Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had 5 fun nights camping here - 2 families of 4 plus dog. Very friendly relaxed staff.
Spacious pitches with freedom to have real camp fires and no restrictions re gazebos.
Adequate little shop and washing up facilities. The toilets were being cleaned 2-3 times a day and all the Covid-19 restrictions were in place.
We took a camp shower and rigged up a tarpaulin or al fresco showering! All good fun.

Nice campsite, open fires permitted, on site shop well stocked, fishing pond and river on edge of site.
Town easily walked to with fish & Chip shop, Indian, coffee shops, small supermarket.
Toilets could do with a refurb with bigger sinks.
Showers… don’t rush to get there early as absolutely freezing till late morning, and I mean freezing 🥶🥶 however sanitiser provided in toilets, showers, washing up stations etc and masks had to be worn in shops, so good Covid precautions 😊
Plenty of room for tents, caravans. Dog friendly however no poo bins on site..

Welcoming owners, plenty of space and we got a nice pitch in the woods.
Otherwise pretty disappointing. Campsite shop is massively oversold. Don't know where the 150 beers were! We saw about 15 different types, all of which you could easily get in a supermarket. Available food was limited and all Happy Shopper stuff rather than local produce. We were much better off at the Co-op down the road.
Staff tried hard to keep toilets and showers clean but they were fighting a losing battle as too few facilities for the number of people on site. Showers also don't work when all of them, plus the kitchen sinks are in use. Missing the basics like hooks for clothes and toiletry shelf.

Thank you for your review. You are quite right regarding the shop stock, we are a small site and try to stock items that people both need and want, and as such stock has changed throughout the years. We've updated our website accordingly, and we hope that this didn't spoil your holiday too much. We also take on board your other comments and thank you for taking the time to write a review.

We have just come back from this campsite and as a group of 7 adults and 2 children we are already looking to return next year. We had a wonderful time.
Having read reviews prior to going, we were quite worried about the toilets and showers however there was absolutely nothing wrong with them - the toilets were cleaned a few times a day, there was always toilet paper and soap. It's a campsite, with lots of children therefore tissue on the floor doesn't make them dirty. The showers were quite powerful and mostly hot, although I had one tepid shower (not the end of the world).
The shop had basic provisions but there was a supermarket 10-15 mins walk from the site into the village and a lovely farm shop 10 mins drive away. There were also a few tables outside the shop where you could sit and have a drink or two.
The outside kitchen was great with microwave, toaster and electric kettle. There were large fridges and a washing machine and tumble dryer you could use (small charge for the last two).
The river was a bit reedy but my partner took the two children and they still managed to catch 5 perch in an hour.
The atmosphere on the campsite was lovely, very chilled and really pretty.
Basically, its a campsite therefore we had no expectations of 5 star luxury and out of the few campsites we've been to as a group, this was our favourite.

First things first, upon arrival Alun is there to welcome you, quickly book you in and talk you though what spots are available.

Its very relaxed and this is what we liked, no fuss just get on with the task of putting the tent up and getting sorted.

size is no issue, you can park next to your tent and we had a gazebo as well. Our chidrens nan also came to visit and again no problem at all.

When we needed information Alun was there and when we needed an ice cold beer Alun was there..... perfect.

We fished in the river and caught a small roach and even had a dip as it is not deep and fine for my 3 and 5 year old. plenty of fry in the river to catch with nets also.

All the staff were welcoming and said hello and the facilities were cleaned constantly.

On our last night, Alun gave the children a lot of glow stick and connectors which made their evening, followed by marshmellows on the fire. We also ordered a pizza directly to the site.

Booked to go back in a few weeks for another few nights as the children enjoyed it so much and the whole expereince was just easy and again, relaxed.

My booking was dealt with easily & efficiently by email. 1 pitch for 1 night then 3 pitches for a further 3 nights. Plan was to pitch up with my hubby the 1st night then he would leave next morning & I would await the arrival of my 2 friends. 1st disaster was friend no.1 got covid so couldn't come at all. Hubby & I arrived, chose our pitch & set up. The owner's son explained all & was good to see free access to fridge/freezer/kettle/toaster/microwave as well as usual showers/ washing up facilities etc. Good site shop, too. Hubby left next morning. Friend no.2 set off in her campervan which overheated & broke down long before she even hit the A12! She eventually got her van home & said she'd arrive the following day with a tent instead! Alone & with time on my hands I explained our situation to the owner who said I could await friend no.2, OR abandon the trip & all of us could return at a later date & commence our trip again. This effectively gave me 2 free nights camping & I rebooked there & then for us all to return in September. Flexible, thoughtful & generous! Much appreciated.

This is a lovely site, with plenty of open spaces. It was the end of season, so by the time we left it was almost empty after a busy weekend. All the showers were locked on our last morning, apart from in the female area.
Metered electricity, but we used very little.
Compared to club sites, there were a number of small improvements that would make the experience better.
Showers were hot and a strong flow, but needed a small shelf for shampoo, soap etc while showering. There were hooks for clothes, but a stool would been good. The only mirrors seemed to be in the toilet cubicles, as were the washbasins for cleaning teeth.
Toilet cubicles and showers would benefit from an upgrade over the winter.
Lack of heating can probably be explained by the fact the site closes for the winter.
Shop seemed well stocked, but we didn’t need it.
We noticed patches where fires had been used. It might be worth putting small concrete areas on which fires could be used, avoiding damage to the grass.
Whilst based there, we visited Framlingham Castle and Orford Castle for days out.
For tent campers the washing up sinks, microwave and kettle will have been well received.

This was my second visit to The Orchard Campsite. Last year I visited with my brother and niece. This year myself and 4 friends came along together.
It's a lovely site, allowing fires. Really well situated for exploring some of the best coastal spots of Suffolk too with Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Dunwich and Southwold all only about 30 minutes drive away. For adventures on foot without the car there are plenty of beautiful local walks.
The staff are super friendly and there are no strict arrive and depart times.
Facilities are fairly standard. The shop which is usually open until quite, a savour when beers or chocolate run out.
The River Deben runs by the bottom of the site and is a favorite for all ages cooling off.
On Saturday evenings the kids are all given glow sticks to have fun with.
I'll be back every year. This year was a great escape after lockdown.

Can’t fault this place. With anytime ‘check in’ me and my husband arrived shortly after lunch and were greeted by Alan, the friendly co owner of the site. He talked us through the campsite and where we could stay and said that we were welcome to pick any spot we so wished.

My husband and I chose a corner spot near the river as our dogs can be a little reactive if they’re too close to anyone else. Upon driving through the orchard campsite, we realised that close proximity to others was not going to be an issue. We had ample space and then some. There was a set of swings for our girls to play on and facilities where they were able to sit and do some colouring or reading (plenty of books for them to choose from) whilst we did the washing up. The drinking water station was very handy and the newly refurbed washrooms were really well cleaned and looked after. They are not your bog standard campsite showers (no swimming pool changing room vibes!). There was plenty of toilets that were cleaned very frequently. I would say that Alan mentioned there was a Duke of Edinburgh group that would be arriving whilst we were there but this was not an issue at all as the sheer space of the campsite meant that there was no disturbance to us anyway. Plus, it was great to see some older kids having outdoor, wholesome fun camping!
We are already searching for dates on the calendar where we are able to return and recommend to anybody who wants the ‘wild camping’ choice of picking your own pitch with the comfort of great facilities! Wish we could keep this slice of heaven a secret for ourselves

Positives- Good location for exploring Suffolk, nice size campsite and children can explore on site, Nice staff, friendly cat and glow sticks for kids on some nights, can easily have campfires and shop is well stocked, flexible check out time is very useful. Close to town for supermarket, lovely dark site to see the stars, campfires allowed.
Negatives- very few showers and toilets and they were often dirty, many potholes meant flat pitching difficult and a risk of twisted ankle when playing football, some pitches were close to others but this did depend on where you were on the site, playground is just 2 swings and kids seem to be on them from 6am till midnight with no body telling them to stop screaming.
