One of the most elegant country house hotels in the Cotswolds, Buckland Manor is tucked away in a tranquil corner of the village of Buckland, next to the old village church. Set in 10 acres of grounds, which blend seamlessly into the village, the beautiful manor house is unmarked by the passing of time; it is an idyllic setting from which to enjoy an exceptionally warm welcome, tantalising menus lovingly crafted from the ‘market garden of England’ and breath-taking Cotswold scenery. Buckland Manor truly encapsulates the feeling of being at the home of a friend. A very good friend who produces afternoon tea on request, fine aperitifs before dinner, suggests the perfect wines and doesn't mind how late you get up before serving a hearty breakfast. We kindly advise that Buckland Manor offers quality time for family and friends, where staying and dining is a more adult affair, so we ask that children are aged ten years and over.

There’s no doubt that Buckland Manor is a ‘classic’ in a beautiful setting. We booked two nights on their DB&B package which included delicious dinners and breakfasts.
Our ‘Small Deluxe’ room wasn’t small but it was a bit dark and its bathroom did suffer from adjoining room noise. Called ‘Garden’ the room is on the ground floor and does not overlook the beautiful gardens – rather the drive and car parking. So, we won’t stay in that room again and would not recommend it. Service was very good, bringing fresh milk for our in-room tea and coffee-making, providing daily suggestions of things to do locally, and answering my request for a town map of Cheltenham. They set a high standard with a Dyson hairdryer in the room, and a hot-water bottle.
The lounges are comfortably classic and would have been even more welcoming if the open log fires had been kept burning into the evening. The dining room is comfortable too but lacks colour. Drinks and dinner served in these two rooms were very good and almost all the staff were charming.
Not far short of Excellent.

We took a two night dinner, bed and breakfast break and on the whole enjoyed it. However we left feeling mildly disappointed. The positives were: a comfortable, spacious room and a large bathroom with a very good shower.
Breakfast was excellent and the staff were all pleasant and helpful.
The negatives were not hugely important but irritating in what is a Relais & Chateau hotel and one of the most expensive in the Cotswolds (we paid well over £1000 for our two night stay). Firstly parking is pretty limited when lunch and afternoon tea guests are taken into account and there is no dedicated resident space. We returned mid afternoon for a break at about 3.30 pm to find nowhere to park.
Used hand towels were removed from our bathroom and not replaced so we had to call reception. The still mineral water in our room was not replaced and again we had to call reception.
The fino sherry I ordered pre-dinner was served at room temperature ( there was none chilled so it was replaced promptly with a glass of pinot blanc when I drew attention to it and I was not charged for the wine)
We were taken to our table then waited 30 minutes for our first course (the 3 course meal took almost 2 1/2 hours that evening). Our table was right next to a window which was open (I guess for Covid reasons but it was very chilly and I would think common sense suggests that although in the circumstances we find ourselves in keeping the room well ventilated is important, tables should not be next to an open
window.
We were offered more of the excellent bread, accepted but then never received it.
Most of the food was excellent (we particularly enjoyed a mackerel starter, ham hock terrine and a venison main but a cod dish was bland and slightly overdone).
The wine list is amazingly pretentious and expensive with many wines in the £1000-£3000 price range (there was even a bottle ‘on sale’ for approximately £3500 reduced from £7500!) . We drank quite good wines by the glass one night and on the other had a bottle of excellent Clare Valley Watervale riesling at £68 - an approximately 3 times markup.
I realise I have dwelt on the relatively minor failings in the restaurant but I particularly chose this hotel because of it’s reputation and I think these faults let it down.
Would I recommend Buckland Manor and would we stay there again? Probably but I do feel that it is expensive and doesn’t quite reach the standards it should.

Having been coming to Bucklands since 1997 we were interested if the new ownership had invested in the beautiful property?
The service (eg Marius & Jasmine) was first class, the covid measures superbly done and the food really exceptional. Housekeeping & Laundry v well done done, rooms need a little investment, looking a bit bashed from leaks and a little tired post covid but already recommended to people. Great care of our tandem bike too
Thank you all

Buckland Manor is in a beautiful setting and very photogenic. However, we were disappointed about a number of things, that should be perfect when spending £450 a night.
Our room Sophia was very quiet, but had no air conditioning so we needed the fan. The fan blew around dust and cobwebs which affected my asthmatic wife. The duvet was thick and the curtains/blinds were in adequate - at 5am in the morning we were fully awake since the room was so light. There was also no fridge.
We have stayed at nearby Foxhill Manor which is considerably better equipped free champagne , afternoon tea, and night pantry) and is the same price.
The grounds have potential but need some serious weeding and the grass needs cutting - the croquet lawn looked a joke.
Breakfast was very good but we got fed up being asked so many times during our stay if we were dining with them tonight - it seems that is their main focus.

Worst experience.
Room dark and jaded
Bath linens grey and past their life expectancy
Asked for the vegetarian option plus lobster appetiser. Only to be question "I

thought you were a vegetarian"
A few hours later being ill and throwing up
Disabled husband confined to room
all day along with me as I couldn't get out of bed.
He ordered egg and bacon for his breakfast, he got four fried eggs and old bacon.
Later that day I order toast which was brought to the room at a cost of £40.00
That night toast again for dinner
We sat outside in the garden, shouting and expletives coming from kitchen.
Tom the Gardner was good, he helped with husbands wheelchair.
Manor and gardens beautiful.
£1,233.00

Buckland Manor is in a fairytale setting in one of our favourite places but our stay was far from acceptable .
Our room was ok but so hit and the windows only open a few inches .
Morning shower was cold .Dinner was so disappointing,at these prices you should be able to at least expect really great food .
The lamb was over cooked ,fatty and chewy, venison also overcooked .
The ravioli pasta was awful .
The Mille feuille dessert had no creme pat , custard ,icing or cream .
We expect to pay over the top for wine but the bottle prices were ridiculous.
Waitress serving dinner had her face mask under her nose and told us she’d ‘ just been jabbed that day ‘
Only one waiter ( who as really lovely ) at breakfast so we had to wait longer than we should have .
I emailed the hotel with our comments ,no response .
You are not deserving of Relais membership, this is very misleading .
Almost £600 for one night which is fine if things are good ,they were not .

The hotel has had one or two changes since last year. A new General Manager, Marcelline, a young french man who is eager to ensure that his guests are happy. Also a new Food & Beverage manager Ovi, who has had wonderful training and again does everything he can to ensure guests are happy.

We returned for our 6th Christmas and had our usual room on the ground floor, which is really convenient if you forget something! The room does not really have a proper view but is very relaxing and we can see the church. Housekeepers are amazing and cannot do enough for you. The room is always immaculate when they have been in.

Night turn down, they leave a flask of milk for tea or coffee in the morning which is always much appreciated.

During the day the fires are burning and you can have a lovely view of the gardens whilst you catch up on the newspapers.

Whilst there are menus you can ask for any changes if you wish.

There is a 3 day Christmas package which offers more than you can eat. We have suggested that instead of afternoon tea, enormous array of sandwiches, scones and cakes etc that maybe guests can change this to sandwiches at lunchtime, particularly on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day when you are having a 6 course dinner.

We love coming over to uk to stay here for Christmas. The hotel and all staff are amazing. We have already booked for next year!

Although we have eaten in the restaurant we decided to try the Hotel. A welcoming staff member with a large umbrella greeted us when we parked our car in the pouring rain. A comfortable bed in our room that overlooked 15 acres of immaculate grounds. Three lounges with blazing log fires and plenty of comfortable seating. A Christmas stay and all the guests we spoke to had stayed at Buckland Manor before. Very attentive staff providing an efficient service. The restaurant served reasonably sized and beautifully cooked and imaginative dishes. Small finishing touches throughout to give us a memorable visit and before leaving we booked another stay.

Unable to stay with our family due to Covid restrictions we booked three nights nearby at Buckland Manor.
The house is wonderfully positioned in colourful gardens amidst rolling Cotswold countryside.
Having stayed at a number of Relais and Chateaux hotels across Europe we were looking forward to a much anticipated break before winter.
On arrival we had our temperatures checked by the receptionist and went to inspect our room .
The bathroom initially appeared clean but on further inspection we were shocked to note the toilet bowl contained solid residue and had not been cleaned. Further inspection suggested the floor had not been mopped after the last guest departed.
We reported the above to the Receptionist who was horrified and said Housekeeping would be informed. There were no further cleanliness issues for the rest of our stay and our rooms were daily cleaned to a high standard.
The bed was enormous and very comfortable.

Breakfasts served at table were excellent, with plenty of choice and beautifully cooked.
Evening meals were disappointing, mainly because of the lack of variation over our three night stay . Despite a ‘specials’ menu each night , the same dishes reappeared each night. Had we stayed a further night we would have been pushed to choose a different dish.
Staff were on the whole were helpful, friendly and welcoming especially a Hungarian waiter who was a supreme professional. His male colleague was less so , being monosyllabic and appeared morose, and uncommunicative.

In conclusion, although we enjoyed our much anticipated break ,we feel Buckland Manor doesn’t quite match the excellence of some of its counterparts in Switzerland and France and we are unlikely to book another holiday there.

Such a wonderful experience staying here . Everything was amazing. Bedroom was so comfortable .Everything that we needed was provided from L'Occitane products, Dyson hairdryer and other little touches such as fruit, fresh milk ,biscuits and even a sweet jar ! The ambience of the whole place was wonderful . Very cosy lounges and the restaurant was beautifully organised with starched white tablecloths and serviettes . Staff were so attentive and the restaurant served up the most tasty and delicious food that we have ever had . All of the staff were so friendly and made us feel so special. A beautiful location too nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds and so close to other interesting places. An afternoon tea in the garden was just superb . A wonderful experience .

Dear Michael, We are regulars staying over Xmas. 5 years in a row. We also stayed for New Years Eve 2017 into the first days of January! Magical. Marvellous. Wonderful. One cannot say enough about Buckland. Do not choose anywhere else! Enjoy! Alan and Mary - The Gambia

I haven’t been there in January, but it would probably be very snug and cosy. Open fire in sitting room. Lots to see in surrounding villages, and probably better to visit than in midsummer. It’s a really super hotel.
