A beautiful building spoilt by a fusion of modern architecture and the existing architecture. It’s more if a conference place now than a hotel sadly. Lots of meeting rooms in soulless modern spaces and the lovely drawing room and the like shut off from guests. No room service available and a lack of bar staff, and after hiking upstairs with snacks and drinks we turned in. Lots of potential spoilt by poor service. Obviously aimed at business meetings for the grey people…..

Response from Jonathan Edwards, General Manager at Fanhams Hall Hotel

Thank you for taking the time to post your review following your recent stay with us at Fanhams Hall. Fanhams Hall is not a purpose built hotel we have a unique setting comprising of a Jacobean Manor with medieval hall steeped in history and heritage and blended with modern contemporary 21st century mod cons. All of which is surrounded by 27 acres of beautiful gardens. I was disappointed to read this wasn't to your liking. Conferences, weddings and events are a big part of our business but we also have very much to offer to our individual leisure guests. Our drawing room is an area in which we serve our popular afternoon teas, however we do make this area available to our hotel guests outside our service times, I apologise for your experience at that the bar and can confirm we unfortunately do not offer a room service facility. Thank you again for sharing your feedback

Where do I even begin? There are not enough words to thank everyone enough at Fanhams for ensuring our wedding day was perfect in every way. The staff were absolutely incredible and our day ran so smoothly. All of our guests couldn't stop complimenting the venue, from the beautiful grounds to the friendly staff and the delicious food. Everyone we spoke to told us it was the best wedding they had ever been to! From the moment we first viewed Fanhams Hall, we fell in love with it. We absolutely loved the stunning great hall and long gallery. Symphonie first showed us around and from that moment she was there for us all the way through the planning process and up until the day before the wedding, she was amazing. Symphonie was so lovely and supportive, always on hand to answer any questions and offer advice. An absolute credit to Fanhams wedding team! The week before the wedding, we met Rachel, our function manager for the day. She went through every little detail with us and ensured that everything was in order for our big day and that we had no worries or concerns. We just want to say the biggest thank you to Rachel, she worked so hard all day to ensure our wedding day was everything we wanted it to be and she just made our day run so smoothly. Fanhams are so lucky to have Rachel, she's an absolute star! So many people have commented on how amazing she was, she really couldn't do enough for us throughout the whole day and ensured that everyone was happy and having the best time. Also, a big shout out to Florin who was also amazing on our day, we first met Florin at our menu tasting and he was so friendly. He worked alongside Rachel on our special day to ensure that everyone was where they should be and doing what they should be doing! You were both just incredible. We attended a wedding menu tasting in the months leading up to the wedding where we got to sample some of the delicious canapes and dishes, we then selected our choices for the wedding day. The food on our day did not disappoint and everybody absolutely loved it, from the selection of canapes to the wedding breakfast meal. The staff were very attentive and served the food quickly. Fanhams were very accommodating for our guests with dietary requirements, and these guests were extremely pleased with how well they were catered for. The evening 'fish and chip shop' buffet was also delicious (so we've been told, neither of us actually had any as we were too busy partying)! On the night of our wedding we stayed in the Chestnut suite, the most beautiful room with absolutely stunning views. It was so spacious with lots of facilities, the bed was soo comfy and the bathroom was amazing. My only negative comment is that we didn't get to stay in there long enough to make the most of it! There is so much more we could say about this incredible venue and their staff, but we would honestly be here all day. So, we would just like to say thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts for helping to make our day as perfect as it was. We really did have the best day of our lives, it was everything we had dreamed of and more! Mr & Mrs Griffin X

Stayed here for business at the end of August 2023. Hotel was a million miles from the marketing. Shabby decor and fittings. Broken locks, peeling paint, plug sockets not working and mysterious stains. The staff are so uninterested and lacking motivation that they don’t communicate basic information. There was a code to get into the annexe where my bedroom was. I checked in, schlepped all my stuff across to this annexe then couldn’t get in. Back again and asked the lady that checked me in. “Oh, you need the code” when I asked her why she didn’t give it to me 5 minutes before she just shrugged. The next morning I went down for breakfast at 9:45 (website says breakfast to 11am) and found the breakfast was over. Went to reception and asked. It seems it finishes at 9:30am on weekdays. But they don’t tell you. Nothing in the room and no notification at check in. How was I to know? The answer “That’s e way we do it” I would avoid this hotel if you can.

We are naturally disappointed to read of your experience and it is regrettable that you did not speak to a Duty Manager to pass this on whilst you were staying with us. I have personally looked into your feedback and done a full room check on the room in which you stayed - I found all the plug sockets in perfect working order, no broken locks, no peeling paint and no mysterious stains. I do apologise the door code was not shared with you upon check in, I'm sure this was just a momentary lapse, nevertheless I have shared your feedback with the Guest Service Team to ensure we have no future occurrences. Our breakfast times are 7am to 9:30am Mon to Fri and 8am - 10am Sat & Sun this is detailed on our website I am unsure where you have seen alternative times. We do have a guest directory in each bedroom which also details this. Despite these set times we always do our very best to accommodate any guest that may be a little late, I do apologise if this wasn't offered to you. Thank you for your feedback.

We held our 50th WA there last month and our guests still can't stop talking about it. Nothing was too much from start to finish. The chef was so helpful with planning the menu. The food was amazing. The staff were great very professional but friendly. The young lad went over and beyond what he did to make our day really special. Some guests stayed over and were more than happy with their rooms and the quality and quantity of breakfast. The people planning with me were helpful making suggestions and quickly dealing with last minute changes from the families side. You must visit the gardens which are tranquil and well kept. I would strongly advise putting this on your priority list for any function you are planning. Only problem get some batteries for guests like me who forget them for their decorations lol Thank you so much to all management and staff once again

We stayed in room 66 after a wedding, unfortunately we were unable to check in to the room before the wedding started so didn't see the room until midnight so it was too late to complain, My biggest complaint is that the room was dirty (suspicious stains on the bed skirt, water marks all over shower screen, mould on shower door and hole in bed cover) also one of the shower heads was broken. Smaller issues were: The decor was outdated No elevator access The room was tiny I did make a complaint first thing the next day about the dirt found in the room and emailed pictures as requested, although I received an apology it felt a bit half hearted as I felt I was just getting housekeeping in trouble and there was no offer of a resolution to me. I expected better for the price.

We stayed here for two mid week nights, the overall experience was very good. With this said, there are many opportunities where the hotel could make the experience exceptional. We stayed in the Chestnut room which was spacious and had a great shower, but the overnight temperature was just too hot for a good nights sleep. The gardens from a distance are just stunning, but on closer viewing there is a need for weeding and general maintenance. More gardeners needed!!! The hotel is geared up to the needs of meetings and weddings. Which it appears that they do an amazing job. We enjoyed our stay but just think the hotel could really be amazing. Just needs more love and attention.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review following your recent stay with us at Fanhams Hall. I pleased that on the whole you had an enjoyable experience, it is unfortunate that your stay was during the recent mini heatwave and as such found the temperature too hot for a good nights sleep we do provide fans in all our bedrooms to add some comfort during these times. We have a dedicated full grounds team on hand who are committed to the upkeep of the beautiful 27 acres of grounds here at Fanhams, however I do apologise you found some areas lacking attention on your stay, please be assured we do have specific schedules of work and tasks which we follow throughout the year which includes weed spraying. Thank you again for sharing your experience, we hope to welcome you back again soon.

At £167 a night, I was expecting more than an adequate room. It is basic to say the least. The plug sockets are in such awkward place - none near the mirror - and those pointless extendable cords on the hairdryer just don't reach far enough. Short of moving furniture from the side of the bed to reach a plug, I wish I had packed my own - which brings me back to the £167 a night. Whilst staff were pleasant, the hotel is tired - over tired. There is just shoddy work left undone. The Japanese garden is more like an overgrown, unkempt garden. The Japanese tea house is abandoned and ready to fall down - absolutely covered in cob webs. One of the ponds has no pump to oxygenate the water, so it is clogged and so covered with weed, it looks like a plastic cover. The food was great - but the 2nd night we were told we couldn't have dinner in the restaurant, as there was a wedding on - 1 of the 4 over the weekend we stayed. As a result, hotel guests are simply surplus as they attend really to the wedding parties. I was so excited to stay here, as the photos made it look stunning - lots of those photos on the web site, especially the gardens, are years old. And if you have mobility issues, forgetting walking the gardens, the brickwork will break your ankles. If it wasn't for the company I had, I would have left. Utterly underwhelming and disappointing. There is a sign that says "Fitness at Fanhams" - but don't be fooled - it's another abandoned building. And a Karaoke Klub - also suspiciously silent. Spend your money up the road at the other hotel

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following your recent stay with us which made some disappointing reading. I do apologise for the frustration you had with the hairdryer and electric sockets in the room, I have asked my Head Housekeeper to review this in each room and where this is perhaps an issue we will change the hairdryers with a longer straight cord, thank you for highlighting this. We are extremely proud of our grounds here at Fanhams Hall. Within the 27 acres we have so much to explore from Formal Gardens, Fruit Orchards, Queen Anne Gardens, Pinetum, Wildflower Meadows, Wisteria Walk, and our a listed Japanese Garden. The Japanese Tea House stands centrally to the garden and is a two storey timber-framed weatherboard construction built in 1900 please be assured it is structurally sound and in no way abandoned and is within our planned maintenance schedules. The Japanese garden itself is made up of a rare variety of Japanese trees and shrubs such as Maples and Catalpa, the Fox lake does have a waterfall which oxygenates the water which I can confirm is working and operating we do however turn this off from time-to -time when the water levels drop which perhaps was the case on your visit. We have pathways which link most of the gardens, the majority of which are pea-shingle, we provide a grounds map at reception from the Guest Services Team so it is regrettable we didn't get one to you which would have highlighted the more accessible routes. We consistently review and update our website so please be assured all photography is up to date and current. I am pleased you enjoyed dining with us on the first night of your stay, it is regrettable the times offered to you for dining on the second night weren't convenient for you, we would always recommend making dining reservations in advance to avoid disappointment. We have a Fitness area over two adjacent rooms which include a treadmill, exercise bikes, rowing machines and other relevant equipment I am unclear as to why you believed this to be an abandoned area, I have highlighted to my Guest Services Team to ensure we make our guests more aware of this facility. The Karaoke Klub at Fanhams is a completely self-contained Karaoke Bar which is a pre-booked facility we offer to events big and small, nothing suspicious that it was silent, it just simply wasn't in use at the time. Thank you again for your feedback.

We were treated by our son and daughter in law to a stay at fanhams. The hotel was amazing , we had a wander around the interior and could’t get over how fabulous it was. The grounds were so interesting too especially the Japanese and Swiss cottages ! The room was lovely and comfortable and we had a great nights sleep We ate from the bar menu the fish and chips were very tasty and they catered wonderfully for my eating preferences. A delicious gluten free beef burger served with skin on fries. Very filling. Overall a great stay in a very special hotel

A sensational hotel which oozes history and is set in beautiful grounds. The family room was a good size, the highlight being the multi-jet shower. Good choice of complementary hot drinks sachets and biscuits and I was surprised to see gluten-free biscuits included for my dietary needs. We ate in the bar for our evening meal and I enjoyed a delicious homemade burger that more than catered for my dietary needs. My husband had the lamb burger which again was delicious. My daughter had the steak which was cooked perfectly to her request. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be returning.

Had our wedding at Fanhams and it was absolutely amazing! The staff could not have been anymore attentive, accommodating or friendly. Everyone was always on hand at all times, could not fault any of them!!!! The grounds are stunning! Bedrooms are beautiful (although a tad warm!) The honeymoon suite is out of this world! So big, beautiful views and everything you could need! We really did have the best wedding and Fanhams really did make this possible! Thank you so much!
