The charming Mankwe Tented Retreat is situated in a private concession on the doorstep of the game-rich Moremi Game Reserve. Tucked away in a grove of mopane trees and mysterious woodlands, this safari lodge sanctuary offers its visitors an unbeatable location close to both land and water-based safari activities. In 2016, after a devastating fire destroyed Mankwe Bush Lodge, the entire lodge was rebuilt from the ground up. The retreat is constructed from natural light wood, ensuring a sense of harmony with its forested surroundings. Architects have successfully merged the structure of the main area with the surrounding environment, carefully integrating natural materials with modern design elements such a clean lines, neutral colours, and soft lighting. In total, there are 10 tented suites. Tents are built on raised wooden platforms, each with their own private viewing deck. Expansive bedrooms offer a configuration of two twins or a king-sized bed. Bathrooms are ensuite with a shower, and offer breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness through the canvas windows. Guests can relax in the knowledge that each suite has a fan for cooling off during the sizzling summer months. The main area comprises a small swimming pool surrounded by wooden decking that flows through to various sheltered sections for relaxing and also has a dining section. Adjacent to this area is the boma. From here, a meandering wooden walkway winds its way to a second swimming pool section complete with wooden decking, sun loungers and an intimate pool bar. Another enclave breaks away from the central and pool area, and leads to a small relaxation lounge and games/reading area. Eager safari-goers can tailor-make their own activity schedule. Most guests opt for a full-day excursion into the Moremi Game Reserve, and boat cruises through the Okavango Delta’s reed-lined channels - provided the water levels are high enough. Game drives take place in Mankwe's concession, which includes 20 000 hectares of an additional traverse along the Khwai River where predators can be spotted.

This lodge was definitely one of our favourites on our trip. Beautiful, clean, private and elephants walking right by your back porch with amazing view of the landscape. Service and food excellent !! Highly recommend. In middle of nowhere which was the charm but with luxury … unbelievable truly.

Amazing experience in a place where nothing is too much trouble. The camp is an eco friendly camp to minimise impact on the environment. The initial briefing ensures that visitors are aware that electricity is provided by solar panels and that the water is high in mineral content and can be salty so must not be drunk - bottled water is always available in the tents and public areas. The camp has a great layout with location of tents and communal areas providing the best views of the waterhole and giving total privacy to guests. Pathways and walkways join all the areas. The luxury tents have large double beds, screened with mosquito nets and fans to help with high temperatures. The bathroom is spacious with the toilet screened off from the basins and shower. I loved showering with a view out over the bush, watching the animals roam. The buildings and tents are well maintained with no evidence of the usual spiders and bugs which are so common in the bush. We were welcomed by a giraffe drinking at the waterhole and had the joy of watching several herds of elephants with babies coming down to drink and wallow in the water hole to cool themselves down. On our last two nights, lions roared close to the camp. Great atmosphere created by an excellent management team and carefully selected staff - Washington at the bar had us in fits of laughter and the knowledge imparted by SK on animals, birds and vegetation on our game drives was top quality. SK's dogged determination to try to find the game which guests wanted to see was amazing - although it is impossible to ensure that all guests get to see exactly what they want..... after all it is down to nature and a case of being in the right place at the right time - seeing game is not a carefully managed show! John the manager was a great host and ran a happy team. The two chefs, Simon and OD, provided excellent food, which was so welcome after a day of game viewing with careful thought on variety and taste - amazing for a location so far from any supplier! Game drives had a variety of routes with options available to visit the memorable Moremi game park and take a ride on a mokoro. For the more local early morning drives, breakfast was provided at 6am prior to departure at 6.30. For the more distant locations, a packed breakfast and lunch were provided. We are already longing to return to beautiful Botswana and it's happy, kind people! Thanks to the whole team at Moremi for making our experience so memorable.

Mankwe Lodge is a beautiful place situated on the corner of Chobe and Moreni National Parks. It’s an excellent location for close encounters with wildlife, birds and nature. Johan and Yolande are wonderful hosts and their lovely team of caring employees take really good care of you. The guides for game drives are exceptionally knowledgeable and fun to learn from. The luxury tents are gorgeous and the camps are everything you need. The outdoor decks and lounges have pools, and the jewel of it all, view to a water hole that attracts elephants in large numbers in addition to ungulates and birds. All accompanied by a cooling breeze and a cold drink. A visit is highly recommended, regardless of budget.

We spent two nights in Mankwe Tented Retreat. The premises have been renewed during the pandemia and it is completely new. Beaufuly decorated and with a lot of spece. The staff is very helpful and kind. there were a lof of people cleaning and mantenining the place. The breakfast was enormus and the dinner was excellent. We did a game drive and our guide was with us nearly 12 hours in Moremi and did an excellent job. We spot most of the animals that we could see there. We slept in tents and they were more equipied that we expected. If we would go back again to Moremi or Chobe I would go to Makwee tented Retreat witout any doubt.

As we arrive at the Mankwe Bush Lodge we are welcomed by the owners and the staff. They show us around the base camp which looks stunning. The camp is clean and has very nice decorations. There are 2 swimming pools, a bigger one next to the restaurant and a smaller one with a view on the drinking pool. They then show us the way to our camping ground with our private bath room as we are the only ones there. Also the game drive that we booked last minute was amazing. Eske is a very skilled driver and he knew a lot about the behaviour of the animals and where to find them. He showed us loads of elephants, zebras, hippos, antilopes and giraffes. We also saw a few warthogs, african wild cats, waterbucks, buffalo and even a hyena! We only stayed here for one night, but if we ever come back to this area we would book some more nights! We definitely recommend this place to others!

We spent one night here camping before heading off into Moremi. The camping sites were nice but very separate from the lodge which meant it was difficult to access the facilities for us. We also didn’t find the staff very friendly. I would recommend South Gate over this in terms of camping.
