A dream location for walkers, this place is just off the coastal path. Very peaceful with beautiful views out over the garden to the sea. We got a genuine friendly and helpful welcome - having being able to abandon our car earlier in the day so we could start some walking. The room was great with a really nice seating area; more of a suite than a room. The furniture is so in keeping with the building. We loved it. The biggest surprise was the quality of evening food. From the first mouthful we decided we would definitely be eating there the following day. All in all it’s a great place to stay…and eat.

I was very well taken care of at this former rectory. There is an honesty bar in the common lounge. There is a working fireplace in there as well, which is lit on cooler nights. I loved the large mugs in the room for a good cuppa. The bathroom had a huge bathroom for a good soak after a long day of walking. Big, comfy bathrobes are provided as well. The breakfast and packed lunch are ordered the night before. Dinner is available but you need to request when booking or before you arrive.

What a find this place is! Dave greeted us at the door wiht a warm welcom and I knew we'd made a great choice. We stayed in the 'Jack' room in the section of the house dating from the 1850s (the rest is 1750s). Lovely spacious room, very high quality linens. Windows overlooking the countryside, and one with a sea view. Ectremely comfortable bed, excellent and roomy shower room. The rooms were thoughtfully provided with binoculars for bird watching, tea and coffee facilities and a fridge with milk and water. There's information about the history of the house, suggestions for local places to eat, and details of the many beautiful walks nearby. The communal lounge has a lovely coal fire and an honestly bar. Dave and Jude's beautiful cats occasionally made an appearance for a stroke and a purr. The breakfasts were outstanding. Locally roasted coffee, eggs from the hens in the garden, very high quality local ingredients across the board. The full English was great and I loved the kedgeree with poached egg. Yogurt with homemade fruit compote was delicious as well. Note for those with mobility issues - as is common with heritage buildings, there are a lot of stairs - a main staircase but little sets of 3 up, 4 down etc between the rooms which is worth bearing in mind if you struggle.…

Dave and Jude are phenomenal hosts. We stayed in their truly adorable, every-detail-thought-of Shepherd's Hut. It's beautifully decorated with exquisite views and lots of treats to keep you fed and watered in between meals. We woke to a lovely mist on the meadow outside the window over the bed, just able to see some cows happily munching through the sea fog. Our evening meal (Craster Kipper bon bons for starters, lamb shank with mashed for mains, chocolate mousse for dessert) was one of the best we've ever had as a couple - no kidding - and we were seated with a lovely view of the garden. For breakfast they greeted us with two of the most generous and delicious breakfast sandwiches ever. You will not regret staying here and I bet you will be back again and again! We are already planning our next visit. …

What a warm welcoming vibe the Old Rectory gives out to its visitors. Mainly due to the wonderful hosts Jude and Dave, they are both delightful. We stayed in the Shepherd’s hut for 3 nights; the bed is extremely comfortable and we slept like babes. Every morning a delicious breakfast sandwich was delivered to our door - all local produce and eggs from their very own chickens. We also dined in the Rectory one evening, Dave cooked us a wholesome first class 3 course meal, served expertly by Jude. We often relaxed with a drink or two in the rather comfortable lounge before retiring to the Hut and ‘that bed’. The location, Howick, is perfect for exploring the magical Northumberland coast. We were a stones throw from the sea and could walk the coast down to Craster and Dunstanburgh castle. Thank you Jude and Dave for making our stay truly memorable - say hello to the cats, especially Eddie, ducks and chickens. …

The room was wonderful, and the food excellent. Our hosts Dave and Jude were extremely friendly and welcoming. I don't know if we will be in that part of the world again, but if we are, we will find a reason to stay at the Old Rectory again.

The Old Rectory is such a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable and it was so good to spend a cosy evening in the sitting room with it's real fire, enjoying a drink from the well stocked honesty bar. Jules and Dave are amazing hosts. Their breakfasts and meals are varied and completely delicious. When you venture into the garden, you might even meet their family of ducks and hens. If you're planning to stay in the north east, make sure you spend a few days at the Old Rectory.

Stayed in The Holly. The most comfy kingsize bed! Hosts are brilliant, Dave and Jude are a fab couple and so hard working, can't do enough for you! Ate two evening meals there, delicious! Breakfasts fab too. Howick Hall Gardens next door a must visit. Forgot to write in guest book when we left yesterday, so made up for that here 😀 Thank you both! Christine and David Cheltenham xx
