Beautiful countryside setting, facing the canal on one side and our lake on the other. The relaxed atmosphere here envelops and calms, leaving you refreshed and invigorated. Children and adults alike can enjoy that old fashioned luxury of freedom, just to potter about or explore our woods and grounds, build a damn in the stream, watch the birds and butterflies, and listen to the occasional whistle from the steam train running in the valley.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our second visit here stayed for a few days, lovely warm cosy cottage. Great to have a choice of a shower or a bath. Next time will make it in the spring or summer as it was to wet to enjoy the lovely grounds.

Third time coming to Foxtwood Cottages and second time in Seventh Heaven. Owners are friendly and accommodating. The apartment is still impeccable and cosy after 5 years. Owners put in just the right amount of stuff to make it feel like a home from home. I often got stuck staring out the window while brushing my teeth looking for all the different wildlife in the lake to the front or the canal at the back. Got dinners delivered from a local lady in Leek so we didn't have to "cook" as such. So much to do in the local area so we never get bored (ok Wednesday term time indoor activities for children things are a bit sparse). Kids still absolutely adore these cottages and still want to come back :)

Response from Alison Worrall, Owner at Foxtwood Cottages
Responded 25 Oct 2023
Thank you for your lovely review. It was lovely to see you all again. I'll look at compiling a list of places open in term time, I know how frustrating it can be as we too usually go away ourselves "out of season"!

Foxtwood Cottages were recommended by a friend and they did not disappoint. We stayed in Wysteria which was lovely. Everything we needed, clean and comfortable. Lovely local walks. Our dog loved walking round the lake and swimming in it alongside my husband. He also took out one of the kayaks. Alison and Clive were so helpful and informative, great hosts. This was the perfect, peaceful four night break that we needed. Hope to return soon for a longer stay!

This was our most recent of many stays at Foxtwood Cottages. Sometimes we stays for several weeks, sometimes just a weekend, but every time is a pleasure. Alison & Clive are the perfect hosts - helpful and attentive but never intrusive and I always enjoy chatting with them about our mutual love of motorbikes 😁 The properties are always spotlessly clean and in peak condition with everything you might need and more. See you again soon!

Second time we’ve been here. It’s so peaceful with beautiful scenery all around. Cottages are equipped with everything you may need with comfortable beds and a quiet cosy setting. Cottage owners are friendly, welcoming & happy to help where ever they can. Nearby you have something for everyone. Alton towers is a very short drive away or you can cross the road to an amazing tea rooms. We chose to take a few walks in the lovely countryside and also walk 10mins up the road to a steam train station for a ride. Would we come back? Absolutely! The beautiful lake out the front is absolutely enough to get me back. I loved sitting have a chat each evening in the swing seat. This was perfectly located and a spotlessly clean and tidy cottage with plenty of home comforts

Just spent a short break in Wharf Cottage. After visiting Foxtwood for 20+yrs it has kept its very high standards for cleanliness, friendliness and making sure the cottage has everything you could possibly need, you will want for nothing. Clive, Alison, Alex and Ben are always available should you need any help, info or advice. Cosy log fire 🔥 comfy bed, lots of hot water and even the everyday condiments are there in the cupboard for your convenience. 100% recommend to any age group. My husband loves fishin g 🐟on the beautiful lake set in gorgeous surroundigs

Writing a review for Foxtwood Cottages seems a little surplus to requirements. Everyone seems to rave about this fabulous place. We celebrated our golden wedding by taking all the family for a long weekend. 3 cottages and 11 people aged a few months to 70ish. Everyone had the most brilliant time. The cottages are stylish, spacious and extremely well equipped. The lake was a great success and we now have some budding expert kayakers in the family. The bbq shelter was delightful and enabled us all to relax together. The whole trip was perfect and we are so pleased that we chose to celebrate this way and at this place. Thank you.

Another fabulous stay at Foxtwood. Have been coming here with friends for many years. We always have a fantastic time, enjoy the walks, the great BBQ area and just chilling by the lake with a spot of fishing as well. Alison & Clive are great hosts and always on hand if you need anything. Highly recommend a visit.

We have been coming to Foxtwood for around 20 years now and always find it a home from home and so relaxing. Our most recent mid-week break was no exception. The weather was not too kind this time - a bit wet but we made the most of it. Clive and Alison were the perfect hosts as ever. We can recommend Hetty’s tea room just over the road at the wharf and we also had an excellent pub lunch at The Lazy Trout, Meerbrook which is about a 25 minute drive away next to Tittesworth Reservoir. Make sure you’re hungry when you go. Dimmingsdale is a lovely place for a walk and The Rambler’s Retreat is there for refreshments afterwards. It’s a lovely spot. We’ll be back!!

Our large, extended family have booked a group of the Foxtwood Cottages over Christmas several times because the cottages are superb; they are spacious, of high specification and a perfect 'home from home'. We are always delighted by the attention to detail; owner Alison decorates each cottage with a Christmas tree. This year even little gifts from 'Santa' of chocolates mysteriously arrived hanging on our doors on Christmas morning - the children were thrilled! With the option of logs fires, all modern, well-equipped kitchens and spotless interiors, the venue is perfect for a family get-together (booking several cottages together) and we would thoroughly recommend .The Cottages are set in stunning scenery and the opportunities for local walks are numerous. The owners are willingly on call to help with any minor issues (e.g. light bulb replacements). A wonderful place to stay.
