat cramped.

I have just returned from a weeks holiday to this hotel and I must say that it was an excellent place to stay. The location is excellent, the food very good and the staff very accommodating. The only down side was that there was no nice view from the small balcony but as the hotel is not on the coast it was to be expected. I would definitely return to this hotel without any doubt whatsoever

My mum has prosthetic leg. How do you get to the beach, from the hotel and how long is it? please
Answer from Dub S
Dublin, Ireland84 contributions20 helpful votes
well its about 3min walk to the beach at a normal pace, when you cross the street there is a 100m wooden walk way over a sandy area leading to a long line of restaurants & cafs parallel to the long long beach which is about 50m away

Not sure, we've only been in Aug/Sept but speaking to the locals, lots of bars are open from March. Worth googling though

Yes, sunloungers are in abundance all along the beach. They cost €12 for 2 loungers, a parasol & a small table from 9am until 8pm (full day) or €10 for half day (9-2 or 2.30-8). Best thing about sunlounger area is you have a clear walk down to sea (which is amazing!) because there is a designated area for people who bring their own windbreakers etc. Also Yes, there are numerous restaurants & bars all around. We've been for past 4 yrs and still haven't been to all. The seafront has loads of gorgeous seafood restaurants but if you come back off the boardwalk area, there are even more at really reasonable prices. There's also a town square with hundreds of restaurants from Thai to Portugese to Italian. Almost all have a set menu..roughly €12pp for 3 courses. Even those who don't are still pretty reasonable, particularly for lunch. For the best cocktails in Monte Gordo go to Gig@byte! They are absolutely fantastic, proper alcohol!
