Not many people know this gem of a cortijo, 2 hours by car from Faro, A perfect retreat and starting point for discovering Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park, the beaches of Huelva ( Mazagon is our favourite), both under 75 minutes by car. The Iberian black pig homage to Jabugo, the mines of Rio Tinto and it's British quarter, Bella Vista, the Columbus Maritime museum in Palos and the Mosque in Al Monaster, to Donana National Park as well as the caves of Aracena and all the small town and village.

Sylvia and Antonio are the discrete and wonderful owners who share their home and small houses with guests all year, Lying by the pool and wondering around this rich estate with it's orange and lemon trees, you could be forgiven for thinking you have reached heaven.

It is simply a haven of tranquility from which you can walk, cycle, go on horseback, for wonderful trips in the spectacular countryside, or go further to to the places mentioned or Seville, and be back in the evening to watch the stars and listen to the cicadas with the scent of azhar lingering in the air,

We go every year and love it more and more, Forget the costas, This is the place.

We visited with Sylvia and Antonio this month and spent some time with them. What an incredible experience. The property is absolutely beautiful and the hospitality is also incredible. Very clean and quiet. I would highly recommend a stay at La Caldera Vieja.

An absolutely fabulous, quirky country guesthouse with a difference. Guests receive a very warm home-baked welcome from Sylvia! Stunning location. Comfortable bedrooms. Charming living room with open fire and cosy seating areas. Lovely outdoor seating areas for warmer months. Excellent breakfasts, including scrambled eggs with a twist and hot buttered toast with homemade marmalade and jams.

We have stayed a couple of nights and was wonderful, we were in a lovely cottage, fully equipped for our comfort, surrounded by flowers, lovely pool area, beautiful different areas indoor and outdoor, like patios with grapevines. Very relaxing place to stay and enjoy nature. It is located outside the town so no traffic noise. Sylvia served us a beautiful breakfast! And plenty of it.
Gave us a beautiful cherry cake in the afternoon, very hospitable. Both Sylvia and Antonio great hosts. My husband enjoyed a couple of aniseed drinks with Antonio. We will certainly recommend this place in Spain and in Australia.
