Amilla is a wonderful property. Things that are spectacular: - Size of villa--both inside and outside, with pool - Butler--"one stop shop" for reservations, logistics, excursions, transportation around the island, special requests, etc. - Staff-- very friendly and efficient. Eager to please. Our room attendant quickly brought a couple of items that we requested and kept our villa spotless, while the all of the restaurant waitstaff (really, every single one) were friendly, attentive and a pleasure to interact with. - Food-- wide variety of food and food options. Extensive breakfast buffet and a la cart menu. My wife is vegan, and menus and buffet items are well marked. At the buffets, the chef came out to personally highlight the many items that were vegan-friendly. Amilla has a rotating series of restaurants, as well as in-villa dining. There were many, many options for dining every day to accommodate any dietary concern. - Public space-- pool is huge, substantial beaches, lots of space around the island to absorb people and spread out. - Arrival/departure--wonderful lounge at Seaport Terminal, and people to help with luggage, logistics, etc. - We are big snorkelers, and had a number of high-quality excursions. As expected, the marine life was unbelievable, including at the house reef. - The spa is excellent, and very zen. As noted above, the staff was hard-working and excellent. Many are long-term, which is impressive in this setting. A few people to highlight: - Our butler, Samail, who was always friendly and calm with an attitude of "anything is possible". His answer to 100% of our requests was "Certainly". - Waxy, from the dive/snorkeling/excursion staff. Very knowledgeable and helpful! - Sama from the arrivals/departure lounge. Made a great first and last impression. As you think about room selection, consider the prevailing winds. As mentioned above, we are snorkelers, and one minor disappointment was that our Reef Water Pool villa was largely inaccessible by water because of the winds and strong currents nearby. This may have been our fault for not understanding the seasonal, prevailing winds, or just bad luck. Obviously had we known we would have requested a more sheltered room, since we stayed at another property in the Maldives with direct reef access from our room.

Hotel's Favourite
Finding the right luxury resort in the Maldives can be challenging. After extensive research to find a resort that met our needs: small island, sand all the way around the island, good value, easily accessible by seaplane, good diving facilities and varied dining options, we opted for Amilla. The systematically excellent Trip Advisor reviews helped to sway us in the direction of Amilla as well – we figured any GM that takes the time to respond to every single review reflects someone who genuinely cares about his guests. This was not our first Maldives trip but our beloved resort from year’s past was recently bought out by a chain and was closed for renovation. The Amilla seemed like a good alternative and proved to be so. The Amilla experience begins before arriving in the Maldives. The customer service is outstanding. The reservation staff is reactive and solutions-oriented. Before arriving, the team already knew a lot, ranging from our dietary preferences to our preferred bed linen options. The airport staff is friendly and efficient. The lounge at the new seaplane terminal is comfortable and welcoming. Upon arrival at the island, you are met by the team and the person who is assigned to taking care of you throughout your stay. In our case, it was Jupiter. She was incredible, catering to our every need and often anticipating our needs. The first room we had booked turned out to be on the windy side of the island (Reef Villa) so we could not take advantage of the pool on our terrace. It was a shame because the inside of the villa was wonderful and spacious with tons of closet space. We were lucky that a couple of days later a sunset villa freed up and we moved. That was a real treat. The Amilla has an excellent choice of dining options: Japanese, Indian, Italian and a themed buffet. The food was consistently excellent and the service outstanding. The diving center is well staffed – all professional, friendly and highly qualified. The tennis pro, Marcus, is fully dedicated and is kind enough to play on the sunny side of the court while the other side is under the shade (before 11am!). The spa team is also great. We booked three 90-minute massages during our 12 day stay – that’s how good they were. The rooms are very comfortable, the AC is quiet and effective, the TV connects to your device and the bathroom products (Aesop) are fantastic. The room also includes a number of adapters for electronic devices as well sun screen. Induction charging for phones is also available by each bedside. The WiFi throughout the resort is outstanding. It’s hard not to continue gushing about Amilla. The combination of excellent management and the beauty of the island really stand out. And the most valuable asset of the Amilla is the staff. A special shout-out to Jupiter, Jambe, Lisa, Ahmad (best beach manager ever), Victoria, Marcus, the dive center crew and the spa team. And of course to Jason who leads by example and sets the tone from the top. Thank you all for making our stay memorable. We hope to be back soon.

We travelled as a family of 6, returning for a second time and I have to say we went back because it was so good the first time and it was even better this time. The first time we visited, the GM had only been there a few months and while it was a fantastic experience then, you can now see that she's had time to make her mark and numerous things had gone up a notch from an already high bar. You can see my previous review for my impressions at the time. Key things I would highlight about Amilla for people trying to decide on a resort in the Maldives from the couple of hundred resorts available: - Baa Atoll, I think is the most beautiful and strikes a good balance between remoteness and convenience, being only 30 minutes by seaplane. I would advise against going to one of the resorts close to the airport as you won't get the Robinson Crusoe experience, the snorkelling/diving is not near on a par, and if/when you go on any boat excursions you will see the airport/busy shipping etc. Just look at the hotels in the Baa atoll - majority of the best premium segment operatiors have located there (Four Seasons, Soneva Fushi, Dusit Thani, Anantara) - It's a natural island, not a man-made island. Bear in mind that a number of resorts close to Male are actually on man-made islands (e.g. Ritz Carlton, Waldorf). These man-made islands dont have house reefs for snorkelling and you don't get the island sat in the turquouise water of the reef's lagoon so you aren't getting the stereotypical Maldivian experience. At Amilla, you can literally walk in the water, go 10m out and you're above the reef looking down 30m, or coming back 5m and you can stand up. - straight-forward all-inclusive offering. At some of the resorts I looked at, that claim to be all-inclusive, the list of terms and conditions attached runs to pages and pages and seem to basically say that anything you might want isn't actually included! Also frequently these all-inclusives typically have you allocated a restaurant for ALL your meals which for 3 times a day for 10 nights becomes repetitive quickly. So you end up going to different restaurants and paying, which defeats the object. The Amilla all-inclusive is just that - all inclusive, and there are very very few things you need to pay a supplement for (this time lobster was included in several of the restaurants with no supplement). Great touch at Amilla is that you can have one of your daily meals in your room for no charge as well - so if you want to relax in your room you can, without feeling like you're paying twice and not using your all-inclusive. -staff are wonderful, particularly as a returning guest we noticed we saw lots of familiar faces and they remembered us as well. That there seems to be little staff turnover speaks to how they get treated by their employer and it comes across in the service they deliver to you as a customer. - plenty to do or do nothing. There are lots of activities on daily for those that want them - the kids art workshops daily were wonderful run by Charith and Roshan who were amazing. The gym is very good, particularly given you are on a small island. You can ride your bikes, snorkelling is incredible, and the dive centre is the best we've ever experienced anywhere - staff are so helpful/accommodating and most crucially very experienced and great teachers. - it always feels quiet. While we were there the island was at 90% occupancy but it never felt busy, enough to create an atmosphere in the evening but not so much that it affected service, and there are never issues with beds on the beach or the pool. Every room has its own pool, and ample outdoor space and wonderful views so a lot of people seem to spend their time at their rooms and come out for dining only or drinks. We had many swims in the main pool where there was just us in it and nobody else around the pool at all. Overall even better on second trip, and we're already planning a third. Yes it's expensive compared to other resorts but I'd reiterate what i said in my first review that actually it's good value for money when you consider the differentiating factors. There's no getting away from the fact that the Maldives is one of the most expensive locations to visit, and Amilla is towards the top end of that, but if you can afford to go to the Maldives i'd suggest you push the boat out and go to Amilla if you can as overall it will probably end up not costing you more for reasons outlined above and you will certainly have a better time. Thanks to Narelle and all the staff for another wonderful stay and we hope to see you again.

6th time at amilla with family (a very large group) and yet again … amazing !! We are feeling like the hotel is getting a little bit tired now , needing some grooming and improvements… repaints, new restaurants , some new additions, (aka a Padel court!) …. but overall the hotel is fantastic. And that is due to the staff! Big claps for the management as I do think it all goes down to the staff loving the umbrella in which they work in, they all smile and enjoy everyday. going to amilla as a large group is ideal! They are so accommodating and go above and beyond for you with anything and everything. The new management is great, they are so lovely and really do bring warmth and love to the resort. Can’t go without mentioning some amazing staff members (even though they are all fantastic!!!) Hamdhi, the best butler there is .. more than that, he’s family. He makes sure everything is perfect for everyone , whenever you ask how he is .. he’s FANTASTIC .. he is so optimistic positive and just loves and appreciates every day he has there. You don’t have to ask him something twice , or even once because he somehow does everything before you even ask! He is so great. Kauser and Reehan are so lovely , making the days as chill as they can! esra jambhi hasyf monsi and murray make all meals amazing. With 19 fussy orders, they somehow get it right every single time!! Vibin on the bar - what. A. Guy!! He’s such fun and great energy to be around. Of course making the best drinks. Nooman … the house keeping supervisor. Makes your trip that whole bit more special with little touches like sand art, room decorations , bath presentations and bed displays! Such a great touch. Hamza.. everyday gets a great football game going for staff v kids .. genuinely my brothers and cousins yearly countdown event !! They can’t wait to get there to see hamza Safi.. the pizza king !! He remembers all of our fussy orders each year we go back! He is so great and even lets us help him make them sometimes. Yousef- an amazing house keeper who adds little touches each day and always has a warm and welcoming smile! All in all a 10/10 for feeling great after a holiday at amilla but like stated above , do feel the hotel itself is needing a little touch up it’s quite tired.

This was our third time at Amilla and I can honestly say it is the most wonderful and magical place in the world! Having travelled extensively across the world staying in some of the most premium properties, I don't believe anywhere has come even close in terms of the beauty of the property, the service and friendliness of the staff, the food (bring elasticated pants!), the incredible house reef and the overall experience. We travelled as a family of 6, 2 parents, 2 kids (15 and 10) and my parents and we all loved every minute of our stay there. If you are looking for a resort in the Maldives, I know how overwhelming it can be as there is so much choice, but Amilla will not disappoint, we've never returned to a hotel as many times as this, and we're already planning our next trip! Some special shout outs to : Narelle - the kindest, most genuine GM who is genuinely dedicated to accessibility, sustainability and incredible service! Gondo and Samir - the best butlers who couldn't do enough for us Charith and Roshan - who made art classes so special and went above and beyond to make my daughter in particular feel welcome Sappe in the dive centre - the most wonderful, kind and passionate teacher Haseef, who looked after us so well in the restaurants Manchy - for the extra special touches!! The list goes on.... You won't regret a trip to Amilla - it's the best!

The sun struggled to shine during our week at Amilla and I don’t know if that clouded more than the sky but we really were rather underwhelmed with our experience for the expense of the trip. We have stayed in far better hotels with more attentive service other places for this price point - definitely paying a Maldives tax for the location. The only selling point is the kind staff we interacted with who were so warm and pleasant. The overwater villa was dated in terms of style and furniture, our hammock was mostly broken and around the resort things look tired and lacked upkeep- the food lacked much variation and indeed wasn’t exceptional in terms of taste. Service often lacked the special feeling we were looking for and despite two birthdays (one being a big one!) it felt like we had to really pester for any fuss. I have never felt so underwhelmed anywhere I have been! It seems sad to me that even to have a nice meal for a special occasion it’s extra cost all the time - not like the table on the beach, in front of the table next to the beach is offering much different considering it’s dark anyway! And when it rains- there really is no contingency - the don’t have a table saved for people out in the rain- so we had a birthday meal on a table not big enough for us squeezed in the back of a restaurant- memories like that are not what I wanted to take away from this trip sadly. The other thing that annoyed us was that as soon as a footballer turns up to run an academy - suddenly things are tidied up on the island and some changes made. There was a lot to nit pick at the place but I won’t dwell as I don’t think it will change anything. If you are used to luxury and want to experience it in the Maldives then this probably isn’t the place to visit. It definitely wasn’t the trip I was expecting.

Dear Vivz82 We appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts following your stay at Amilla back in October last year. At the time, we were truly so very sad and disappointed that we were unable to deliver the kind of stay and experience you both deserve for your double birthday celebratory holiday. We take your feedback as an opportunity and a learning point. A number of issues you highlighted then and in your review have been used as a training platform with the team and should you consider to give us another chance we would be delighted to redeem ourselves to you and your family. Please feel free to reach out to me should that be the case. In the meantime, thank you for taking time to write your review and sending warm wishes from Baa Atoll. Sincerely Narelle

everything is very excellent here, they have a PS5 in their guest waiting room in male! and there are some lot of crabs and hermit crabs on the beach at night, the snorkeling views in the sea is the best I've seen in maldives, you can see sharks, turtles and even rays when dinner at Japanese restaurant(feeling koi),And you can take the diving lessons at dive Butler, they can take you to many excellent coral reefs, i even saw a sea turtle size as a big table sleeping on the reef! i like the dinner here every day, you can book global flavor food, although it's a little salty to me, but it was very much, you can't eat it without a big big stomach!
