The two of us stayed 3 nights at Moresby Hall in the Cubby Lodge. We were checked in by Jane efficiently and were given a bottle of hand sanitiser on arrival. Hand sanitiser readily available in the communal areas. The building itself is absolutely beautiful and very well maintained. We stayed in the Cubby Lodge at the rear which was one bedroomed self contained and ground floor. On entering there is an open living areas with sofa and TV and a kitchen. The kitchen was fully equipped and the best I have seen for self catering accommodation. A spacious bathroom with a walk in shower/bath. A double bedroom with vanity table. Just felt everything was really well thought out in terms of plug points by beds, plenty of lighting, fresh clean bed linen, toiletries supplied and towels. We didn't have breakfast at Moresby Hall however the fact that this was an option that could be added flexibly for self catered accommodation was fantastic (same with booking dinner). Jane was really helpful in letting us know where we could get supplies etc and was on hand for any questions. We really enjoyed our stay here and would most definitely like to visit again in the future.

Thank you for your review of our one bed room apartment. It is a peaceful location at the rear of the hall, one of the first of the barns to be renovated. Being accessible and having parking directly outside is convenient for all ages. Its surprisingly spacious and as you say, the flexibility of breakfast or dinner in Moresby Hall is welcomed if you don't want to self cater. We purposely made the kitchen very functional with dishwasher / washing machine as some guests stay for a week or more on occasion. Its lovely to know you would choose to revisit and I hope you will return one day to continue exploring our wonderful Western Lake District. Best wishes - Jane

Four of us were doing the C2C cycle ride and stayed at Moresby Hall for one night.

The building is really impressive and you can feel the history of it.

Jane and David are excellent hosts and can’t do enough for you. Dinner was excellent as was breakfast. Again nothing was too much trouble.

The rooms are comfy and during this COVID-19 pandemic we all felt safe. Hand sanitizers were dotted around the place and there was a small one given to you on arrival.

A lovely place to stay. Thank you Jane and David.

My wife an I last visited Moresby Hall on Friday the 7th August.
We have been visiting Moresby Hall for some years now and even though we live locally we have had the occasional stay over.
Jane and David have always been welcoming and accomadating. It is always a pleasure going there as the food is exceptional.
We have always been impressed with our visits and stays at the Hall, so much so that we held our silver wedding reception there a few years ago. David, Jane and all the staff pulled out all the stops to make it the success it was, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and even talk about it still to this day. In this day of Covid-19 Jane and David have gone to the enth degree with regards to cleanliness, layout of the Hall and even having staggered bedrooms so as guests don't clash.
The seating arrangements in the dining room have also been well thought out. There is plenty of hand sanitiser available and although the seats are cloth they have a turn around system so as seats are never used twice in 48 hours, which we thought was amazing of our hosts to be so thorough.
Anyway, we recommend Moresby Hall as a venue once visited always visited.

Kind regards, James and Lynn Tyson

Thank you for taking the time to post a comprehensive review. Its great to know you were so happy with your visit again, despite the various new procedures for guests. Luckily the majority of visitors are appreciating the steps we have taken to adapt to Covid-19 and welcoming the benefits for the safety of staff and themselves. A few people have assumed life is as normal because they are booked to stay but for now some features must be adapted to the current pandemic such as room servicing, breakfast & dinner service etc But the feedback has been excellent that the welcome and ambience at Moresby Hall is nevertheless unchanged. One thing that is perfect for your own space is our beautiful walled garden, an ideal spot for a drink al fresco by yourselves. Best wishes to you both - Jane

Spent 3 nights here in August.
Mainly the food was good.
Quite a good breakfast buffet and reasonable choice of cooked.
On the first night I had the sticky maple pork belly. The pork belly was cooked ok but did not have a crisp crackling crust and it was neither sticky or tasting of maple.
It was served with a calvados ju which was thin and tasteless, the bubble and squeak had so much mustard in it overpowered everything. It should have been
served with vegetables which were forgotten and arrived half way through the meal. The veg consisting of mushroom, tomato, peppers and aubergine looked like it had been microwaved to death.
Chicken roulade was lovely, soup was lovely, sea trout and prawns was lovely.
The second night we both had steak which were well cooked, tender and tasty. The chips were yummy, however the the vegetables were the same as the previous night, overcooked and not appetising. With a steak a portion of peas and carrots would be much more welcome.
We weren't going to leave a review but we were so disappointed with breakfast service on the third morning we changed our mind.
We ate our cereal and cooked breakfast arrived. Cereal bowls left on the table. Cooked breakfast eaten and toast ordered. Toast arrived. Cereal bowls and breakfast plates remain on the table. Asked twice for butter. Butter arrived. All the dirty plates still on the table. All through out breakfast the waiter visited or passed our table and failed to remove the dirty plates and bowls.

The actual cooked breakfast was mainly ok except the beans. Don't spoil a breakfast by trying to save a few pence using cheap tasteless beans.

The room itself was spacious but all felt a little bit tired. Sadly what really let the room down was the cleanliness or actually the lack of cleanliness.
Cobwebs in the bathroom, shower enclosure black mold and grime and sadly the four poster bed was thick with dust. There can be no excuses for this. I also do not think that bedside tables made from chipboard have a place in any hotel room, never mind aa 5 star grade 1 listed building.

Naturally I am sorry to see the negative points in your review. I note you say mainly the food was good but I see there were some disappointments with the roasted vegetables served on our August menu. I am especially sorry you experienced poor service with breakfast, no excuse for tables not being cleared. Regrettably we had new young staff on duty still in training and the busy bank holiday Monday morning overpowered them a bit. Guests didn't come for breakfast at the agreed times and this meant tables were not able to be made ready quickly enough. This should have been attended to, of course, and our reviews for breakfast are usually excellent. We were aware of this at the time but couldn't rectify it quickly enough so its very disappointing to see how poor this was perceived on your final day. It seems the other two days were satisfactory so you should have rightly expected the same level of attention. The bedside tables are covered in bespoke fabric to match the bedcover and voile cloths and were included as they are the correct height for the tall four poster beds. Normal bedside tables are far too low. Regards - Jane

We had a terrific stay to mark my partner's birthday. The huge room was cosy as well as gracious, and the bathroom with its massage shower and Tile tv was amazing. Our hosts could not have been kinder, particularly in dealing with our luggage (we were travelling on public transport - if you're planning on doing that, bear in mind that the walk up from Parton station is practically vertical ;-) ), and their Covid hygiene measures were very reassuring. It must be such a hard juggling act to keep guests feeling both safe and at the same time relaxed, and we'd like to congratulate Jane and David for managing this process both with aplomb and with a smile.

Lovely comments like yours make everything so worthwhile for our team and ourselves. It has been a challenge adapting to COVID but the feedback for our procedures has been overwhelmingly positive. Like many establishments, we have just had to view the guidelines, assess our venue and implement all that we would wish for ourselves under the circumstances. We were very happy to collect your luggage at the station so you could continue your day unencumbered, if we can do so we're especially glad to help with small tasks like this for our guests. I'm delighted your birthday surprise was a happy and relaxed one and hope to welcome you again one day. Best wishes - Jane

I was travelling around the north of England with my friend on our motorbikes and decided we would aim for whitehaven for an overnight stop. We arrived in the town at 5pm Friday and were horrified that no town centre hotels had availability. Moresby hall showed availability on booking.com so we booked it and headed straight there on the bikes. When we arrived due to short notice the room configuration we wanted (twin) wasnt available but the hosts were very friendly and accommodating and asked us to wait whilst they out a sofa bed up in the room so we could stay without actually sharing a bed. The apartment was fine, very clean and we were made to feel very welcome.
The owner offered to take us into town for dinner which was a really nice gesture and they also helped with restaurant recommendations. Breakfast on Saturday morning was delicious and freshly cooked, leaving us to get on the road early for the remainder of our tour.
Last thought, the hotel is in a very quiet part of the town and was very peaceful, we also felt our bikes were safe in the secluded car park away from prying eyes. Wonderful stay, excellent hosts and I will bring my family back here without question.

How lovely to receive your positive review. It was such a busy weekend but we just had one room available (Munro) which has a super king double and sofa bed. If we have 24 hrs notice, in the morning our housekeepers can configure four of our super king rooms as twin rooms for arrival later. Luckily the sofa bed with sprung mattress sufficed. We have good off road private parking and electric car chargers. We're happy to run guests into town if we can to dine out, its less than 2 miles and an economical taxi ride back. Tips for booking - book direct on our own website for the best prices / offers.

Great Hotel with very attentive owners David & Jane. Opted for Copeland Suite which benefits from huge Four Poster and Jacuzzi Bath. Room size was huge and appointed very well. Liked the size of the bed....... Need a bus journey to get round it 😁.

Lovely building with emphasis on its age and style but modern enough in areas. Breakfast was lovely on our weekend stay.
Overall was impressed. A list of places to eat are available and we tried three whilst there. Room was clean and wanted for nothing, slight threaded towel in bathroom which possibly needs discarding but maintenance / cleaning team would pick up on this.
Nice safe parking ( choose to exit close to EV charging points as road can be hard to judge at front point)

Would definitely stay again 👍🏼

We really appreciate your lovely comments and are delighted you had such a happy short break with us. The Copeland room probably has one of the largest four poster beds in the county, I'll have to do some research on that! With the Jacuzzi bath en-suite and colour TV to watch from the bath en-suite it usually ticks all the boxes. Thank you for the note about the towel, yes, our housekeeping should remove any that have been damaged, I'll let them know to check. We do all our own laundry in house which has been important to me especially with the pandemic, so we can ensure the best hygiene and compliance. I hope we can welcome you both again one day. Best wishes - Jane

After a rather spontaneous last minute booking we arrived at Morseby Hall and were immediately struck by the beauty of its setting. The Hall itself is striking and the surrounding gardens are well tended.

We were met at the door by David and Jane who made us feel welcome and explained the processes that had been put in place due to the covid 19 pandemic. I was personally very impressed with these procedures, it is clear that a lot of thought has gone into how well guests are safeguarded not only in public areas but in your room also.

I was equally pleased to be informed that our room had been upgraded, a very kind gesture. The room itself was spacious, immaculately clean and well equipped with a TV, a hydro shower, a comfortable bed and drink making facilities to mention a few.

After a wonderful night's sleep we made our way down to breakfast and opted for the full English- it was absolutely delicious!

We plan to return in the very near future and I would highly recommend booking a room here should you be in the area.

We are delighted to receive such a lovely positive review and especially glad to know you were so comfortable, despite it being an exceptionally busy weekend. The procedures took some time to work out, in common with many owner managed businesses its trial and error but the majority of our guests have wholeheartedly praised what is in place. There are just a few things which have had to be adapted but if guests appreciate the reasons and assist in complying there is nothing at all to spoil the unique ambience and welcome. Luckily we have plenty of space, lovely walled gardens to sit in and enjoy and table spacing for breakfast / dinner is working well. We hope you will choose to visit again one day if you are in the area. Kindest regards - Jane

We stayed overnight at Moresby Hall as a short break and to see family and it did not disappoint. Would definitely recommend the venue to anyone who is looking for somewhere to stay. We stayed in one of the four poster rooms with a shower and my future in laws stayed in the four poster room with the jacuzzi bath. We all found our rooms more than met our expectations, my future in laws wanted to take the bath home with them as they loved it so much. Moresby hall has so much character about it,and the owners are very friendly and cannot do enough for you including ordering taxis into town. It is simply wonderful place to stay, a hidden gem, which is why we have chosen to have our wedding at this venue next year.

How lovely to see your great review. Moresby Hall is a wonderful venue for the smaller wedding where exclusive use enables the unique ambience and intimacy to come into its own for such a special day. Planning or amending wedding arrangements during this pandemic have been stressful for couples, but by keeping a flexible approach we are ensuring everyone will have a special day to cherish. I'm glad your future in-laws liked the room with the Jacuzzi bath, a touch of luxury with the colour TV in the en-suite bathroom. Your 2021 wedding date will soon be here and we will ensure its a day to remember. Best wishes - Jane

Think of Moresby Hall as a luxury B&B - it feels like you’re staying in a home rather than a hotel. Jane and David are wonderful hosts. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need. The bathroom had an amazing shower.
Breakfast was very good and dinner (pre arranged) was excellent - taste, presentation and service! The hotel does not offer lunch so plan ahead. Jane was so accommodating preparing an early breakfast for us when we left for London
This is a great location for visiting the Lake District but being away from the crowds.
The free car charging was an added bonus.
I would definitely recommend this property and would love to return.

Actually there is a train station at PARTON village just before the main Whitehaven station but you have to notify the conductor that you want the train to stop there. If you are able to walk it is 5 - 10 minutes but there is a small hill. Phil675 is also correct you can get a taxi from Whitehaven less than 2 miles away at approx £5 / £6 - once you arrive there are also buses on the main road A595 to any other destinations
