Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked Sunday lunch for us all, arrived on a cold day to a lovely warm and friendly place. Ordered the roast beef for us all , well what can I say it was superb probably the best tasting roast I have had for a very long time, delicious and a decent serving without being too much. The chef and kitchen guys were all extremely friendly and knowledgeable, this place is going places !!. We would all highly recommend.

We have eaten at the old venue (dog in a doublet) many times and the takeout roast dinners were the making of lockdown so we had high expectations & we weren't disappointed. The mini cooked breakfast starter, lobster mac & beef pie were all exceptional & the home made/brewed (and complementary) crisps & toffee vodka were a lovely touch. The service was also excellent - made a 43yr old git very happy on his birthday!!

We finally managed to visit Dog & Castle for a Saturday family lunch and we were extremely impressed with everything that John and the team have achieved. Outstanding food and service in a cosy restaurant setting. The menu has many items to choose from and the kitchen caters well for vegetarians too. The wood burning stove was very welcoming for the cold weekend as was the beer. We can’t wait to come back soon

Absolutely amazing cuisine. Our table of 7 were delighted with every aspect of the meal. If you are a foodie then check this place out now. The service is friendly and efficient but don't expect silver spoons and stuffiness, this place is all about the quality of the food which is truly exceptional. Worth every delicious penny.

The photos on the website do not reflect what I experienced. Awful room and disgusting bathroom. Paid for continental breakfast but breakfast room in darkness when I left my room key on the bar at 8.20.

Went for a Sunday roast and it was excellent. Very generous portion and very well cooked. We had the waygu beef, cooked pink just how we asked. All the elements on the plate were delicious and cooked really well and I'll certainly be back. The staff were really friendly, welcoming and came around regularly to check we had all we needed. Car park round the back in a nice village setting. Very well worth the visit.

No one meeting me on arrival, phone call directed me to go and speak with chef to collect keys to room 9. Rooms are not above or attached to pub. Bed was comfortable, ensuite was roomy except for shower cubicle. TV in room had awful connection and most channels were not viewable. WiFi was okay. Ate at venue in evening, menu was small, but I had the lovely wagu burger. Service in pub was good. Car parking was free

If you want a Sunday roast that is beyond expectation this is the place. Jon and his team provide a truly wonderful lunch, beef cooked exactly as you wish and accompanied by am array of vegetables that satisfy every taste bud, if you have room the homemade puddings are wonderful. They even supply a mini roast dinner for the dog!! Cannot recommend a better place, but all these wonderful reviews will mean we can never get booked lol.
