Visited with my partner in February 2020.
A beautiful fresh resort opened in November 2019 so very new.
We stayed in a water bungalow which was incredible. The decor is fab with a huge bathroom with glass floor panels either side to look into the ocean.
The room is large with a private terrace and pool looking into the ocean. All diving equipment is hanging on the wall ready to use.
Food is excellent throughout the resort and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
I would have given a 5* rating if it wasn’t for the very confusing all inclusive package which really is NOT all inclusive.
Tea and coffee are available in the room but you have to pay 4 dollars for a tiny bottle of milk - we found this strange.
No drinks are available in the mini bar in the all inclusive package which means if you are staying on your terrace for the day, your only option is bottled water unless you want to walk all the way to the bar for a drink, too far in the heat.
In the restaurant and main bar most drinks are all inclusive, including spirits and cocktails. However, if you want a gin and tonic at the Sunset Bar you have to pay for it and only red and white wine or beer are included.
Go to the snack bar which is advertised in the all inclusive package and the only items on the menu that fall under this are tea and coffee, all food on the menu is payable.
This didn’t spoil our holiday on the whole but the reason people choose all inclusive is to know that extra costs are minimal. This is totally misrepresented as all inclusive and should not be advertised as so.
If this doesn’t bother you then I would totally recommend this resort as everything else was pretty perfect. Maybe the all inclusive package will improve as time goes on?

We’ve Just returned from celebrating the holidays at the new The Standard hotel in the Maldives. It took more than 24 hours to get there from New York, but it was so worth it.

We arrived at the hotel quite cranky after a three hour delay with our seaplane transfer on Trans Maldivian Airways. If you go, beware, this is one of the very limited options to get to the island, and as the manager of the airline told me during the second hour of our three hour delay, they don’t operate on a schedule. This is after confirming the night before that we’d be on an 11am flight! Thankfully, the team at The Standard are lovely, with Jay, the guest relations manager, and his teammate Milka, quickly putting us at ease with warm smiles and cold treats. This coupled with the stunning natural beauty of the island and the relaxed chill vibe of the property, washed our travel woes away and we spent the rest of the day on our private deck, in our private plunge pool, gazing into crystal clear blue waters.

Food: we honestly weren’t expecting much given everything has to be brought into the resort, but they have an amazing F&B manager, Mia, and a very talented young chef whom we came to know simply as chef Chris, and every meal was a delight. From the breakfast buffet, which offered a very large range of cuisines every morning, to grilled deliciousness at the BBQ Shak on the beach, which featured a variety of seafood and meats, including fresh from the sea Maldivian lobster and a 24 hour brisket, every meal was more than satisfying. In fact there are several restaurants on the property, but the most memorable is Gudu Guda, which has just one seating and guides you through an elevated traditional Maldivian meal. You sit low to the ground and eat with your hands. It is an extraordinary sensory experience not to be missed. We also loved our nightly sundowner cocktail at Beru bar with our favorite bartender Edwin. And oh the sunset — words cannot do justice.

Spa: we enjoyed the best massages we’ve ever had in the beautiful and comfortable spa, which includes a hammam. Elgar, Suzanna and Trish are at the top of their spa game and I only wish we had gone earlier in our trip instead of our last day so that we could visit more than once.

We’re not big New Year’s revelers, but our end to the year was perfect. It started with a burning bowl ceremony on the beach where we discarded our 2019 hang-ups and centered ourselves with sound meditation. Chef Chris, Mia and team then put on an over the top buffet feast on the beach - can you say tandoori lobster and freshly shucked oysters, for example! And then dancing with a live band and DJ, with fireworks to ring in 2020.

The team is still working out a few kinks, but more than make up for them with hospitality that feels like family by the time you say goodbye. We are already plotting our return. Thanks team Standard Huruvalhi!

First off, I loved the artwork adorning the nooks and corners, the murals by a Brooklyn artist and the coloured villa walls which resemble a pantone shade card. The hotel is visually so different from other Maldivian resorts and has a lot of spunk n character. The staff is truly exceptional, they're encouraged to be themselves and have real conversations with guests (quite a departure from traditional Asian hospitality). I ended up becoming friends with my guest experience manager, Jay Brumant and he was just the best, brought such a great energy to my experience here and no request was too big for him to accommodate.

There's a DJ by the pool on weekends, hammam socials and the activities on offer are stellar! I loved the private island picnic and snorkeling with turtles (the ride to turtle point was on a baller boat).

The location of the resort between Raa and Baa atolls is incredible, esp for those who love marine life (I'm a certified diver so this was a big plus for me). You can see spotted and manta rays (and even baby sharks!) just walking around. The sea outside my overwater villa had hundreds of fish with the prettiest colours and patterns and I snorkeled every chance I got (including right before checkout).

There is an activity wall behind the need with Ocean equipment. And a disco ball above the bathtub wifi is so cool! Plus a Nespresso type coffee machine (ticked all my boxes).

The hotel is great for groups, couples and families too (they're hoping to get baby sitting services this year). Spa has very cool, unusual treatments and speciality restaurant Guda Guda has delicious local food cooked by Maldivian aunties, a menu of natural wines and sheesha.

Would return here in a heartbeat, esp because their pricing is very competitive in relation to other Maldivian resorts.

We are back home again after a 15 day stay at The Standard, Huruvalhi, Raa-atoll. It was simply PERFECT!
We lived in a Lagoon Water Pool Villa with lots of space, large bathroom, large terrace and direct access to the lagoon.
Faro at watersports arranged a manta excursion although off season an his staff found us a manta to swim with.We are really grateful for that! Great team you have Faro. We also took a trip to Meedhoo the island where Halid? at watersports comes from. Really interesting to have a guide who knows everything about the place.
In the bar Manish and his staff made effort to keep us happy, special thanks to Nadia, with her we had long talks about everything and she gave us a lot of useful information.
The food was excellent, compliments to the Chef and his staff. Always fresh and tasty with a variety to chose from. Also the staff in the restaurant was attentive and generous and really made our meals to a family reunion. Thank you Rashid, Vishana, Manzoom, Sawa, Rahab, Sineth, Azim, Aisar, Hood and Midhath.
It feels unfair to only mention some by name because everybody and we mean everybody was kind and helpful.
Thank you all for a memorable vacation in the paradise!
Lena and Roland

My boyfriend and I stayed in a water villa for 10 nights in February 2021. The room was fully equipped with everything you need even a UE boom box and snorkeling equipment is available in the room. The rooms are exactly what you can see on the photos and overall the hotel is extremely clean. All hotel areas are overall very new or well maintained.

We had the room facing the open sea, so we could enjoy the sunset from the room every day. Half board includes breakfast and dinner in the main restaurant. Everything provided in the main restaurant was very tasty, a large variety of different menus changed every day. There are additionally two à la carte restaurants, both of which are absolutely worthwhile.

What stands out above all is the friendly staff. A special thanks to Shan for his personal guidance throughout our stay. Shan made our trip exceptional and made us laugh a lot. From the first day, thanks to him, we learned some words in Dhivehi and learned a lot about the island life. He not only went out of his way to provide an exceptional experience for us at all times, but became our friend by the end of the trip.

Another praise goes to Faarish. Faarish is a waiter at the à la carte restaurants and also provided us with exceptional service, even contacting his cousin after our trip to organize a special delicacy and bring it to the airport.

We also appreciated the rest of the staff. In addition, we noted positive reactions about the current management from several sides of the staff, which pleased us greatly.

With the lack of staff and their inability to serve as they would forget half of our drink orders, it would be a struggle to get stuff. And to get the room cleaned was hard we would have to call them multiple times to get the rooms cleaned. The chef was Absolutely disrespectful and the food had for vegetarians was very limited. They were some good waiters they would normally do the night shift and weren’t slacking with their service and the drinks. Very disappointed with service.

Everything was just perfect at this place! Sea plane transfer was smooth. On arrival, we were transferred to ocean villa. Would highly recommend ocean or water villa for the ambience. Huge clean rooms, maintained very well. Rest rooms are big as well, glass floor on the corner of both sides make it extra special. Life jackets, snorkeling kits are complimentary and available in the rooms. One can just get down the stairs from the room to get into the ocean! Many restaurant options too and their main restaurant is big with a lavish spread for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Vegetarian options are a little limited, but they took extra care to provide us options outside the buffet. They also provide complimentary bicycles to commute to the room. Kayak and snorkeling was fun. Overall a very peaceful and relaxing stay at The Standard and we hope to revisit the place soon.

Special thanks to hotel staff Yash (overall in charge), Doris, Vittu (restaurant staff), Javed and Minhaj from the water sports section. They made our stay memorable by going an extra mile! Thanks guys!

Just returned from most amazing and unforgettable holiday from this beautiful hotel in paradise!
We were given a fantastic welcome and taken quickly to our stunning overwater villa. I had asked for a villa on the lagoon side of the resort and the hotel were more than happy to accommodate our request.
Everything was spotlessly clean and had a lovely fresh new feel.
We had a couples massage at the spa and this was amazing...thank you Suzy!
The staff made this holiday for us. Nothing was ever too much trouble and we were always greeted with happy faces wherever we went. They remembered our preferences each day and were always on hand to help with anything.
Two in particular went over and above every single day to ensure our stay was the best it could ever be and are a real credit to this hotel their names are Rashid in the restaurant and Edward in the bar. The biggest thank you to you both of you....we will never forget everything you did for us.
If there is anything I would like to see changed it would be that the fridge in the room is checked and topped up each day. We had to keep asking for it to be done and even then it wasn't done properly. Also the addition of maybe a reference chart or book for the hundreds of different fish that you see. It would be lovely to know the names and maybe a little about them.
Thank you to everyone at The Standard, we will never forget our little piece of Paradise.
We will be back!!!!

We enjoyed this resort very much, especially since we chose it for our honeymoon. It is quite expensive, but it was one of the greatest experiences we had from most points of view. The room was absolutely incredible (we chose the water villa) with amazing views, private pool and deck going right into the laguna. Personnel was extremely polite, helpful and smiling, always trying to please us (sometimes even exaggerating). Food was good with a wonderful selection too choose from, freshly made pasta and pizza from a great chef (we recommend him), various meats, fish, freshly made Asian food (also recommend), sushi, local food, salads. There is a nice bar next to the water villas, with karaoke in some evenings, pool table and a great sunset. The massage at the SPA is very good, be sure to try it. You can either walk from the main island to the villas and explore the great marine life, present all around, or ask for a ride from the reception. There are various events organized, such as movie night, live music night or traditional dance and music, which are really nice. We appreciate the amazing work done by our room cleaner (Ali), really perfect service. Also, the people in the restaurant are doing a great job, especially Chefao (not really sure if I am spelling correctly). Staff at the reception is really helpful and solved all our requests quickly and satisfyingly. Cleanliness is high all over the resort. What can be improved: lower prices of the minibar, they are too much (water in the room is free and always plenty). Food which you pay extra (at other restaurants than the main one) is not really worth it. We had an excursion for "swimming with turtles" but the experience was awful. The "guide" spoke really bad English, so we did not understand exactly what he was saying, he was not waiting for the whole group, so many people just got back on the boat (because they got scared of the after-storm waves) and were really frustrated. The time of "swimming" was very short, and only a couple of people, out of 20 saw 1 turtle. Money badly spent.
All in all, we had a great time, spoiled only by some bad weather (some raining almost every day) and by the resort getting really crowded in our last couple of days.
Thank you for the nice memories, The Standard!

Hey mihaescuvlad, Thank you for your five star review, we are happy to read that you had such an enjoyable stay with us! We are glad that you appreciated our attention to detail and exceptional service; this is at the forefront of everything we do. We aim to make our guests feel at home and able to experience travel as it should be from the first moment they arrive in the Maldives in the warm arrival welcome at our beautiful resort through the day they leave the island home. Its a bummer that you didn't get to enjoy the Maldivian sun as much you deserve and expected, but I am also glad that you got to enjoy Maldives as a whole. Thank you again for your wonderful review and we look forward to having the pleasure to welcome you back soon! Sunny regards Aleaf

From first seeing brand logo upside down through the whole experience this is not a 'standard' Maldivian resort

Late booking, spent 11 days with daughters (22 & 18).

Have previously stayed at Four Seasons Landaa & Kuda Hura, O&O Reethi Rah & though very, very different we really enjoyed this place. If your key criteria is weather, beach, ocean, food, room & service the Standard delivers very well across all.

Very hip. contemporary, cool yet works for all age groups. Main building has a great airy flow from restaurant to bars & lounges. Spent part in 2 overwater & then moved to 2 ocean beach villas. Both very fresh, stylishl, huge bathrooms. Ocean beach (103,104) is on a magnificent stretch of sand & turquoise water.

Not normally buffet fans, Kula was an exception. Fantastic variety & quality lunches/dinners. The BBQ Beach Shack is great location & good but limited menu & $$$$ for lobster. Guduguda best location, food good but twice was enough.

Staff are superb, no name badges so enhances real engagement. They are super chilled and go the extra mile. Too many to mention but Manis & his bar team inc Minnie & Lejen. Javid & his Kula team inc Rasheed. Afag, Longey & Shaun (BBQ Shack), Yash, GEMs & the chefs deserve a shout-out.

Wasn't sure at the start of music everywhere but it really does add to the vibe.

One improvement: arrived HB but limits you to main restaurant, changed to AI & you get $ credit for other 2 restaurants, however AI drinks in each place is different and can be limited - suggest you broaden AI to be more consistent; obviously ex premium wines, spirits

Can understand themes in SR679 detailed review Jan 2022 'what if', especially on volume of water villas and the strange style & location of spa building. However, our overall experience was excellent. Hotel at 50% occupancy, affected like all others by sad events in Ukraine. At 50% nothing felt busy.

We would definitely come back as part of a 2 centre trip

Jesper, many thanks to you and your teams !!

Responded 6 Apr 2022
Hello Ant62, It was our pleasure to have you and your daughters as our guests here at The Standard Huruvalhi Maldives! Spending time with the girls in paradise honestly couldn't get any better! We suggest that going with the all inclusive option is always the best choice. Glad that you enjoyed it! We hope to welcome you and the girls back sooner rather than later! :) Jesper Soerensen
