The room I had was tiny. Double bed pushed against the wall and nowhere to store your suitcase. It was cold. No heating from the radiator The bed was comfy and the sheets and pillows were a different class - excellent The bathroom was modern , unlike the tiny, weeny TV which lacked features. The pub was great. It had... More

Food was bland and disappointing. Had ham egg and chips and ham tasted of nothing, eggs tasted like pure oil and the chips were just run of the mill chips even though they were advertised as 'triple cooked'!, front of house staff were attentive and nice but the food let it down. Won't be going again...

Having been an on/off resident in the area for many years I have known the Lord Lyon through many different landlords / owners and its many different guises. As a location it is always convenient and welcoming but currently the food is nothing to shout about. A standard choice of burgers, fish and chips etc which is fine but nothing... More

I used to know the Lord Lyon quite well when working in Newbury some 15 years ago. The food was excellent - then. So I thought it would be a good place to have lunch today when my wife and myself were passing by. Bad mistake. In fact we never got lunch at all. I should have realised something was... More

Hotel was under new management and restaurant was not yet available, meaning no breakfast! A very nice period hotel very close to Lambourn Village and racehorse training. Check back when management has gotten their act together.

I visited the Lord Lyon some months ago when Passing through Newbury for a wedding. Whilst the exterior of the phb showed promise with lovely hanging baskets wtc the interior was disappointing . I ordered a drink and had plenty of choice where to sit (8pm Saturday night) but struggled to find anywhere that didn't smell like a tap room.... More

we booked the bed and breakfast while we visited another hotel to discuss our upcoming wedding and used this as a base with the hope that our wedding guests will also stay here next year. In recent weeks the Lord Lyon has been taken over by a new team. We have now visited twice and on both occasions have been really impressed. On our first visit we stopped by for an impromptu drink and were greeted with a warm friendly welcome from the new clan behind the bar. We booked dinner for a family gathering... More
