Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in this beautiful part of the country for a couple of nights. The hotel is set in amazing countryside with beautiful walks along the river. Although the hotel has been modernised it has been done respectfully so the soul has not been stripped out of it. Our room was in the main house, the room was large with plenty of storage and a very soft, comfy bed. The bathroom had a bath and a really good shower. Unfortunately, we did have very noisy neighbours. The WiFi is also slow and tends to lag. The breakfast was excellent as was our evening meal. Michael, the barman is very entertaining and certainly knows his whisky. All the staff are very nice and friendly. I am looking forward to staying again.

Another wonderful stay at Ballathie! Room and dinner were fantastic, beautiful views of the River Tay. The bar is always full of friendly guests and great banter with the barman. Why just a 4 🌟 review? They have changed their usually wonderful piping hot breakfast to a buffet… so disappointing…. These buffets can never replace the wonder that is a freshly cooked breakfast delivered to you piping hot on a warm plate! Please change it back!

This was the most joyous experience! The place itself is beautiful. Charming and a wonderful space to be in. My husband and I had a fantastic experience from start to finish with the lovely rooms, which were so comfortable, to the wonderful attention from all the staff who were so welcoming. The evening meal was seriously stunning and I praise the chef and his team for creating such an imaginative and delicious gourmet meal. We sure hope to be back it was a long way from Australia, but worth it. Special thanks to Michael for the whiskey lesson and for our wonderful waiter head of staff who let me meet the chef. Keep up the great work guys!

To Mark and the whole team at Ballathie Country House Estate... Thank You!! Travelling solo for business can sometimes be quite tough however the team at Ballathie went above and beyond to make sure my stay here was nothing short of exceptional. The manor and surrounding scenery is stunning and the service is second to none. The dining is exemplary with an incredible dinner menu and delicious breakfast service. It really is an amazing hotel and, even though the drive up from london is 7 1/2 Hours, I certainly will be back.

Special occasion for my husband and I. Dinner was absolutely superb - just the best. Congrats to their amazing chef. Self-service breakfast was a disappointment due to cold poached eggs - reported to serving staff and no action taken. Had given my payment card at check in + also via Booking.com. was shocked to receive an email on our return home that we hadn't paid or given card details. I immediately 'phoned and 8 hours later still awaiting an explanation/apology. Not good. We've had several special family occasions there over the years - really disappointing service now.

Wow 🤩 what a place! The moment we entered the lady on reception was delightful! Her genuine warm welcome made us both felt we belonged! She gave us a full run down where everything is table was booked for us. The room was nice with a river view. The dining experience was out of this world. Both of us have worked in the hospitality industry for decades and found your worthy of more then 2 AA rosette’s! Breakfast was good no issues. All the staff were very nice and accommodating. We’ll definitely be back xx ❤️

The most wonderful country house hotel. Professional staff, old but classy rooms (no contemporary nonsense here,) unrivalled Michelin star quality food and a quaint bar with a roaring fire. If you are a foodie, want a break in the country only 20 mins north of Perth, this is the place to go.

Lots going on in our personal life, an escape from all that at the moment would be perfect! Booked Ballathie on a DBB basis, knowing that its reputation is up there! Arrived around 1600hrs, check in was professional, we were given room 5 , nice room with an exceptional bathroom. Really quite cold and bitter outside, heating was on but our room was just warm! Decided to head to the bar where there was an open fire! Cozy, just the job! Couple of Gin and Tonics and conversation with a couple who frequent Ballathie often, put us in relax mode. Retired to our room and changed for dinner, closed the curtains and went for dinner. Arrived and met and shown to our table, Amuse Bouche excellent, mushroom veloute, flavoured butters and tasty cob, our selection of chicken terrine was tasty, bit sparse though! I chose the lamb rack, absolutely beautiful but again tiny portion! Wasn’t prepared for my wife’s Duck leg confit and breast, four mouthfuls and it was gone! Again it was so tasty, but why the tiny portions? We both ended with a Banana Choux bun, so tasty! Coffee and petit four followed! Breakfast was excellent! The food is rated two rosettes, and deserves it! So need to address the portions though?

Just returned from a 3 night stay for Hogmanay. We took the whole family including our twin granddaughters aged 5. From the minute we checked in until we checked out we could not fail the hotel for service or food. We could not have eaten or drank more than was provided, the food was exceptional and to a very high standard. All the staff could not have been more helpful but a special mention must go to Jalal. His kindness, enthusiasm and fun really made the stay. They made us all feel so welcome especially the children who were treated like celebrities. If you ever get the chance, I can not recommend the Hogmanay package more highly.
