Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just arrived home after two nights here. We have stopped at various Wolsey lodges in the past but have to say this is THE best. The owners (Sheila and Guy )are wonderful hosts. A Fabulous period property with all the every day modern facilities. Local produce provides excellent breakfast fare cooked to perfection. We will certainly return. Highly recommended.

We were made very welcome by the owners and nothing was too much trouble. Very comfortable room with king size bed. Huge bathroom with everything you could want. We arrived late afternoon and were very kindly invited to have tea and cake in the residents sitting room. There is a large source of local information by way of books and pamphlets and the owners are a font of knowledge. Good pubs nearby for dinner. Can recommend The Mill Race just down the road. Breakfast was made to order to whatever you fancy with locally sourced ingredients and home made bread. We hope to visit the area again and look forward to staying at this beautiful house on another occasion.

We stayed here 3 days in February 2023. The house is exquisite and the host and hostess are welcoming and friendly. When we arrived on the Friday afternoon, they served up a pot of tea with china cups and a freshly baked cake. This happened again on the Saturday after we'd been out for a trip. The location is superb, near Symonds Yat on the River Wye, and the 17th century house just oozes character. I would recommend it to all our friends.

Sheila & Guy are extremely hospitable hosts and make a superb cooked breakfast using locally sourced ingredients. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The Tudor house is packed full of character yet has been fitted with all mod cons which made our stay even more comfortable. Set in a superb and quiet location close to great walks, castles and towns as well as a choice of several pubs serving good food. There is nothing that can be faulted - an extremely relaxing stay. Highly recommended.

Another amazing stay at Lower Wythall. Such a fabulous building which has been lovingly restored by Sheila and Guy, and has so much character. They are amazing hosts with such attention to detail. The amazing breakfasts with locally sourced products. The home made cakes, bread, honey and yoghurt and all the other touches make this place really special. Thank you so much for making our stay once again so pleasantly relaxing and very enjoyable. Can't wait to return.

We have just enjoyed a few days at this beautiful historic house in a splendid location. Our hosts made every effort to make sure our stay was perfect. The room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfasts and cakes were amazing. We were able to visit some great places nearby, for sightseeing and walking, such as Goodrich Castle, Symonds Yat and Hereford. We can't wait to return .

Have just had a wonderful weekend away at Lower Wythall; our second visit in recent years and it was so good to be back. Sheila and Guy spoil their guests with fabulous home cooking (breakfast by Guy) and baking (afternoon cake by Sheila) and they make it almost impossible to want to stay anywhere else as they are both so lovely! The house itself is an amazing place, full of character with a handful of spacious and luxurious rooms. The location is well placed for visiting many places within 30-60 minutes away (Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Worcester, Ledbury, Hereford to name but a few and not forgetting Ross-on-Wye itself). Thank you for making our time away so special.

This was our first visit and it definitely lived up to the expectation set by earlier reviews. Extremely comfortable and well-equipped room (Foxwhelp but others are similarly-equipped) and excellent wifi coverage. The complementary cakes in the room were lovely and we were always offered tea and cake on our return in the afternoon. Another highlight was breakfast, which became a multi-course affair with home-made granola, greek yoghurt and fruit, followed by a cooked breakfast of your choice - I like the traditional bacon, eggs, mushroom and tomato but there was black pudding and potato cakes on offer too, plus toasted home-made bread. Others had the smoked salmon and said it was the best they had ever had - it's also locally-sourced. Everywhere was beautifully clean and it was also a remarkably peaceful location, with the only noise in the morning being the hushed twitter of the housemartins under the eaves and various other birds enjoying the garden. We could not have been more pleased with our stay at Lower Wythall B&B.
