After a long lockdown we took advantage of the relaxation of restrictions to book a short self catering cottage stay for 3 night starting on the first available day of April 12th. We wanted somewhere in the vicinity of Hull where my wife's parents are so we could meet up with them for days out, but also somewhere that would feel like a holiday.
Wold Cottage ticked all the boxes, the Granary is lovely accommodation with 2 great sized rooms, one double and one twin, both ensuite. Lovely kitchen and dining area with a log burner, fully supplied kitchen - and the highlight, a beautiful private hot tub in your own courtyard. In addition to this, the cottage is located in lovely farmyard grounds, with the garden area of the property immaculately maintained and with lots of seating areas to enjoy. We were fortunate to have amazing sunny weather so we used this space a number of times.
Our hosts live on site in their house, and were very welcoming with freshly baked bread, fresh eggs and other nice welcoming touches waiting for us when we arrived. Them being on site was non-intrusive and was great to have them available for any teething issues.
We had some lovely days out whilst there to Filey, Bridlington and Dalby Forest, the scenic drives were amazing and something not to be missed and were always happy to come back home to the cottage.
There is one other cottage next door called the Hayloft, we saw the other guests a couple of times but everything is very private, particularly the hot tub area.
So in summary, I would 100% recommend looking at a booking for the Granary. The only reason this does not have 5 stars is because I am somewhat of a tough rater and only give out 5 stars to places that are out of this world, but this gets a very solid 4!
There were just two of us but the accommodation suited us perfectly. The Hayloft is situated overlooking the most fabulous garden and grounds. There was a comfortable garden bench with cushions provided, just outside our front door, which gave us a beautiful view of the gardens. In addition, there were also lots of other places in the garden to sit , and it was so quiet and peaceful, with just the birds for company.
The living room also had a lovely view of the garden. The kitchen was very well equipped and both the en suite shower room and additional bathroom off the second bedroom were of a high quality. The owners were most hospitable and friendly.
It was our first visit to the Yorkshire Wolds and we were captivated by the whole area
Lots of excellent walking, both inland and on the coast. Plus some great houses and gardens locally, open to the public, and little villages which had been there since Medieval times, tucked away waiting to be discovered
Altogether a wonderful holiday, and we’d thoroughly recommend The Hayloft.
There are plenty of places of interest to visit nearby and the coast with the resorts of Filey and Bridlington are easily reached. The RSPB site of Bempstone Cliffs are also easily reached.
A mine of local information, Katrina can assist with recommendations for pubs and restaurants, to nature reserves, gardens and many other places of interest and outdoor pursuits. Do book directly by telephone, Katrina give you a best price and enjoy a quick chat to find out if you have any particular wishes so she can accommodate them ….. early or late check-in, celebrations, surprises, etc.
Can’t recommend this wonderful home-from-home enough. The only negative is having to leave at the end of your stay.
The house is beautifully decorated and very tastefully furnished. Our room, Miss Davey, is elegant and has a huge wet room and slipper bath. The atmosphere is completely relaxed but everything is done to a very high standard, including an excellent breakfast with lots of choice.
The location is perfect for lots of visits, including the Hockney trail in the Wolds.
Outstanding in every way and very good value for money.
The rooms were spacious, modern and clean. We had everything we needed. The grounds of the property are stunning.
The breakfast was beautiful with a good choice from cereals, fruits, yoghurts/jams, fruit juices and your choice of cooked breakfast. Our last day we had some beautiful fresh bread.
Thank you for a lovely stay.
Our 2 young boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We would definitely stay again.
This is an excellent base to explore North Yorkshire.
The North Bay at Scarborough has a beautiful blue flag beach.
The grounds to the cottages are stunning and very well maintained.
If we can ever find someone to stay at home with our housewolf again we will definitely stay here, there's so much to explore a week simply wasn't enough.
