Truly lovely place, with an onsite bar and beer garden, and the en suite family room up top was just aces. Charming hosts, as well. And cooked vegan breakfast on top of it all! Enjoyed, and recommended.

I originally booked a room here back in March. In June out of the blue I received an e mail cancellation. Most inconvenient as this was part of a two week programme walking the SWCP and luggage transfers were all arranged. I phoned The Durbeyville for an explanation and was told there was a residential art class and the room was double booked. To their credit, we were given the apartment at the same price as a room which I thought at the time was a result. However when we turned up the apartment was actually just a bedroom and bathroom, the living area was given over to the art class. Although the bathroom was nice the bedroom itself not so. The decor is dated, the furniture also, and the room smelled fusty. Very dimly lit and drab, and very disappointing. Over priced for the facilities. The following morning I received a great put down. As we walked into the breakfast room an older lady, who turned out to be the art class tutor, greeted us with a bright “good morning” before she realised we were not part of her art class and her face dropped like a stone! Our stay was redeemed somewhat by the cooked breakfast, which was very nice. Simon was quite friendly and attentive, Ruta clearly pre-occupied with her artist audience. Quite disappointing overall, won’t be returning, especially at the prices charged

Response from The Durbeyfield Guest house, Owner at Durbeyfield Guest House
Responded 24 Sept 2023
Thank you for your review but I don’t understand what are you complaining about- it was clearly explained to you that we had no rooms available for your dates but you begged to stay with us because you were walking and didn’t want to cancel even with plenty of notice. You did inconvenience the art class as you should not have been there but we tried to put up with you but it turns out you wanted the special treatment.I am glad you are not coming back!

Lovely stay in the Guest House. Clean room with soft beds and fluffy pillows. The en-suite shower room was a bit cramped. It would help if the hand basin was a smaller one to allow access to the toilet without contorting oneself. Great freshly cooked full English breakfast with all the trimmings which could be ordered in advance on a helpful ticksheet. So little wastage. Friendly staff explained how things worked. No lift so not recommended if you have mobility difficulties. Free car park with plenty of spaces. Great location to visit the pubs and restaurants in quirky West Bay.

We had room 8 , it was very dirty on the carpet with stains and fluff and crumbs at the end of both beds not been hovered properly for a long time ,. The bed nearest the window had broken curtain hooks an old felt tip pen and a pile of fluff all along the skirting board not been cleaned in months. The shower tray was stained and the shower was lukewarm or cold, the bathroom cupboard shelf was so covered in dust we couldn’t put our wash gear in it. luckily the bedding was very clean and white . The stairs were also very messy . There was a ketchup bottle in the breakfast room that looked disgusting so we wouldn’t use it . The breakfast was very good .

We booked this as a last minute weekend away as I spent alot of time in Westbay when I was younger.. Location was excellent, right in the harbor/bay - great restaurants nearby and the beach is minutes away. Such a friendly welcome and was able to park my car a couple of hours before check in. Bed was very comfy, rooms very clean. Breakfast was 10/10 and staff were great. Especially would like to say thank you to Jojo who was just fabulous. Will be back for sure, thanks again. See you soon!

Had a 2 day break at this amazing and quaint guest house. In a great location only a few yards from the amazing beach, it offers a lovely cooked breakfast included as well as parking. The staff were really friendly, the rooms are quirky and very clean, and even bought a watercolour painting they had there on sale. We hope to return for another visit soon. Thankyou.

Room Tip: Was very busy over Easter time. Only downside was the amount of noisy motorbikes through the day.

Wonderful cosy little place on miserable March night. We were welcomed most warmly and the fabulous bar was a complete bonus for a drink before we went out. The room was simple, comfortable and not trying to be anything it wasn’t. Breakfast was out of this world and Jo Jo and Simon were attentive to our every need. Would certainly come again

Stayed one night and it was lovely. Location really good and breakfast was very nice. Comfy bed and clean room. If I had to say anything bad it would be that some of the furnishings are a bit dated but in a character place like this we didnt think it was an issue. Accepted a room with shared bathroom which was huge and just across the hall. All in all 5 stars for the price.

Can't fault our stay last weekend. We were a family group of 7 plus a dog. Jojo greeted us and showed us to our rooms and how to order breakfast. The rooms were clean and offered everything you could possibly need. This is not a boutique hotel, but is a genuinely clean, friendly and welcoming place to stay. Breakfast was lovely. Excellent location for West Bay with it's own carpark. Will definitely visit again.
