I'm in shock at how filthy this place is, it is not fit to be open to the general public! We booked the ground floor apartment for 3 nights and left soon after arriving, the pictures speak for themselves! I don't understand how the staff thought it was acceptable to offer people such disgusting accommodation that had clearly not been cleaned in a long time, especially in the current circumstances with Covid. Such a shame as the place has great potential.

Nice room although a little small and some furniture badly stained. Room and bathroom were clean. Comfortable bed, perfect for a nights stay. We had a ‘to go’ breakfast which was ok but we decided to go to a local garden centre instead. Friendly staff.

Myself and my fiancé visited the Godwins over the weekend, it was the first time we had been out since restrictions have been lifted and was blown away with the professionalism of the staff. During these difficult times and especially for the hospitality industry, we didn’t really know what to expect, but I really could not recommend this lovely, scenic hotel more. If I was being critical, the only issue we had was the window wouldn’t open, but Laura the manageress was more than accommodating and brought us up a fan for the room. I absolutely wouldn’t hesitate in visiting this beautiful hotel again in the not so much distant future, if your after a nice little getaway with the most gorgeous countryside right on your doorstep, look no further than the Godwins hotel.

We stayed one night last week. The entrance hall was filthy. We were handed our key by a disinterested member of staff at 9.45pm (no face mask) who told us that the bar would close at 10pm then she would leave our breakfast outside our door. We opened the bedroom door at 10.30 and sure enough, there was a paper carrier bag hanging on the handle. Contents, two mini corn flakes, two plastic wrapped, clearly cheap, pain au chocolat, two apples, which were utterly tasteless, two long life mini orange juices, two paper bowls, two plastic teaspoons, carton of milk for cereal. No means of refrigerating anything. All this despite the website saying that breakfast could be preordered and in the dining room. There were two cups provided for tea/coffee. We shared one because the other one was cracked, stained and dirty. The room, in keeping with the rest of the hotel that we could see, had clearly not been cleaned for ages, let alone daily. Dust dirt and cobwebs showing everywhere so who knows what might have been on surfaces and not showing?? Covid safe - I don't think so. Rooms were advertised as having antibac wipes in all rooms for customers use - no sign of those either. Not sure how impressed the HSE would be with the evidence that the table lamp was last PAT checked in 2016! We left in the morning with no sign of any staff to speak to. Non-existant management whose only interest clearly is to take your money. We all know that the hospitality industry has had an impossibly hard time over the last year, and now that thing are beginning to open up some are trying incredibly hard. This hotel obviously simply could not care less. You've booked, they've taken your £85, end of. I wish I could give this place zero out of five. Avoid at all costs.

We were very underwhelmed by our 4 night stay at The Godwin’s last week. Having looked at the photos of this stunning building we had high expectations which were sorely dashed when upon arrival we were met at the door by a member of staff dressed as Spider-Man! When we enquired if there was a special event he informed us that it was bank holiday weekend and they just fancied it.... Things didn’t get better from thereon. Our room was perfectly pleasant but boiling hot and the mattress was lumpy with flat pillows (should have bought my own from home but ended up buying some from M&S in Hereford). Having said that, husband didn’t mind pillows so that’s probably just me! We had awful breakfast left outside door comprising Kellogg’s cereal, apple and inedible pan au chocolate in wrapper (long life type). There is a little village shop up the road that does hot breakfast baps and other provisions. We didn’t have any housekeeping and had to request more towels and loo roll twice. The staff were pleasant but elusive; lucky to find anyone around but the staff room/reception door was always open and very untidy. There were dirty glasses left on surfaces in communal areas for days and it just felt neglected and uncared for. This magnificent building must once have been a wonderful place and it’s a shame that it’s just not as good as it could be. Ok for a one night stay but we had booked for 4 nights which was a bit depressing.
