I booked this hotel via booking.com because it advertised free cancellation
I cancelled very shortly after booking, was told by booking.com there would be no charge but the hotel deducted 30% from my credit card. I contacted the hotel by email but have had no response

Just stayed the one night with friends, purpose of the visit was to go for a jolly and a change of scenery. On arrival gave us our room keys, on entering one of the rooms it had not been cleaned, went back to the reception, gave us another key but only had a twin room and was told to push the beds together, no problem. Went out in the surrounding area had a few beers in the numerous bars where free tapas were served with the drinks. The hotel did exactly as it said on the tin, ideal for a cheap stay over, room absolutely adequate for our requirements. Only live half an hour away but would return.

We were a party of 5 who stayed for 1 week in June.
The rooms are small but clean, and cleaned every day, no balcony!! we had to move on of our beds to open the bathroom door, air conditioning was very hit and miss, would wake up during the night alternating between being hot and cold!! I have to say all 5 of us agreed that we didn't have a decent nights sleep between us. As soon as we saw how much the breakfast was we gave it a miss (10 Euro's!!) there are better restaurants on the front that are much cheaper, we found a little gem of a café across the road from the entrance to the air base, the lady didn't speak English but we managed between us to end up with a fantastic breakfast for next to nothing. The owner at the hotel was very unhelpful and on a couple of occasions we witnessed him shouting at his staff!!
There is no lounge or anywhere to sit other than outside where you are expected to order something if you sit down.
They have posters advertising various scooters, bicycles etc which we enquired about only to be told they only have 2 adult and 1 child bicycles.
On our last day we had a problem with our safe and it took them all afternoon to find another key for it, when we asked to keep one of our rooms on for shower etc on our last day they charged us 50 Euro's even thought we had only paid 32 per night!! If there hadn't of been 5 of us we would not have bothered! We also arranged with them to organise us a taxi for airport which was really late in arriving which resulted in 2 of our party getting a lift of the new receptionist as they were going to miss their flight!!
This could be a really nice hotel with a few alterations as it is a prime location, there are nicer hotels overlooking the beach for just a little bit more which have balconies and better value for money. Real shame

I have stayed here before and whilst cleanish I came back again as was good for a basic hotel. This time the staff had their children with them and let them run riot at all times of the day. Also guests in a nearby room were allowed to smoke marijuana. Tried a siesta and all I heard was the staff arguing with guests. Clearly all trying to be loudest. Not sure who at fault but do it in a constructive way. Ruined a peaceful get away. Oh and Internet is hit and miss. TV has no picture just sound. Disappointed so will go elsewhere in future.

My friend and I arrived at the hotel about 10pm only to find the hotel didn't have our booking for 5 nights. We were totally shocked as we had already called ahead to try and book a cab from the airport so he knew to English girls were staying that night. Also 60 euros had also been taken from my friends card. Luckily we had printed our confirmation through hotels.com but he was adamant there we no rooms and no availability. He also repeatedly said he did not use this company. We called Hotels.com who tried to talk to him but he doesn't speak any English so refused to discuss anything with them. We were forced to leave the hotel and look for somewhere else to stay. By this time it was very late and all the hotels were full because of the Fiesta. Luckily we found the hotel Ribera who could not have been more helpful and found us a room. Hotels.com have also tried their best to help.

This has got to be the worst hotel in spain we had booked for a week on arrival they requested full payment the otherwise we would have walked out the following day we had a 90 year old lady with us the we had no hot water for 3 days and was not informed if the problem until we complained once fixed we had hot water for one day. we were charged a daily rate for a hair dryer. Breakfast was included which was made up of one slice of toast with jam. then then day we were leaving we needed the room for a extra couple of hours for the elderly lady to rest before being picked up and we were charged extra again. anybody who wants to stop here needs the head examined we are going to complain to booking.com we are so pissed off with the place I am writing this before leaving only for having my partners mother with us I would have told them what to do with this hotel absolutely disgraceful I wont give it a mark

Booked this hotel on Booking.com for its great price and closeness to Airport, the room was ok, apart from no balcony, the servicing of the room was a bit slap-dash and when we enquired about food we were told the restaurant was closed, so unavailable for our 4 night stay. The day before we were due to leave the hotel, we were packing our suitcase and the maid/cleaner knocked on the door and asked if we needed the room cleaned, we said not today thank you. We returned to the room later in the afternoon and noticed that she had been in our room and changed one bath towel and moved a few things around, but hadn’t done anything else, no cleaning, no beds made, nothing, we thought this was odd but didn’t attach any importance to it. When we returned home and unpacked our suitcase we found that two cartons of cigarettes (400) were missing, so she effectively stole £77 from us, she obviously changed that towel in order to wrap the cigarettes in it, We have holidays in Spain about twice a year and have never had any reason to distrust the maids who service the rooms, so either avoid this hotel, or make sure you lock everything up when your out and about, such a shame.

Outside this hotel are pictures of food, beware we asked for 6 English breakfasts, man was very angry & rude, the place was empty, after an hour 1 breakfast came out,
Eggs, chips, bacon & sausage, 40 mins later mushrooms & beans came out on a
separate plate with another breakfast, followed by another 20mins for the last three.
We tried to charge us 10 euros each, I took him to the picture outside showing a lovely breakfast, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, black pudding & beans, he lowered the bill to
48 euros, it was an awful expirence and have never come across such awful manners in such a lovely part of Spain, please avoid

Clean rooms. Great friendly staff. 2 minutes walk to a very big beach. Lots of good restaurants and bars around. Food in the hotel is good too and good prices. Highly recommended. A nice area to visit and ferry to la manga is also 2 minutes away. Mar menor is great for kids to swim. Very calm.Weather is still goid for late October 25 to 30 degrees. Hotels is also very close to the airport so taxi is cheap.

As always I will give honest feedback.

The price of the hotel I thought was very reasonable, until I actually got there then I know why.

The rooms are very basic and pretty poor, there was a very bad smell of sewage in the corridors and the rooms. Which there was an attempt to hide the smell with an automatic air fresher in the hall way, which didn't help.

The shower had a mind of its own and would go down to a basic dribble if you was the last one in building to use it.

There was no bed covers other than a very thin sheet, and as a previous review stated the air conditioning was pre set and couldn't be altered so in early hours of the morning it was freezing. So much so my partner now has a bad chest and cold as a result.

We didn't eat at the hotel as the prices where over priced for the servings, we looked at the waiters serving the food and the price board.

Also it states car parking available on nearby streets, all I can say is goodluck with that as it a free for all.

Also one day I managed to park outside the hotel only to watch the waiter bouncing his car off my car and the one in front bumpers to park up.

The rooms are cleaned daily, unless your in them. Then if you ask to wait a minute while you vacate the room for them, they go away and don't come back. They don't clean on Sundays seems rooms don't get dirty on that day.

The hotel is in a very good position and is 2 minutes from a lovely beach.

Would I visit this hotel again or recommend it ? Not a chance keep your money.

Santiago de la Ribera could be a really nice place for a holiday destination, but it has it all wrong. Overpriced shops with overpriced restaurants, with very little customer care and in fact wherever possible they try and get away with not giving you the offers and charging full price..... nice try....
