Authentic, charming and good quality guesthouse in the beautiful archipelago of the Lofoten & Vesteralen Isles in North Norway. At Skagakaia you live straight at the quai, in a traditional old dock house or "rorbu". Here at the quay, you can relax in a deck chair to the most beautiful ocean view, or maybe start your day with a refreshing morning dive or by testing your fishing luck right from your doorstep. Known for its good atmosphere and excellent food, - traditional and local - the restaurant at Skagakaia have both local and house guests. Sometimes we invite to small concerts, and some of the best moments have been when our gusts spontaneously have brought their violin or borrowed our guitar. The local surroundings offers many beautiful hiking routes. We have bicycles for hire and our rowing boats are free to use for our guests. As hostess at Skagakaia I am happy to share my grandparents' place with you, and maybe to show you around and tell you about all the nice places and things to do. We have no TV, but WIFI is free.

Beautiful and wonderful place on the south tip of Vesterålen. Stayed in a delightful room with sea view, the dinner - Boknafisk' was one of the most amazing meals I've ever eaten. Lone - the host gave 5 star service. If you want to go to a place your heart will thank you for- you have to come to this wonderful amazing place ❤️

We have extended our stay as its do hard to leave this wonderfully comfortable and welcoming nest. Hostess Lona is a mine of information and has infinite patience in answering questions about walks, norwegian food, politics and weather. She comes to get you if the northern lights happen to show, she prepares delicious breakfasts and dinners using locally sourced produce and her chocolate cake is not to be missed. A gem of a place and a person!

Well-appointed rooms with character on the shore with views over to Lofoten and inland to Veten and other mountains. Meals are served in the harbour-master's house with lots of mementos and artefacts from days gone by. There's a microwave for heating up your own food. The only problem was that the bathroom floods when the shower is used, requiring towels to soak up the water from the floor - not something that guests should be required to do.

Had the honour to stay at this fantastic location for 4 days on a business trip in August 2018. When we arrived we where greeted by the lovely owner and host Lone. Lone has made this place her self. She showed us to our bedrooms and boy where we in for a treat. It was just like visiting my grandmother in the 80's. Everything was old, authentic and retro. Even the bed sheets and all had that 70-80's feeling. Very nice rooms in different sizes, some singles and some doubles. Everything was clean and well kept. After a good nights sleep we woke up to a heavenly breakfast, fresh made bread and a huge assort of different things to eat. Home made jam, eggs, bacon, cheese, vegetables, fruit and assorted types of meat. Eating was done in the Main House, in a grandmothers kitchen. We ate dinner there two of the nights. First day we ate Lines homemade whale stew that was just the best stew I've ever had in a long time. The second day we got served Bacalao. This bacalao was made by Lone her self, and that was the best meal I ate in 2018. I was totally blown away and I ate 2 portions more then I really should. If you want to relax, have a nice experience and travel back to the good old days I would recommend you to visit this Gem of a place. I will for sure come back here one day. I loved this place and Lones food. …

Situated in the old post office, Skagakaia restaurant offers traditional food from the district. We had a delicious Whale Terrine accompanied with Italian whine. The service is personal, the food excellent. We highly recommend Skagakaia Restaurant

This place is just beautiful. Feels like the edge of the earth. The views are awesome. The food they prepare is incredible and better than all the places we have visited. The owner is really great and you can tell loves making things perfect. We visited for 2 days as part of a trip to Lofotan.

You go there for the place, not for the room ! The room is very tiny : the place for 2 beds and that's pretty much it. Shower/toilet in the commun area. But if you don't care of the room and just want to have a bed in a beautiful area, it's perfect ! Pictures are better than 1000 words. PS: free rowboat if you want to go on the bay.

Response from Lone L, Owner at Skagakaia
Responded 17 Oct 2016
Thanks for staying at Skagakaia - I'm happy you enjoyed your short 1 night stay with us and that you liked the area. Yes, you did book the smallest twin room we have, but if you next time prefer a bigger room, let me know :-) Ask about availability, even after arrival. All our rooms are different in size, style and facilities and if I feel my guests are not 100 % content and happy I will always offer the best match I have available. Some rooms have sea view, some have private bathroom, some rooms are better if you stay longer, the smallest are ok for a short stay. Hoping to see you again at Skagakaia - it's alot to explore around here and also really nice to just relax in a good chair at the quay.

Skagakaia is an affordable and charming place. The rooms are cozy, clean and nicely decorated. The bathrooms are very clean and modern. The common areas makes a nice meeting place with other travellers. You can cook your own food in the kitchen, or get a delicious meal at the restaurant. Lone, the host, is extremely nice and service-minded - a truly impressive woman. The area is one of the most beautiful places in all of Norway.

Nothing we can add to all the other wonderful reviews! This was our second visit here and as though we had never been away. It was so easy, and fun, to get involved in the local activities as we were there for Reginedagen again. The essence of the place is the hostess, Lone Lanmark, who brings the whole experience to life in a special way, including educating visitors about the local food, which she cooks expertly. It is a great place to meet other travellers and also a great place to avoid them! Hope to return again before word gets around.

If you are planning a round trip to the northern part of Norway, you should stay some days at Skagakaia. The owner Lone Lamark is a perfect hostess who takes really care of her gusts. We stayed there for four nights(12-16 August 2015) in lagre room with a beutiful sea view. In her restaurant you will be served local seafood and her selection of wines was better that expected.
