The King's Head Inn is a hotel that receives mixed feedback, with its picturesque location near walking trails and Roseberry Topping being highly appreciated by many guests. While the service is generally lauded for being friendly and efficient, some travelers have faced disorganization. The rooms are commonly described as clean and comfortable, yet issues with noise and maintenance have been noted.
The hotel's cleanliness is a standout feature, and despite some complaints about noise and the pet-friendly policy, the overall atmosphere is welcoming. Value perceptions vary, with some guests considering it overpriced and others pleased with the pricing.

Detailed Reviews
Really great stay whilst visiting family for a week over Christmas.
The bedrooms are in a separate block across the drive from the pub so are really quiet.
We had the Superior Double room, they have just the one, situated in what was the conservatory. Very comfortable. The only downside, for us, was it only has a shower, no bath. Rooms 6 & 7 are also doubles, further round on the ground floor, that have propper baths.
The food was stunning. Can't remember, if ever, when I've seen a menu with 9 main courses any of which I should like to try. Service was polite and attentive. Portions are well, Yorkshire!
The final feature is that the hotel is situated at the bottom of Roseberry Topping, a local landmark.
All of this means we will go back. Unfortunately, today, 10/1/20, when I tried today to book for the Easter weekend in April, 3 months away, they were already full.
Another time then......

Having stayed at the Lindisfarne Inn on several occasions I was disappointed with our visit. We stayed 2 nights on the walk in break, the food was good but no one mentioned the packed lunch for the following day so we missed out on that. We were asked if the room needed anything after the first night but in a 3 star hotel I would assume that as a minimum the bed would have been made. Would go back to Lindisfarne again and only sorry that we didn't for this beak, it was a birthday and silver wedding anniversay celebration and a bit disappointing.

We were in Yorkshire on holiday & stopped off at this pub for a drink in the garden
My husband went in and was told by a member of staff that they’d send someone out to take our order .
A waitress tended to the same table twice & didn’t even say hello or acknowledge that we were there .
Maybe wearing a mask gives them anonymity or it’s location means the staff don’t have to provide a good service . It wasn’t busy atalll we sat waiting for 10 mins and left . We went down the road to a The Buck hotel with just one waitress who greeted us & took our order when we sat down .
I would have thought due to the pandemic & pubs just opening up The Kings Inn would be welcoming customers back but this isn’t the case

We went in a group on the Winter Deal having had a good experience at this hotel a year ago. The rooms are clean and comfortable and ours at the rear of the accommodation block was quiet though some of our party were disturbed by the upstairs guests and creaky floorboards. Front bedrooms are also near a main road. The disappointment was in the dinners which were included in the deal. Every evening there were problems. On one night neither of the vegan options were available. One night only 2 steaks left and we'd ordered three. Then the aubergine dish was off due to no noodles! Then the waitress returned a fourth time to say no trout and the alternative dish requested, game cottage pie, was also unavailable. You don't even find out when you order. It's fed back to the table piecemeal. One night we waited 20 minutes to order and it was an hour before main courses arrived, and not all of us had starters. One morning the tomato ketchup 'hadn't been delivered'. Breakfast became increasingly basic and by third day no natural yogurt or fresh fruit salad. The offer of receiving a free drink instead of having room service seemed fine until the daily debate with different members of staff. Wouldn't do that again. Would also say the starters are really over priced though fortunately ours were included. We had a very small portion of baked camembert supposedly to share between 2, with 2 triangles of toast. That was priced at £16. A few mushrooms on half a burger bap with no garnish cost £9.

Thoroughly disappointed in our meal today. Despite having booked a table we were told that it would be an hour wait for our food due to the volume of customers who were walking in off the street, which would appear to go against COVID-19 restrictions. As we had children with us we stayed and ordered, it subsequently took 25 minutes for our drinks to arrive. We were pleased when the meals started to arrive after only 40 minutes however after the first meal arrived it took another 20 minutes for the others to appear and then one was sent back as it was stone cold and one order was wrong. Each time we requested anything from salt and pepper to cutlery it took an age to come. We also found egg shell in one of the children’s meals. The gravy was cold and watery and the food was cold generally. The restaurant had clearly bitten off more than it could chew but this isn’t the customers fault and having not sat around a table with family for a long time we were so disappointed. I won’t return here again.

I’ll start by saying I would have loved to give this place a higher rating, but I can’t.
Was allocated Room 2, which other reviewers have commented is a converted conservatory. It’s therefore stifling hot during the day, but as the temperature drops at night, so does the room temperature. There are window blinds on the roof of the conservatory which do block out much of the light, but not all of it, so be prepared to wake up at sunrise. No doubt this is why the hotel leaves eye masks (and ear plugs) on the bed.
The bathroom was adequate but very dated. Quite a bit of black mould in the shower but otherwise it was clean and serviceable.
Had dinner and the included breakfast in the restaurant. Breakfast is particularly good with a wide range of choice. I had the kippers (note these are whole kippers, not fillets) which were very tasty if undercooked, which meant the sludgy bits had to be left.
There were two other major disappointments to my stay. In the restaurant, condiments are in sachets on each table. Unfortunately the mustard sachets were all 2 months beyond their expiry date, which is something I would expect the hotel to be on top of. I alerted the restaurant manager to this, who checked all the other tables to find the same expired sachets. I don’t know whether this was resolved.
Finally, if you’re here on business (as I was) don’t rely on the hotel Wi-Fi. It’s abysmal and the staff openly acknowledge this. When it did stay connected, it was painfully slow and certainly unable to sustain a stable connection. WiFi in the accommodation block is virtually non existent. Mobile phone coverage is also virtually non existent inside the buildings with Vodafone, O2 and EE all struggling to connect. However there’s a handy bus shelter diagonally opposite the hotel, which seems to be ok for mobile phone and data reception. Of course, if you’re looking for a detox holiday away from phones and the internet, then this place is ideal!
Overall a disappointing experience. In fairness, all the staff I came in to contact with were lovely and went out of their way to be helpful, but as one said to me, they can only do so much when the building and infrastructure need upgrading.

Visited the kings head on Sunday for a family Sunday dinner that was booked. The meal was booked for 3pm but on arrival we were told there would be an hour wait! Couldn’t believe this as had five young children with us - hence why we booked. They then took out order. We waited 30 minutes just to be given our drinks. When mentioning thy is to staff. They weren’t interested or apologetic. An hour later we eventually revived our food. Well one of us did. One member of our family was given his meal and ate the whole thing before our other meals had arrived. When our other meals arrived we were given no knives or forks. Had to wait again for these and eventually head to go up and get them ourselves. Food was sat for a good ten minutes. Sunday dinner was served cold. The parmo was greasy and disgusting. Even my seven year old little girl said she couldn’t eat her Yorkshire puddings as it wasn’t very nice (it was dripping in oil). There was an egg shell found in the garlic bread of our two year olds meal. They couldn’t even get the drinks right. The lime and lemon had not been stirred so just had the lime sitting at the bottom. Not once were genuine apologise made. Just excuses that it was busy. In the end we were given the meal for free which was not what we were after. We wanted a nice first family meal after lockdown and this is what we got. The day totally ruined and resulted in upset. Would never return here again.

Greg and his staff without exception were excellent. The drinks and menu selection were good, however 2 out of 3 draft beers and some selections were unavailable on our first night. The Inn and accommodation were clean. The location is fantastic and the main road that runs past the Inn is reasonably quiet at night. Sadly, in our opinion the room (Room 4) wasn’t value for money as it was very cramped considering the price we paid. There were also a number of maintenance issues that were reported to Greg prior to our departure.

Stayed for a few nights after seeing the room quality on the hotel website, my photo shows the room shown on the their website and the room we got! I was aggrieved with the vast difference between what was promoted and the reality of Room 1. It was £150 per night and I felt ripped off..
The room was tiny, it shouldn't be sold for two people and a dog (as we were) - it barely would fit on person comfortably, I am 6"3. The bed against the wall created logistical nightmares for moving around the room.
It would be simple for the hotel to sell the room 1 as a small room on their website with images (as other hotels do) rather than deceiving people.
After speaking to the Manager I was brushed off by being told it was a little on the small side, I have since contacted info@inncollectiongroup.com (as asked to) twice and received an outdated out of office response once and no reply to my complaint.
