Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful hotel - very charming, traditional and low-key luxe. Very comfortable beds. Excellent food and service. I came on business, and will definitely return for a leisurely weekend and to sample the spa.

The hotel was lovely, before my stay the hotel let me know there was a wedding on and music might be heard in the restaurant, this was a lovely touch and I was more than happy to have my meal and listen to the happy sounds coming from the wedding. The room was luxurious, it was well appointed and the bed, the easy chairs and little table gave the room a lovely quality feel. The bathroom had a big bath, shower and marble throughout the bathroom. The toiletries were very welcome and there were fluffy towels to cuddle up in to after a wash. The tea and coffee provided were a cut above the usual and the artisan shortbread was delicious. Robert Carrier was a childhood hero of mine and I was excited to come to a hotel with the heritage and kudos of a restauranteur of his calibre. Sadly the meals are the only low points of my stay. The starter was so disappointing, the scallops were just the shaved tops off a scallop with a funny mousse underneath, not sure what that was about. The menu indicated there were truffles, I couldn’t work out where they were. The complementary bread and amuse-bouche were really special. However, when I enquired what was the name of the “wild mushroom” in the amuse-bouche (I was genuinely interested as I forage mushrooms as a hobby), the waitress looked at me as though I was a bit of a nutter and never came back with an answer. Really disappointing with that. The lobster and prawn linguine was really average and the pasta was “grey” and not a great eat. The pudding pulled it back, that was lovely and I’m glad I ordered it, I nearly didn’t based on the two previous disappointing courses. Breakfast was also a disappointment, I had to seat myself. I waited for what seemed like an age and I was starting to feel embarrassed just standing there. The breakfast consisted of a poached egg that was hard and the egg white looked a stringy mess. The hash brown was overcooked and I gave up on it, it was really unpleasant. The bacon and sausage were good quality, shame the egg and hash brown weren’t so good. I’m not sure I’d stay again as I was really looking forward to the food and I felt really let down by that side of things.

We stayed here Saturday as part of a function. The room we had was one we stayed in before and raised issues about then regarding the amount of dead bugs and flies in the room and around the dirty windows. Sadly the issue remains. There is no light to sit and get ready for the evening. Water pressure is poor and the shower stopped working during my shower. The evening food was lovely but breakfast was horrible. Couples arrived at all different times, no tea or coffee offered or additional toast as people were seated. Everyone's eggs were solid and a member of our party had burnt pancakes I am surprised they were even plated. Had I paid £24.50 each I'd have been very annoyed. If we stayed again for an event I'd not stay in heart of Oak and I wouldn't book again if not part of a function.

We stayed at Hintlesham Hall on Saturday night. It was wonderful, our room was gorgeous, spacious, comfortable and luxurious. The evening meal was perfect and the atmosphere welcoming. The staff from the moment you arrive to departure are friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and couldn’t be more helpful. We are definitely coming back soon.

My friend took 3 of us for afternoon tea, it was absolutely amazing, one of the ladies said it was better than the afternoon tea at the Savoy. I would highly recommend you giving it a visit. The staff were lovely and nothing was to much trouble. We sat on beautiful sofas and we spent all afternoon chatting.

Bedbug problem. We had two problems, 1. Finding a live bedbug in our bed, 2. The poor way the management dealt with this. A lady from reception did come to the room, kill and remove the bedbug, but in out two days we could not speak to management about this and they made no effort to contact us. It was only one bug we were told, but there is never only one bug. The hotel does look nice. Vicky one of the waitresses was excellent throughout our stay, and all the servers were good.

Response from Zoe Bell, Guest Services / Front Office at Hintlesham Hall

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We can assure you that was not a bedbug that you found in your bed, we actually kept the bug to show our pest control. Bedbugs are very hard to see and there wouldn't have just been one that was found and we certainly wouldn't have been able to pick it up as the are minute. You failed to mention that we offered to move you to an alternative room for the duration of your stay which you did not want to do. Your room was thoroughly inspected the following morning by our housekeeping supervisor and nothing was found. We are aware there is a lot of media regarding bedbugs currently and anyone coming into the hotel could be carrying them in, however we have put in place extra checks whilst cleaning the hotel. Thankyou once again for your feed back and acknowledging Vicky and we hope you enjoyed your time at your friends wedding.

We have a lovely overnight stay with a perfectly cooked meal. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The rooms are absolutely beautiful, clean and very large. Breakfast in the morning was also spot on. The garden and house are a lovely place to explore.

First time stay here and have been in better hotel/Spa resorts I'm afraid. We wanted to really like this hotel as we live locally. We arrived on Saturday to be told about a power cut (not the fault of the hotel) and have our spa treatments cancelled. Not realising you can only use the spa area if you have a booking we decided to go home for a cup of tea. Nothing was on offer at the hotel due to the power cut. Most spa hotels we have stayed at have saunas, steam rooms and pool areas so we were quite disappointed by the lack of facilities. Room was nice and clean with a comfy bed. We had a main meal elsewhere but came back for drinks. Staff appeared rushed and were talking loudly in main areas of the hotel which we didn't find relaxing. Most were younger people and we did hear some swearing. Staff mentions go to Vicky, who was lovely, and a friendly housekeeper on Sunday morning Nice setting, but lack of spa facilities and poor attention to detail in a 4 star hotel were disappointing.

What a fabulous hotel Hintlesham Hall is. We got married here October 2022 and returned for our wedding anniversary on the same date this year. We were given the same beautiful room and received such a lovely welcome once again. The staff are attentive and we felt very well looked after throughout out stay. We live close by and will be returning for meals here as the food is fabulous as well. We had a very reasonable deal which included some of our evening meal cost and breakfast. Thank you once again and a special mention goes to Zoe Bell who arranged the wedding and this stay for us. Just superb.
