Honestly, Angaga is one of the best resorts I've stayed in the Maldives so far! It is not a fancy luxury property but provides all the amenities you need for a relaxing vacation.

We booked this resort last minute so we did not have time for deep research, but we were not disappointed at all. The main reason to come to Angaga was the house reef; we read mixed reviews about it but I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. The reef is recovering well, you can see newly grown corals everywhere and lots of sea life: we have seen nurse sharks, black tips sharks, white tips sharks, turtles and groups of eagle rays every day beside the common fish species.

We stayed in one of the sunrise-side beach houses (nr 107) which was just perfect for us since the house was right in front of villa. The house was clean and comfortable with an outside seating area and swing. There were some ants in the bathroom when it was raining at night, but it is normal in the tropics and ants spray was provided. The water villas looked a bit outdated, but the ones on the sunset side are currently under renovation and will be completely renewed by the end of the year.

The staff is accommodating without being pushy or disturbing you in any way. Special thanks to the guys at the reception who are always there to assist in case you have any questions or need help, to the chefs at the restaurant who prepare amazing food day by day and to the guys in the bar (especially to Zafran) who serve delicious cocktails in minutes! We'll be back!

We stayed here 5 years ago and requested to be on the lagoon side as this was where we were before. We got a room where we wanted, which was great-just a couple of rooms along from where we were before.
When we went before the north eastern side had virtually no beach, but now in 2023 this side now has a lovely wide beach. There is some loss on the lagoon/water bungalow side but not as bad as it was on the other side 5 years ago.
They still have the budgies flying free all over the place, but we think regarding the Macaws that they should have a much larger cage so they can fly around properly. The cage they are in is too small for 2 such large birds. Angaga management please consider doing this.
The room was as we remembered and we much prefer the indoor bathrooms to the outside ones on most of the other islands we have been to. Using the bathroom in the middle of the night is not a pleasant experience when open to the elements and wildlife! I also find the heat in outside bathrooms counter productive so that once you have showered and feel clean and fresh, before you get back into the rooms you are hot and sticky again! Please don't ever change to outside bathrooms Angaga!!
The bars and restaurant were also much as we remembered.
We could always find something we both liked in the restaurant, but feel the choices were a bit lacking at times. They don't due themed nights like other places we have stayed and it would have been nice to have some more specific Maldivian dishes on offer more often.
We loved going to the sundown bar after dinner as it was nice and quiet and you usually got a nice breeze there too.
We felt that the reef seemed to be recovering with lots of new growth and plenty of fish too. We saw turtle, black & white tipped reef sharks, octopus, batfish, eel, Anemone fish etc. etc. We did see some rays, but not when we were snorkelling unfortunately.
Keep up the good work Angaga and maybe we'll come and see you again soon

This was the third time we visited Angaga Island. What a beautiful place, even a few weeks later when writing this review, I still remember the holiday with pleasure. We booked half-board, i.e. breakfast/dinner and this was plenty with a super buffet and great service.
We never used our shoes or sandals in the 10 days, with the sand being cleaned daily. Staff at reception was very helpful and polite. The bars were good and surprisingly not overly expensive.
Angaga also offers decent excursions, we participated in the fishing and the snorkelling one.

Now to the not so good parts.... sadly, the reef population has reduced significantly since our last visit which is not a complete surprise. Although Angaga is trying to build artificial reefs, which is very good in itself, access to the reef for snorkelling is rather difficult as the reef is rather high up and the danger to injure yourself therefore increased.
We stayed in the "old" water bungalows (there are some new versions available too), which are lovely inside, and being stood up on wooden posts. It was shocking to see the state of these posts due to water damage. It was shocking as it looked they could collapse when you jump inside the bungalow. I am not comfortable to stay in one of those again.
Apart from the health risk, even if imagined by us, we heard from staff that Angaga plans to build more water bungalows. We therefor also feel the atmosphere of a small "barefoot" island is going to be ruined, so we sadly said our goodbyes. But thanks again for all the great times we had there.

Pro :
1. Nice ocean water and full of wildlife.

2. Nice sunrises and sunsets.

3. Silence , that some may need.

Cons:

1. Dirty bath and dirty overall resort. Improper dining place and reception.

2. Cockroaches around= lack of sanitation.

3.Improper way of cooking, improper use of tools, lack of sanitation measures and quality of the job.
We booked all inclusive, but expresso is not free. They do not cook whole fish. Lobster and shrimps costs about 150$ extra.( In a word, is not worth it)

4. Old and needs refurbishing a.s.a.p. as well a proper training for staff in many areas.

5. They don't seemed to be friendly( workers) nor focused on the customer experience.

6. Value wise is not worth at all the distance, the fact that is a 3* resort.

7.Never again, even if is free. You are way better in Dubai, Zanzibar, Dominican Republic and so on. Don't waste your time and money.

Angaga is a small island with wonderful nature. My husband and I were accommodated in the beach house and we were happy with it. Her number is 114. First, they gave us house number 119, in front of which there is a large sewage pipe, and after 2 hours of discussion and my hysteria, they agreed to give us another accommodation. That's the only thing that was wrong on Angaga. On one part of the island, there are sandbags and that pipe (the left side of the picture), and it's not right to offer accommodation in front of them, and that's what they give to everyone first. As for the food, it is delicious, I don't know what I would prefer, extra. Parrots fly around you, crabs sit on the beach, sardine fish in the sea around you. I would repeat Angagau only with the guarantee that they would not offer me accommodation near the sewage pipe.

The hotel is not worthy of 5 stars, the rooms are very old, the walls are cracked, the doors are broken, there are also cockroaches. If your house falls on the side where there is almost no water in the ocean, you have to walk to the other side to enter the water or go to the pool which is one and with very few sunbeds, if you struggle to get one. There is a tennis court, but it is only for STAFF, there is a children's corner, but it is open until 5 pm, after that there is nothing for the children to do in the complex, there is a pool table that is always occupied .The food is shocking, it is only for Asians and Indians, for Europeans there is almost no fruit, almost no vegetables, vegetables too. Grill with spices only for Indians and the grill is once a week. If you miss breakfast or lunch scheduled as a time, you can eat but you will you pay for it, it doesn't matter that you are all inclusive, if you want an alcoholic drink other than the small assortment, you will pay for it. There is an a la carte restaurant, you have the right to order one dish if you want something extra, as my daughter only eats fries you will pay for them. There is no entertainment on the island in the evening as well as during the day.

As a big family trip ( with 2 small kids)  we decided to choose Angaga Island Resort. I'll make short review:

1. Rooms are comfortable and very clean ( 2 times per day cleaned),
2. Food - we had All inclusive, breakfast is like in most hotels the same every day, lunch and dinner are very delicious and fresh prepared with each day changing.
3. Service - everything was really good, from arriving till end everyone was pleasant and helpful.

The only big remark is the fact that you leave your room at 12h and your All inclusive package stops there. Meaning if you have evening flight (transfer) you are not able to drink or eat anything for that time. I think that should be  included like in every All inclusive resort where we were.

So we recommend this Resort, also for family with kids that love sea, playing in sand or snorkeling.
Thank you for lovely vacation!

We have just come back from the Angaga Island and would like to share our opinion about this resort.

You will feel welcome from your very first minute in the island and it will not change until the last day of your stay there.

Everyone knows that the Maldives is about picturesque views, wonderful nature and so on… but for us it will always be about fantastic people too… All the staff members work very hard but they remain smiling and extremely friendly. In particular, we will never forget Asad, who was perfectly taking care of us during meals, serving our favorite coffee and wine of our choice. Furthermore, if you decide to visit this island, do not forget to go to a local shop and have a short conversation with Ripun who works there - he will happily advise you what to choose as a perfect gift…

Lastly, if you ever decide that diving is your thing - do not hesitate to start your adventure with Katja Schlegel, from a local diving school. Both of us did the Padi OWD course with her and it was something unforgettable…

We will greatly miss Angaga and hopefully return one day…

Kasia & Robert from Poland

My booking was cancelled as managemt decision for South Asian countries where all the resorts are accepting Indians. I had made a booking in advance with a fantastic deal for advance booking. Suddenly they came out with this rule and cancelled my booking so that they can sell those rooms at higher tariff.

It was an amazing experience! We were greeted nicely, everyone was attentive to our needs. The guys at the front desk did everything for us, when we needed them.
The only thing I can complain about, was the cleanliness of our room. I guess it depends on who is doing the cleaning. Our guy, didn’t do a good job. I told him once to clean under the bed, but it was just that one time. In the shower, in the drain, there was still hair from the people before us. Not once, he took it. My husband did it for me. I complained about this in the survey note they gave us to fill out. I guess they didn’t read it, otherwise they would’ve have it done.
The restaurant had good food, something different every night.
One thing that bothered us and all the guests (I asked everyone I could) is that they’re building a pool, which makes no sense at all. We chose this place because it had no pool. It’s going to loose the feeling that you’re living in a small jungle. I’m not sure if we’re coming back again here because of the pool. You don’t need a pool when you’ve got the whole Indian Ocean for yourself.
The reef is beautiful, you can still see where the Tsunami hit 20 years ago. I guess it’s still recovering. In the 20 first minutes we were snorkeling, we saw a turtle and a black tip shark. The colors of the corals are beautiful and the marine life is abundant.
All in all, we had an amazing time and we are thankful for it!

What is the cost of the seaplane transfer? Is that something you pay out-of-pocket upon arrival?

I booked the trip as a package and the seaplane flight was included in the price. For the flight with the seaplane are 20 kg + 5 kg hand luggage free. For each additional kilogram, 3 USD must be paid locally.
