This was my first time to the Maldives and after some heavy duty research and much deliberating I decided to stay at the Waldorf Astoria. I managed to get a great deal with the 'live unforgettable' offer , which made it slightly more affordable as it was half board and included transfers! I’ll start off by saying , I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with choosing Waldorf as their resort whilst in Maldives, the experience from start to finish was unbelievable, simply superb!

I’ll start with the moment you get through passport control (which was surprisingly chaotic) then your journey with the Waldorf begins. You are swiftly greeted and whisked off with your bags being carried a few minutes away to wait for your boat ,and it arrives literally right outside the airport! We had a few other guests to wait for but the yacht was there and max we waited was 15 mins. Now this yacht is by no means ordinary or standard, it is a proper luxurious yacht with 3 bedrooms on board and Napa leather seating that are so soft to the touch, beautifully appointed with several viewing decks to watch the dolphins on your journey to the hotel. They have snacks and drinks served to you and it makes for the most wonderful luxurious start to your trip, which takes around 40 mins.

We arrived there early around 11/12 ish I think and were greeted by smiles and waves from the staff. You are swiftly taken off the boat and introduced to you personal concierge / butler for your entire trip, which was a really nice idea, made the whole process seamless. The property is stunning and bigger than one would expect , it has a separate private island too, but the sheer size of this place makes you understand how it holds 11 restaurants.

We had the entry water reef villa , the place was massive, I think around 3000 sq ft. Tastefully decorated with stunning bathroom, indoor and outdoor shower and a tub to die for. I loved the Aesop products, and notably the bathrobes were the softest I’ve ever encountered. Bed was super comfortable and we always got extra snacks and treats every turn down service, which were delicious! We even got a lovely fruit bowl and sweet treats with non alcoholic wine as we they knew we didn’t drink. The outdoor space is where the villa really shows off . A full sized almost 15 metre pool, 5 different options to lounge, swing beds in the shade and another in the shade, loungers in the pool and outside, and the nets over the water you are honestly spoilt for choice , all overlooking the crystal clear waters of the lagoon.

Zuma was by far the best dining experience and it such a stunning setting, it has all your usual favourite dishes and also great service. I like biking around the island, the free non motorised water sports, the gym was also outstanding. I had lower back pain and the trainers gave me one on one advice, Ahmed gave me helpful tips and was so friendly and kind. Elsa help me stretching everyday and invited me to yoga and meditation all of which are complimentary (the group classes) and she was mindful of my back pain throughout, was amazing to talk to and so knowledgable. Hazuki our personal concierge was a consummate professional as booked everything for us via WhatsApp , and met us everyday to check up on us and if we needed any assistance. Finally Mohan the restaurant manager at tasting table was so considerate and even prepared and come back soon breakfast arrangement. I forgot to mention breakfast is extraordinary, one of the best i’ve come across to date, service and choice are amazing, loved the fresh juices and protein shakes!

Honestly there is so much more one can write but overall I can’t sing the resorts praises enough, worth every penny and would love to return in a heartbeat, highly recommended!!

Stayed in a Beach Villa as a Hilton Diamond Member. Transfer from/to Airport was smooth and luxurious in a Princess 56. Greeted by our excellent Concierge (Sayyah) on landing and taken on a tour of the island by buggy on route to our Villa. This was without question the nicest room we have ever had anywhere. Huge space inside and out, very private and extremely relaxing, plus bottle of Fizz chilling when we arrived.
Housekeeping was provided by Abo who did a sterling job, always knowing when our room was empty to provide his excellent service.
Bikes were provided to get around which we used extensively. Dive Centre staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to assist. Communal pool area was a nice spot for a change of scenery and close to Nava Bar.
Swimming off the beach from our villa was a little difficult and harsh on the feet. Managed to snorkel a little though. Would probably recommend a boat trip to make the experience more enjoyable.
Afternoon Drinks courtesy of Hilton Honors status were very welcome and held in a pleasant environment with live music and attentive staff. In fact all the staff were extremely pleasant and I must mention Sofia, Maria and Anees who all went out of their way to look after us.
A variety of venues for Dinner are available and we eat at Li-Long twice (great setting and delicious food), The Ledge (disappointed in food offering and not up to the hype IMHO), Tasting Table (very quiet, wide selection of food) and In Villa Dining (very relaxed). Also went to Amber for Sunset Champagne.
Breakfast offered a huge selection with your choice of eggs served to the table.
The resort is clearly aiming to be the number one choice in the Maldives and it is certainly getting close. Would love to return at some point in the not too distant future.

The one sentence summary is that the quality of the resort/amenities/food and the impeccable service made our stay really enjoyable even though it stormed most of the time during our stay. We will definitely go back if we go back to Maldives.

The service during the stay was just impeccable. This includes our amazing personal concierge Shawki who took care of our very request, the twice-a-day room cleaning service that never missed a single thing, service at every meal, their thoughtful arrangements for us to celebrate both my birthday and our wedding anniversary, airport pickup/send-off, and honestly just with everything we do in the resort. The level of attention to detail was very impressive. They truly didn't miss anything. Our flight was very late on the last day and they extended our checkout to 9pm so that we could stay in the comfort of our own room until last min. I also want to give a big shout out to our personal concierge Shawki. He helped us with multiple bookings for restaurant and massages on a timely manner, was extremely responsive in communication with us on WhatsApp (really nice touch, BTW), and just had such a warm and happy demeanor that made us feel welcome. Also, without him, we would have attempted to leave Maldives without the health QR code. :)

The resort itself is fantastic as well. Our villa was in great condition and it is great even for rainy weather because there is a sizable outdoor area that is under a pavilion so you can enjoy even if it's raining. We also really enjoyed the oversized tub when it was storming outside. We were particularly impressed with the huge infinity pool by the beach and also the massage villas. I won't describe the massage villa here because I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to discover for yourself.

Food wise, the international buffet breakfast was very high quality with great service. By the time we made it to Waldorf, I had started craving Asian food and the Asian section of the buffet breakfast was a pleasant surprise in quality and authenticity. We also sampled a couple restaurants. Having grown up in Beijing, I endorse the quality of the Peking Duck in Li Long. I probably can't say it's as good as the best ones in Beijing but it definitely met my expectations for being in the middle of Indian Ocean. :) The Ledge Burger also delivered. I think it may have been the best burger I've ever had. If my stay were longer, I'd have gone back for the burger a second time.

My husband and I definitely will go back to Waldorf Astoria if we go back to the Maldives. And we will be sure to end there because we want to end at the best resort.

Amazing stay from beginning to end. We had the best experience from getting picked up right outside the terminal inside the airport, (taken straight to our yacht which is directly outside the airport), and all the way till we were walked to the security area of the airport upon departure. The resort/villa/service is beyond this world. We stayed over the holidays and the “extra” festivities were amazing. Special NYE gala was unforgettable and well worth the mandatory prize tag. They had a firework display, many food stations with all the kitchen staff on the resort (over 20+ stations ranging from seafood to duck to steak to caviar), musical performance and DJ.

Also want to provide feedback on the excellent service of the fitness centre attendees, they did an amazing job of offering training and stretching. Easily my favorite part of staying in this resort. We also did the complementary photoshoot and the photographer was very talented and nice.

We tried all the restaurants during our stay here, and my personal favorite was The Ledge. Pizza/pasta was a close second. The restaurant of Terra has a cool design, but the tasting menu (given the pricing) in comparison was just so-so comparing to other restaurants on the island. Every meal was world-class though!

Hilton diamond/gold members get breakfast and afternoon delights for free. Diamond members also get a complimentary massage upgrade from 60 to 90 minutes.

If you’re wondering if you should bring kids, yes! We took a tour of the kid centre and regretted not bringing our little one.

Amazing experience. Would love to be back.

Hilton really wasn't kidding when they said this place is unforgettable and surrounded by astonishing natural beauty. This place truly is paradise and I really can't describe it any better than that.

We only stayed a week here but felt that it was too little. Nearly everything put a smile on our faces, from the food, activities, the incredibly large and beautiful villa, and the impeccable service. Li Long was legitimately our favorite place to eat here with the duck being our absolute favorite. Make sure you get there early and pick a spot out on the deck so you can enjoy the sunset whilst eating overwater. I'd say skip Terra since the food wasn't really good there but it does make for a great picturesque dinner. If you do go, again, go early and pick the highest cage. We did not get to try out Yasmeen due to the number of days we stayed, but all the other restaurants were good.

We also did a number of activities here, such as a photoshoot here, the sunset fishing trip, fitness classes, and scuba diving. All the instructors were extremely patient with us that made us feel at ease and entertained. Shout out to Ricky, the scuba diving instructor who coddled us like little babies and Mahdi, the gym instructor who gave us a great workout.

Some areas of improvement that I have are that they should really blur the shower glass at least up to like 4 feet. Ours was completely transparent, which is a privacy issue. There was also one night where our toilet had a sewer smell, but we called a technician and they got that fixed relatively quickly. One last critique, where they can't really do anything about is the reef itself. It is kind of bleached, but they are having a reef restoration project which hopefully will restore the reef even if partially.

Overall, I think this is probably the best vacation I had, and I will definitely come back.

We have had plenty of luxury stays but nothing topped the Waldorf Astoria Maldives, and thus this is our second stay at this lovely resort!

Not only are the villas beautiful, spacious, private, and just overall exceptional, it is the staff and attention to details that make this resort stand out among the luxury. My wife needed a dust-free environment due to allergies and the Waldorf team ensured every corner of the (mind you, very large) villa was cleaned with care. I usually have to bring my own cleaning supply to clean our rooms at other hotels/resorts but this time I was jobless in that arena ='D

Moussa was our concierge the first time, and we were very happy to see him assigned to us yet again! He is always available and accommodated our every needs. We enjoyed chatting with Sofia during our time lounging at Peacock Alley. She provided very special touches to our stay because of the level of attention she gives us. The breakfast restaurant team always seemed to remember our favorite seat and drink orders on the beach, and the gym specialists were great to have conversations with while working out. This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of their exceptional hospitality.

The reef around the resort is also developing very nicely! There is even more aquatic life than the first time we were there. There is still so much room for it to grow, but it was exciting to see clear, positive changes.

Highly recommend anyone looking for a memorable vacation. This will probably not be our last visit to the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi.

We we met by Waldorf team as soon as we left the arrival hall at the airport and transferred to our boat.
Upon arrival to the resort we were met by Camille whom was always available during our stay and was great help.
Want to thank the whole island team starting with General Manager Etienne, whom has a great group of people working in such harmony. Few of the names we remember and want to thank to; Nava team and Muhthu, Peacock Alley and Waheed, Gym team and Mahdhy, Al Ahmed, Selvi.
HHONORS: Being a Diamond member, we had great Happy Hour every day. Only comment it was too early at 16.00 which Icould be an hour later. Nice breakfast buffet at the Tasting Table.
Nava had great live and DJ music at nights, the only problem was lack of people because you don't want to leave your room.
The resort has too many dining outlets in my opinion (11 restaurants for 120 rooms) and that is another reason you don't see anyone around.
This was my 7th time in the Maldives but first stay at this resort and I can easily say this is The Best by far.
Looking forward to going back already.

This was our second trip to the Waldorf Maldives, and this time we stayed over New Year’s Eve.

Our last visit was good and it was pleasing to see that the resort has ironed out some (but not all) of the earlier teething problems

We stayed in a Reef Villa this time, facing out to the ocean rather than the lagoon. We preferred this to the Beach Villas (despite it being a lower category) as you have an uninterrupted view of the ocean (the beach villas have foliage around them which hampers the view), and also we found them to be situated more conveniently to some of the resort amenities, allowing us to get around more easily. Snorkelling was also surprisingly good given the island itself is new.

The buggy system, which was one area that needed working on is now much improved and we never had to wait more than a few minutes for one to arrive.

The dive centre we good last time around but has also improved and will now take you to the dive sites on the other side of the atoll without making you pay for a private dive to do so - this really does make a huge improvement to the quality of dive sites available.

Of the restaurants, the Ledge is still by far the best, and is outstanding given it’s location. Glow was decent, and Yasmin was fine, if not hugely exciting. They are about to open a Japanese restaurant, which, if it is up to scratch will be a great addition.

The butler service was also excellent again, as was housekeeping.

The hotel had a number of activities on during the festive period which culminated in a New Year gala dinner. We thought this was well organised and of high quality and broadly justified the cost (c.$1k per person) associated with it given the location.

There are still things here which could be improved, in particular, the WiFi which is very weak and I found almost impossible to work off even for some fairly basic, low-data tasks. I understand the hotel is trying to improve this.

Management appeared genuinely keen to seek feedback and ideas to improve, and this hotel is progressing well towards competing with some of the very best in the Maldives, particularly for those travelling in families or groups.

We stayed in a beach villa in the 200's and give the most high recommendation to the room and also the location on the island. We generally prefer to stay on the beach rather than overwater for the space and variety and this room was exceptional.
My wife and I have traveled extensively and would rank this visit in the top vacation resorts we have ever visited. Although we were there when Chinese travelers were not allowed and occupancy was lower, I have no doubt that the outstanding service and food quality would not be any lower even with higher occupancy. A special mention to the food at Glow.
Some time has passed and we still remember how special we were made to feel at the WA. Thanks to Muzah, Adam, JuJu, Waheed and Tommy at the Peacock Alley, and Ari the F&B manager.
We look forward to returning very soon.

Its difficult to review a place like this because you dont know where to start. In short, its an amazing resort!

This is the fifth high end resort my wife and I visit in the Maldives and its not really comparable to anything else. The villas are fabulous; grandiose and classy. The restaurants are wonderful. Youre spoiled for choice in terms of variety and the quality is top noch. Truly fit for foodies. Everything we have eaten has been great; not a single thing has disappointed. The burger at The ledge is to die for, and everything at Shimzu was amazing. The chef himself even came out to greet us at the end of our meal, recommended another dish (The toothfish) and if sounded so good we ordered it despite having finished, and indeed it was awesome. The deputy manager at Shimzu was equally hreat, providing recommendations and tips throughout our meal. The breakfast is also wonderful, and although I would not rate it as highly as the breakfast at Four Seasons Kura Hudda, it really does provide a great start to the day!

The service is also excellent. We had two different assistants, Shareeq and Tifffany, and both get the job done. We asked to change rooms after our first night because the buggies by the water villas make too much noise during the day (pregnant wife needs her naps) and the Duty Manager at Reception did so without a problem. Reef villas were all that was available, which is a lower category room but we actually prefer them, and we were offered spending credit to offset the price difference. Top level service right there.

All in all, this place is magic. Everyone goes out of their way to help and the scenery is magnificent. Its expensive, of course, but not more so than the other big names out here. And its worth every penny.

Take the plunge, you will not be disappointed.

How much does it cost for the whole island?

The water villas in the 700s but in odd numbers (eg. 713, 715, 719 etc.) should have a sunrise view. Unfortunately, I don’t think there are any rooms on the island that has the direct sunset view as none of the rooms seems to be facing the west. You can still get a nice sunset view if you go to their bar Amber or even their Spa, which they open the grounds for guest to enjoy the sunset. I think snorkelling can be done from the deck of most water villas. We were at 712 and the reef drop off is around 30m away from our deck. As for the best spot, I think you will have to ask your butler when you get there or write to them and ask them to assign you a room near the best snorkeling spot. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. Also. Snorkeling gear is provided free of charge by the resort.
