Hacienda AltaGracia is founded with the belief that total wellbeing comes from being able to move fast or slow. Serving to both stimulate and relax, this undisturbed Costa Rican mountain retreat is a haven for authentic wellness, culinary, adventure and cultural experiences. The individual accommodations, each a luxurious, freestanding casita, seemingly float amongst the verdant and biodiverse property. Featuring a coffee farm, equine stables, vegetable gardens, butterfly garden, children's play area and wild rainforest, the pure spirit of this land - and it's people - will be felt throughout your stay. The onsite wellness center, THE WELL, utilizes holistic practices to restore and rejuvenate, incorporating native ingredients and therapies that integrate Eastern and Western methodologies for effective and innovative rituals. Through an exploratory culinary program, food is rediscovered as adventure and well-being. Many experiences maximize the incredible natural surroundings and encourage new and unexpected exploits. Adventures take guests through the mountains on horseback, to the tops of the highest trees above the forest canopy or to the far corners of Costa Rica on bespoke day excursions. Truly transformational, a visit to Hacienda AltaGracia is an invitation to disconnect, to reconnect. You will leave here feeling rejuvenated and full - in mind, body and soul. Stays at Hacienda AltaGracia are made seamless with access via a quick charter flight from SJO Airport and inclusive rates that include all meals and non-alcoholic beverages, daily adventure and wellness programming, and a personal 'Compa', a dedicated experience designer who will plan the perfect mix of experiences for wellness, dining, adventure and exploration.

I am a huge fan of wellness and luxury travel, and was beyond blown away by the experience at Hacienda AltaGracia. This is my third Auberge property and I can say by far this was my favorite. From the personalized wellness consultation to the farm to table dining, the property, and the experience was something I'd never experienced before. The minute you get off the plane charter, the service is top-notch with your personal company or concierge escorting you to your casita and explaining everything in the room and property. The room was stunning with a backdrop of the mountain and flora and fauna plentiful, in addition to having high end amenities and services like robes, beauty essentials, fresh water and coffee/tea, little snacks, and more.

The location of Perez Zeledon is nestled in the mountainous region of the country, but it was still breathtaking to experience the magical area where fresh coffee is brewed, birds and butterflies are bountiful, and peace and serenity is practiced. Everything at this destination was a personalized and elevated touch, which made you feel so special and cared for. The service is beyond amazing at The Well where you can take a dip in the infinity pool and jacuzzi, take a clay and hot stone treatment, go into the sauna or steam room, and/or sign up for luxe beauty and holistic health treatments like integrative massages and/or energy healing sessions.

This property and experience were exactly what I needed from a busy work life in NYC, and I can't say enough great things about the place. I was able to relax, unwind, and enjoy the best amenities and food/drinks. The food was absolutely AMAZING and my friend and I even took pictures of the menu because we were obsessed with all of the high-quality ingredients and presentation of it all. Everything was so amazing and emanated such great energy and vibes, and I would definitely come back here to visit again. Thank you Hacienda AltaGracia for one of the best trips of my life !

This our third Auberge stay, and by far the best. Everything about this place is magical zen, and it's impossible to leave here not feeling refreshed and relaxed. The hotel itself is the definition of luxury, with perfectly appointed, freestanding casitas as your rooms overlooking the mountains and valley below. The adults only pool is pristine, with gorgeous views and an outstanding lunch menu of fresh, locally sourced options. Breakfast is served on the outdoor patio at the main restaurant with dual views of the mountains and valley, while hummingbirds hop among the flowers next to you. The spa, run by The Well is top notch, and a critical visit for your stay even if you don't get a treatment to check out and enjoy the mountain top pool. The grounds are beautiful with several great hiking trails through the landscape. Dinner has a different menu every night, and does not disappoint, although the lunches were our fave for their simplicity. As snobby New Yorkers who regularly have access to amazing cuisine and are often disappointed on vacation, the food here stands out - it's fresh, local, creative, and delicious setting a very high bar. The staff are all lovely and helpful, but a special shout out to Adrey the barista, he can teach you everything there is about coffee, and I hope he wins the world barista competition. Take advantage of the weekly schedule of included activities. I never knew I needed a lunar gong bath until I tried it - pure relaxation.

Dear Rob A, Thank you for the fantastic review following your stay at our hacienda. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed our epicurean offerings - with the inclusive approach, it's important that our guests leave feeling they were treated to something exceptional, not simply fed throughout their stay. We are thrilled to hear that our rotating dinner menus, fresh lunch offerings, as well as our locally sourced ingredients delighted you throughout. We are also happy that you took advantage of our calendar of activities and were able to experience the magic of Adrey at Mercado. We are fortunate to have a passionate and devoted team who enjoy creating memorable guest experiences, and I'm glad to know this was on display during your stay. We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back to AltaGracia! Pura vida, Mark

My family of 4 stayed here during Thanksgiving week and had a spectacular time surrounded by the special biodiversity of Costa Rica. While the nature and scenery of the area were enough to capture our attention, our stay at Hacienda AltaGracia elevated our experience to new heights. From the moment we landed in San Jose, everything was taken care of for us including our immigration forms, luggage transfer, and flight out of the private domestic terminal. The short flight on the private plane from SJO to the resort was a once in a lifetime experience (especially for the aviation lovers out there). The resort itself offered new experiences every day including coffee tasting, cacao tasting, horseback riding, yoga, pilates, and much more. The food was incredible and offered a variety of flavors and preparation styles (there is something for everyone, and quality is never sacrificed.) We highly recommend the Rancho Fried Eggs for breakfast, which we had 4 days in a row with no regrets. In terms of activities, there is plenty to do around the resort to keep you occupied (we only left the resort once to go zip lining). My sister and I tried horseback riding for the first time under the tutelage of the expert resort staff, and we went up on the mountain trails with the most gentle and graceful horses Cochice and Amapola. Pro tip, the horses will love it if you feed them banana and plum slices. Speaking of animals, all dog lovers should meet Mark the manager’s friendly dog Bagheera. We mentioned just once that we wanted to meet her if there was an opportunity, and Mark and the staff made sure to bring her around to say hello. The service throughout our stay was top notch, and every staff member we met was so kind, friendly, warm, and hospitable. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Costa Rica that goes above and beyond, this is the one. We will certainly be back!

This place is luxurious and outstanding! We had our own little casita. You may walk all around the resort or request pick up and drop off service in mini golf carts with plastic closings if there is rain. The nature walks guided or on your own are well worth it. The spa is over the top and actually toward the top of the resort and next to the gym. The spa has a beautiful indoor pool with two jacuzzis and several warming stone platforms for relaxing clay masks. There are showers right there to rinse off the clay before going into the jacuzzis or pool. The staff at the spa and the resort are fantastic, the real Pura Vida! We had spa treatments and infrared sauna. We also did a nature sound bath in the trees and a coffee scrub by the river with outdoor hot soak and fruits and drink provided for our private session. There are several dining options as well as El Cultivo, garden to table experience for which reservations are needed at extra cost and well worth it. Daily tours are arranged by your private assistant at your service your whole stay. We went on a horseback trail ride and went to the BBQ dinner and horse show! The property is really beautiful, flowers, trees, birds and a butterfly sanctuary. There are outdoor pools and jacuzzi as well. There are a couple of bars and the food and service are excellent.

A nice property in the hills of Costa Rica.
Arrived by private plane from Osa Peninsula. The aiport is in a valley, surrounded by hills, very short runway, great landing, great takeof, nice, scenic flight. 45 minutes drive to the property.
Nice property, extensive, very clean.
Wonderfully decorated, new and clean casitas. Very comfortable. You have a kettle in the room, a french press and fresh, organic coffee from nearby for making fresh coffee in the mornings, good matress, good pilows, nice, big bathroom.
Nice breakfast menu, a la carte. Fresh juicy fruits every morning, a lot of healthy options available, nice open kitchen with the staff on display. Nice view from the breakfast terrace.
Every casita comes with a butler (compa they call them here). They try their best to satisfy everyone’s needs. For example, we came with kids, all preety active, wanted zip lining and buggy tours but they didn’t have any kind of activities like this on offer, they found external ones and we enjoyed a bit of nice addrenaline filled activities during our stay.
The spa looks very nice, the treatments are very expensive and I don’t understand why. They are no different than in other hotels but much more expensive.
You can see bunnies in the evenings.
Nice manicured nature all over the property. The place is somewhat hilly and they take you with buggies everywhere.
They could add one more restaurant, specially during lunch they should add one more because the pool restaurant is the only one available and it get’s boring eating the same thing for more days in a row.
It rains every day after lunch so outdoor activities can be done mostly during mornings.
Lovely stables and 40 amazing horses to ride.
I would recomend a visit while in Costa Rica.

For the price you expect something great and this does not disappoint. The view of the Perez Zeledon/Talamancas mountains is breath-taking and the on-site amenities are really solid (either doing it by yourself or guided help from staff). Only drawback is the location is fairly remote so if you go, I would plan to stay on or near the property (or plan for long driving days) - especially if during the rainy season.

I can't speak highly enough about this resort. From the moment you arrive in SJO until you depart the level of service is above and beyond. As others have said, it is the people and I couldn't agree more. The staff is truly top notch, from remembering your names, likes/dislikes and attention to detail. Honestly, you almost feel like you are in a dream at the Hacienda AltaGracia! Everything is exceptional from the greeting when you touch down on the private airstrip, the housekeeping, the casitas are clean, comfortable and luxurious and the outside patio with plunge pool were the perfect place to sip a drink and take in the sunset. The Well was the most relaxed I think I have been all year. The food is delicious and no request is to too big an ask. I had read about the Auberge resorts and so happy I had an opportunity to discover first hand what an amazing company this is and what a perfect product they have to offer. I could go on and on, but to keep it simple - I would highly recommend this resort - you will enjoy every moment of your expereince. I look forward to visiting the Altagracia family again. Thank You for your wonderful service.

This is one of the nicest resorts that my family and I have ever stayed in. Unfortunately there were quite a few inconsistencies in the service. Upon arrival, the welcoming we had was amazing, but the following days specifically with food service some things were not up to standard. 3 days in a row the food I ordered was incorrect and took extremely long. This was typically only with certain servers, others were amazing. I would like to mention Andrey as he is the one who should be setting the standard for all other servers. He was amazing. Regarding the food itself, it too was inconsistent. Some dishes good, others not so much. I think the main issue here is inconsistency in service and food. When staying at such a high level resort, I expect these things to be above avg. Not avg, or below.
Regarding the experiences offered by the resort, I would say they were extremely over priced. We did a short hike which was underwhelming for the high price. We were going to do ATV's but the cost of the experience was almost the cost to buy a new ATV. The horse back riding was worth it for sure but the other ones not so much for the price. Besides the points I would improve on, I would say the resort itself was beautiful and extremely clean. Our campos (concierge) Kevin and his associate were extremely quick at response times whenever we needed something such as room service or a driver.
Overall I would say there's some room for improvement to justify this resort to be at the high-level it intends to be, but nonetheless it was still a great time.

Dear V8114WHmichaele, Thank you for your invaluable feedback following your recent stay at our hacienda, it is highly appreciated. I'm happy to read of the highlights of your stay, including the property itself and the team; we will ensure to share the positive comments, especially with Andrey and Kevin, as it means so much to them. I was disappointed to learn that the food service and our experience offerings did not meet your expectations. For this, I'm truly sorry. Please note that the shortcomings you experienced are not reflective of our hacienda and the high standards we set ourselves. We have already discussed your feedback with our team to ensure we continue to improve, which we strive to do daily. The ATV offering is through a third-party, and we will discuss your comments with them to ensure they are aware and can review their business, so we can improve all that we offer to our guests, whether directly or through local partners. We highly value your candid feedback and look forward to the opportunity to welcome you and your family back to AltaGracia at some point in the future. Pura Vida, Mark Wright, general manager

We spent six days here and had an incredibly relaxing experience. Highlight is the extraordinary service levels from the staff there! Really felt acknowledged and taken care of every step of the way. Food was exceptional - really fresh delicious and creative.
River bath experience is a must do so book ahead for this as numbers are limited and it is weather dependent. We loved our trip to Marvin’s Cacao Farm.
Regarding the weather…. This resort is in the mountains so it is much cooler and rainier than by the coast . Many of us had not brought the right attire!
Exceptionally well run property.
Would just say that the website is very hard to navigate and couldn’t see clearly what activities are available.

Yes, we took the Cessna both ways and it is a perfect way to get get to the resort. Only 30 minutes of flying time, beautiful scenery. Our pilots did a magnificent job and we were completely happy. The domestic airport is brand new it is within walking distance of the main airport. We have driven to the resort 4 times and it takes slightly over 4 hours.
