Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I came across this charming hotel/pub/B&B while walking in the Peak District. It is not the prettiest nor the most luxurious hotel -but if you want a friendly welcome, good food and a wonderful view over Lathkill Dale, this place is ideal.

Very friendly, comfortable albeit basic 4 room hotel and pub/bar - ideal as a base for solo Peak District adventures - bedrooms are a bit snug for two people but ideal for solo travellers. Pleasantly surprised to find a mini-fridge in the room, perfect for storing mile, sandwiches etc

Food in 'restaurant' is standard fare for a pub. They cater for gluten free and dairy free but not a lot of choice for the two together. Sensational breakfast is included in price I paid and it was very well cooked as wall the evening meals I had.

Plenty of parking to be had

I'd stay again

What a lovely place the Lathkil is. We arrived on a beautiful Tuesday evening around 20:15. There were patrons sat outside enjoying the late evening with food and drinks. We checked in, a very easy process btw, and then headed down to enjoy a drink. The view from the front of the hotel is beautiful, and we enjoyed a walk the next morning down in the valley below along the picturesque river, stunning.
The food was lovely, albeit we only had breakfast in the mornings, and even a late change to our order was easily coped with and dealt with.
The room was adequate, not the largest, but clean and comfortable with a fridge for our use (that came in handy on the hot nights!!).
The only small criticism was that our room was over-looked by the car park (and sadly not the beautiful view to the front of the hotel), and we had to keep the curtains closed as there were no blinds fitted to the window.
Be careful when walking up the stairs to your room….there is an extra step at the top as you turn left and it will catch you out!!
The staff were very friendly and always helpful, bar prices seemed pretty good!
A short taxi ride (2 miles) in to the beautiful Bakewell, we were advised to always book the taxi in advance, price of the taxi was pretty decent (just over £7)….taxi numbers were provided by the pub staff.
Thanks to all the staff at the Lathkil, we hope to visit again.

Excellent place to stop for a drink or lunch during a pleasant walk in the Peak District. Set just above beautiful Lathkill Dale, the hotel offers tasty lunches at avery affordable price. We had a starter folloed by a fish finger sandwich with a twist. All was delicious! Good choice of drinks including locally sourced ales , beers, wines and non alcoholic beverages, plus teas and coffees. Suitable for couples and families. Free parking available. Well worth a visit

We were on an 8 mile walk and decided to stop here for a break as we came across it mid walk. We had bought 2 glasses of Pepsi from the bar, and got out our homemade snack while we sat at the back of the outside area. One of the staff members came over and very rudely told us we couldn't eat anything we had brought ourselves while sat on their premises, even with a bought drink (costing a lot more than the snack itself.)

Ok fair enough with not eating our own snack (I don't agree, but respect their rule) ... However she was extremely RUDE in her tone and her use of words really wasn't needed! We apologised and put our snack away straight away but she stormed off and kept passing evidently to 'check' we didn't get our snack back out, which made us feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome.

A simple, mature approach would have been fine. We didn't appreciate the impoliteness of the whole situation. We definitely will NOT ever return and will not recommend. I see other reviews have picked up on the rudeness also, so I assume it wasn't just a one off.

Visited this lovely little pub/hotel twice whilst we were stopping in over hadden for a mini break. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

There was a choice of 4 real ales which were well kept. The wine list is smallish but still a choice and reasonably priced.
The food was very good and value for money. I had pie both nights. Both nights it came with chips and plenty of veg. Good portion sizes. On the second night it was pie night which meant a pie chips and peas with a drink (in my case a pint of ale) for £12.00. Which was excellent value for money. Sadly we were too full to try their deserts as we had both had starters. I would describe the as good wholesome pub food at a good price.

On the second night they had a quiz. This was so much fun. The person who set the quiz had certainly spent a long time sorting it as each answer was linked to the previous answer. Sadly we did not win but it was the most fun you could have for a couple of pounds. They have the quiz every Wednesday and it is well attended

As previously stated the staff were friendly and nothing was to much trouble.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Lathkil hotel. Our room looked out on the amazing view across the beautiful Lathkil dale, despite being small it was clean and offered everything we needed. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good, although limited, had to preorder the night before.
We were glad to be able to eat at the hotel each evening after each day of exploring.
It seems a popular place with locals and walkers passing by.
Such a quiet restful place we really relaxed, a beautiful area. Thank you

Called in for lunch today following a lovely walk. Stunning views from the hotel garden however thats all that was good. Had the quich off the specials which was ok but the red coleslaw was tasteless and past its best. Three dry new potatoes accompanied this, no butter or dressing, not worth eating. My partner had beef and horseradish ciabatta and cheesy chips. Both tasteless and again accompanied by rubbish red coleslaw. To top this off drink served in a cracked glass.
Mentioned the glass being cracked when paying as we didn’t want anyone else being served this, however we were not asked about the food or we would have commented.
Will not be returning.

Having been relieved of planned baby sitting duties, we contacted the hotel last minute to check for vacancies. The hotel had just one small room left at the rear but reduced the price as it was last minute. The room was warm, clean and perfect for an overnight stop New Year’s Eve.
We also booked and joined the NYE meal and disco. Excellent vfm; a simple meal and good disco with s hard working team of DJs. The hotel staff were friendly and very welcoming, treating we first timers as regulars. After a modest meal and enjoyable evening with a good few Porter beers (again good value), we retired at about 01:30hrs for a comfortable nights sleep. Following a hearty well cooked breakfast it was off for s 4 1/2 hour walk to blow cobwebs off.
Thank you for a lovely, good vfm stay. We will be back.

We stopped here for a bite to eat at lunchtime and had a beetroot falafel roll which came with a lovely salad. It was so good we returned the following evening which was pie night (Wednesday) and had curried chickpea pie and then once more that week and had the vegan burger. They cater very well for vegans and the food seems very much home cooked. It is very friendly and the views are fantastic. Dogs are allowed in the bar area.
