After much frustration researching hotels in Bournemouth that were just awful, this gem came highly recommended.
Far from the madding crowd yet a stones throw from Sittingbourne beach this little privately owned hotel packs a big punch.. and comes as no surprise it is a Four in a Bed winner !
Friendly and relaxed the atmosphere here is all good.
Comfortable rooms great housekeeping with crisp bed linen and black out curtains, ample hot water, a hospitality tray including glass bottled water, the usual toiletries quality extras including dressing gowns, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
Quality food served piping hot an extensive wine list and interesting evening menu saves traveling to find food. Delicious breakfasts .. with a great varied menu served piping hot tasty sausages and perfect coffee and hot milk! Compliments to the chefs!
Outside area is pleasant.. with grassed areas patio and decking.
Need more convincing ? The staff are customer focused efficient and super friendly. Lucy and Hugo utterly charming in the dining room and Frankie checked us in so smoothly.
The decor is lovely throughout and old school memories can be found from a bygone era.
The cherry on the cake ? Dogs are welcome too!
Thank you all for making our stay a great one !

Stayed here as ideal location for visiting relative nearby.
Extremely warm welcome and shown to lovely room which was large and sunny. View of garden. TV in room and refreshments provided two sorts of water and various coffees etc.
Bathroom had lovely soft towels and toiletries were plentiful all replaced daily by requesting on form provided
.
We ate here as convenient and enjoyed everything.
The waiting staff were very cheerful.
Location wise a very short walk and you were at the cliff top with a variety of paths down to a perfect beach.
Buses frequently pass nearby various locations.
All in all although this visit was to visit relative in nearby home I can't recommend highly enough and felt sad to leave and would happily stay here again.

Booked into the cliff house whilst on a 2 week holiday.
From the moment we arrived everything was superb, we were greeted by the owner/chef who passed us on to a member of staff who seated us and brought over some water for the table.
I had a great pint of Ringwood beer and my wife had a bottle of ginger beer (someone’s got to drive 😂) I decided to treat myself to the luxury surf and turf. The ribeye steak was perfectly cooked and having never lobster before it was definitely worth adding and so tasty.
My wife chose the rack of lamb, again excellently cooked. For dessert I had the New York baked cheesecake, very tasty and my wife had the chocolate fondant which she would highly recommend.

After finishing our meal we chatted to the owner for a good 30 minutes about the hotel which was a nice personal touch.
We had an excellent meal and experience and would highly recommend.

Parking is difficult with only 6spaces when evening restaurant is busy & you can't park when returning from day out. No information given upon checking in, owners seem very absent and lack communication. Had to ask breakfast times, especially with housekeeping too as under new restrictions you need to fill out a form to leave outside your room if you need clean towels, cups, water we had to continually find a member of staff to resolve these issues. Having said that the team of staff are polite, helpful & friendly.
Premium Rooms were spacious, comfy bed, need to invest in better quality pillows & towels nothing special for the premium price, dusty light fittings mix of modern & old fashioned, kettles need descaling, shower is from bath taps not very powerful and lukewarm water throughout stay, but clean.
Main meal on EOTHO was very high quality, high hopes for breakfast on first morning but was nothing special & the lovely waitress was running around seeing to everything on her own, we had to continually ask for side plates, cutlery, veggie breakfast sausage was unappealing, further breakfasts were slightly better different chef?? One waitress managed to spread herself thinly with a smile. But one member of staff to see to multiple guests for breakfast where self service is not allowed under current situation is not particularly easy. We understand that it needs to be table service but not the WOW factor we were expecting with breakfast. Check out was easy take your payment but don't engage in conversation to see how your stay was or made you feel valued as a paying guest. We enjoyed our short stay as a quiet nice area but doubtful we would stay here again. Obviously being Four in a bed winners was a one off as standards and enthusiasm for the hotel aspect have definitely slipped, when you would think they would be pleased to have paying guests again after Lockdown, and really invest in 'Premium quality' across all areas.

I recently stayed at The Cliff House Hotel on 4 September 2020, after a long overdue re-visit, under new management and watching Four in a Bed.

I was very excited to return to a favourite hotel of mine and although we enjoyed our time, there are a few points that require attention, as these flagged up as a disappointment.

Firstly, on checking into our Room (14), I was expecting to be able to make a fresh cup of coffee, as the website states that each room has an espresso machine. This was not the case and we only had a kettle and instant coffee sachets. This was a definite let down, for a lover of proper coffee.

Secondly, the pillows were in a rather sorry state, very flat and absolutely no plumping made any difference.

Thirdly, the shower (although noisy) was satisfactory, but the tray flooded, so we did not expect to receive the added ‘foot spa’! I can only assume that the filter had not been properly cleaned and was causing a blockage? We had to
request additional
towels so that we could mop
the floor, after each shower. Not really an acceptable shower experience!

At dinner, the waiting staff were mediocre and not very familiar with the menus. I asked for a large glass of Malbec, but was brought a glass of Merlot! At no point was I told that Malbec was not available, until the second glass was ordered by my partner and then he was told that it had run out?! The staff were not overly attentive to our requirements, but maybe that was due to us being situated outside? It would have been nice to have been asked if we wanted coffee at the end of the courses.

I am also a little bit confused by the website, whether dogs are accepted or not? Their website brazenly states ‘*unfortunately our bedrooms are no longer dog friendly’, but there were several dogs in the evening and next morning at breakfast, so if this can be clarified, as the waitress was informing customers that the hotel is dog friendly?

I have always loved this hotel for its quaintness, character and atmosphere, but there are some services that are failing and require improvement.

The garden area, food and cocktails were fabulous and also the shampoo in the shower.

It was also disappointing that I wrote an email to the hotel, but had absolutely no response to
my feedback.

We had originally booked a long weekend here in April with Secret Escapes but covid-19 put paid to that however Cliff House were very accommodating and re-booked us in for my birthday weekend in July. Location of the hotel is good with only a short walk to the beach and a nice cliff top walk into Bournemouth. We had a standard room overlooking the garden which was ok however it was clear there had been water damage in the corner of the room that hadn't been addressed and with the window open the bath panel banged all night which when mentioned seems the Hotel were aware of but had not addressed either. However staff were friendly and service for us good if a little chaotic at times, all wore masks and sanitiser was available and no-one entered our room throughout so felt safe. Most other guests were good at social distancing and hand hygiene. Food wise we had a lovely meal on 2 evenings but on the Sunday the menu is slightly different and timings of dinner are restricted. Whilst we had enjoyed Dorset crab souffle, beautiful pork loin and steak dishes the roast on Sunday came with inedible roast potatoes so overcooked we could not cut them and when mentioned by more diners than just ourselves it appeared they kept coming out. Overall it was a pleasant stay and good value for what we paid but given they are new owners and apparently won Four in a Bed there is still room for improvement.

An excellent choice for a good garden lunch. Super tasty food .well presented and service with a smile where nothing is too difficult! The young Waiter that served us who live just around the corner of the hotel was well dressed , extremely well mannered but most importantly knew and understood what is on the menue . Though we did not order one , we are sure enough to do so next time . Very well though though wine list . Highly recommended !

We stayed for a week. Weather was glorious. Hotel clean, well staffed, friendly and fabulous food.
Plenty of tables outside for drinking and / or eating.
We usually eat out at different places when we stay somewhere for a week, but the food was so good, we ate at the hotel at least 3 evenings and all meals were really well cooked and presented, with great friendly service.
Breakfasts were a buffet set up. Choice of tea/ coffee offered as soon as you appeared. Full cooked breakfast beautifully presented under a hot plate, but remained fresh whatever time we came down.
All in all a fantastic week

We have just got back from a wonderful stay at this gorgeous hotel- what a hidden gem! We stayed for 2 nights, one of which we had dinner included. The food was unbelievably delicious, and the staff were so attentive. Our room was exceptionally clean, made even more special with all the added little extra touches such as homemade shortbread to have with a cuppa! Just lovely.

The hotel is so close to the beach; just a 5 minute stroll away which was great. It also took us just under 10 minutes for us to walk to Southbourne highstreet, which had many a restaurant and bar to offer.

Thank you Cliff House Hotel for a wonderful stay. We would definitely return!

Having booked for dinner in the first ‘post lockdown’ week and been delighted, we booked again for an evening family meal.

Unfortunately on this visit the service was slow, the food was very poor (floppy salad, dried up lobster) and the presentation of the children’s food and the thought that had gone in to the ingredients used was appalling.

The chicken portions in the children’s meal were extremely spicy even for an adults pallet and the children’s pudding which was a brownie was dumped on the same plate as the main chicken dish. The included drink was also forgotten.

To be fair to the hotel they removed the cost of the kids meal when it came to the bill but this doesn’t really make up for an ill thought out children’s menu and a complete lack of thought in how and when the pudding should come. If it’s a matter of cost, then put the price up and serve the pudding when it’s wanted and accompany it with a blob of cream / ice cream so it looks at least half appealing.

All in all a great shame and proof that as a business you are only ever as good as your last job. We had initially recommended the place to several people but will not do so again.

I haven't stayed there but it is in a quiet area so all rooms should be quiet. I recommend the food there and for hungry appetites, maybe the bottomless brunch if its available when you stay.
