We stayed for 3 nights at Mutara Camp last month and it was the best stay i've ever had. The food is by far the best food i've had in Kenya (we stayed at 2 other luxury lodges) or elsewhere. The rooms are very clean and the bed is amazing. The staff is very friendly and helpfull and made our stay even more wonderfull. The most special thing was the location of the hotel: in the middle of the nature and surrounded by animals. The rooms and dining area look out on the drinking place for the animals, and we saw giraffes coming by everyday which was really special.

The Jambo Mutara Camp was the most special, beautiful and best place i have ever stayed at, and i hope to come back here someday.

A tip for the hotel: this place is not very easy to find online and the prices and availability on booking vary a lot, we felt like it was not very accurate.

To begin with, i am totally overwhelmed to say how touched i am with this camp. It is a hidden gem and i totally am in love with it. To begin with the rooms are totally beautiful we were a family of eight and three rooms were totally perfect. They are tented camps each having a view of its own either the waterhole or the mount kenya view. The rooms are super luxorious and the beds are super relaxing along with a tea and coffee corner and the most relaxing outdoor bath that overlooks through the mutara conservency.
Talking about the staff, super friendly and supportive along with having amazing wildlife information. Not to mention HILLARY was the one that served us specifically and was a pure soul. He was extremely sweet and was my brothers bestfriend.
Moving on to the food. It was ala- carte and the chef talked to us personally according to our dietary intake and favourites and we also received a surprise margarita pizza. How cool 😋
The menu was delicious and filling along with a cool off with ice cream to beat the heat.
To warm ourselves the camp offers a bed heating system which provides the most relaxing sleep and a tulia massage is also available per charges
I would like to end by thanking the mangement and the staff for providing us with a homely experience and i cant wait to visit once again

I can't praise Mutara Camp highly enough. The staff all went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible - going well beyond the norm. For instance, two of them drove an hour out and an hour back to collect us after a car accident, at night, on our way there, and then when we got to the camp after eleven pm. the chef was patiently waiting to cook us a very welcome hot meal. The accommodation is extremely comfortable, and the food is delicious. The game viewing is good too, although big cats weren't about while we were there. Very highly recommended.

Fantastic place, great food and amazing service. 15 total tents and has a swimming pool too. We came here with family in July, weather was a slight cold and the staff made sure we have excellent conditions to sleep. The road to this place could have been better.

The team ( Erick and co) are very friendly, extremely helpful and go out of their way to ensure the stay is memorable.

The nature walk is refreshing and when it started raining they picked us from the Bush.

The tents are big and well furnished , with a private balcony and lots of privacy. It got quite windy at night, but there’s lots of warm bedding to keep you warm. They add a hot water bottle as part of the turn down service.

The food variety would have been better and the portions were good. The chef is extremely friendly and helpful.

It’s a quiet and secluded camp, the cost is a bit high, but I guess exclusivity comes at a price.

My stay started with a welcome drink and a view of two families of elephants facing off at the watering hole, I was amazed and fell in love.
The staff were amazing, friendly and so attentive. The lounge area is a lovely place to relax.
On the first evening I went for a bush walk with Anthony, walking past giraffe, elephant and antelope and at sun down we were met by the team who lit camp fire and enjoyed drinks. On return my room had been zipped up, the bed made and prepared for night with mosquito net draped and hot water bottle in the bed.
The next morning I was out at sun rise on foot again with Anthony this time we saw giraffe, zebra and hyena. Anthony was so knowledgeable and friendly.
I only stayed 2 nights but I have to go back.
Much love.

We have been on safari in Kenya more than 25 times since the early 1990s yet have never come across this camp or conservancy. In fact we only came here as the lodge we were originally booked into had unfortunately been washed away in the recent floods.

Mutara Camp is stunning - both in facilities and location. Food was exceptional and the range of drinks extensive. All staff were very helpful, attentive and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our games drive with Ebong, Patrick and Dido, who were all very knowledgeable. We stayed here 4 nights over New Year and are already planning to come back for 5 nights later in the year.

The New Year's eve BBQ around a camp fire with traditional dancers was a lovely experience - despite us having seen similar many times over the years.

Overall, Dido (the Camp Manager) and his team made us feel welcomed, special and valued and I would highly recommend Mutara.

The tents are gorgeous, very spacious and comfortable, with good views and privacy. The infinity pool offers amazing views of the water hole and was one of my favorite things about the camp. The food was delicious, chef made sure we had good vegetarian options. Very friendly and polite staff, would specifically like to mention Dido who was so polite and professional. Overall, loved the place and will definitely visit again.

I'm the lazy person that rarely writes reviews but for this, I must

I stayed at Jambo Mutara for 5 nights as a solo traveller. I was received so warmly upon my arrival. The camp is well integrated with its surroundings and I instantly loved it. I must admit that my big motivation for choosing this camp was the pictures I had seen particularly those of the pool area and my expectations were 100% met.

Breathtaking views of the watering hole from the pool area where elephants pop in every now and then for a drink. Lovely pool with a little waterfall to cool off the heat from the midday sun. Magical sunsets from my bathtub that was positioned strategically on the balcony outside my room. It's surely a glorious place to be.

My room was immaculately done and was always kept clean. I fell in love with the scenic pool area and would stay there for most of the day. It's really sweet that they served my food, dessert and drinks there.

I was the only guest at the hotel for a few of the days and was given special attention but even when more guests came in, the service levels did not alter.

I enjoyed early morning sunrise walks with my guide Lolimo, evening bush walks and sundowners. Lolimo is so intelligent and super patient. He knows so much about animal behaviour and birds. I learnt so much from him. I also enjoyed a late afternoon game drive at Ol Pejeta conservancy, saw lots of animals, visited the rhino conservancy and met Baraka (google him).

I'm a fussy eater but the chef always asked me what I fancied and managed to stir up excellent meals all the time. Shout out to Steve and thank you so much.

Thanks to Alex and Becky for being so caring and always catering to me with a smile (and for agreeing to take many many pictures of me). Alex would serve my food while telling me interesting facts about the big cats. He made me really love elephants- superb catering. Becky set up my last breakfast at the pool area as it was my favourite place - very thoughtful.

Special thanks to the camp manager Dido for always checking up on me, having dinner with me on the nights I was alone at the camp while telling me funny stories, sending dinner to my room when I was tired after the evening game drive, for being very warm and kind and for making my stay absolutely fantastic. He really embodies hospitality! Thanks a million.

I will definitely visit again and would highly recommend this place to all my friends (and to you STRANGER) reading this review. You're gonna love it 100% no doubt.

Top dollar, top service! Everything was super. Not a single complaint.

I had the distinct pleasure of staying at Mutara this past October while on a trip with Micato Safaris, and it was everything I could have wanted and more. The property is stunningly positioned on a hill overlooking a very active watering hole. The facilities are impeccable with top-notch amenities such as a brilliant lounge and beautiful infinity pool. But the real treasure here is the amazing staff that works there. Wallace and his amazing colleagues created the most incredible experience for us that we simply will never ever forget. Whether it be breakfast in the bush, sundowners on a hillside, or a gorgeous bonfire dinner, they take everything to the next level. Their attention to detail and care is so evident in everything they do. They even cared so much as to help us improve our Swahili every single day. I truly miss them all and appreciate their devotion so deeply. Thank you to everyone at Mutara for honestly changing my life for the better. I hope our paths cross again someday.

That will depend on the weather. If you are coming from Nairobi you can take tarmac all the way to Nanyuki and then dirt road into Ol Pejeta, go through Ol Pej, but you will go through the Wilderness section where four wheel is recommended, but the roads are semi maintained gravel, so depending on weather you should be okay. Or, you can take tarmac road to Nanyuki to the Nanyuki-Rumurati road which isn't paved either, but in good weather you can negotiate without 4 wheel drive. The drive from the road to the camp is pretty short and easy. I wouldn't recommend either route in rainy weather unless you have 4 wheel drive.
