Varlet Farm delivers perfection!
David is delightful, nothing is too much trouble. We were a party of 10 adults and 2 infants, David recommended and made dinner reservations, gave advise on places to visit, parking and answered all our queries. The rooms are spotless, comfortable and well equipped and the separate lounges dotted around the building are perfect for evenings. Breakfasts are delicious and the ambiance of the whole place is awesome.
A return trip is a must!

So glad I spotted the mention of Varlet Farm in The Times last year. First class accommodation if you are touring the Ypres Salient, actually in Passchendaele and very close to Tyne Cot, the best museum (Passchendaele Memorial Museum - a must). David is an excellent host. Our rooms on the ground floor were spacious and well appointed. The "honour bar" was stacked with Belgian beers and red and white wine, with coffee and tea making facilities provided. Excellent breakfast with everything, including bolied eggs, fresh baked bread, home made jams, cereals, cold meats, cheeses and even Belgian chocolate on offer. Guests are encouraged to make their packed lunch from the goodies provided - cling film ready on the table! Excellent location. David will make your evening restaurant reservations if requested.

Arrived to be greeted with apple pie. Came back later fridges were filled with fantastic beers for us to sample at great prices, you keep your bottle tops to pay when you leave. Very big room with lovely en suite and powerful shower, breakfast is top noche with a great continental selection. The farm also has a collection of stuff dug up from the fields in the barn. Can’t recommend the place high enough.

A fantastic 3-night stay. Wonderful clean and comfortable rooms, a very warm welcome, and incredible breakfast (home made breads and jams, plus all sorts of local meats / cheeses). David went well out of his way to maximise our enjoyment, including letting me store my bike, loaning me cycling maps, advising on WW1 locations to visit, restaurant recommendations (which were all excellent)...the list goes on. They maintain an honesty bar so you can relax in the evening with a delicious local beer, and even let you make up sandwiches for lunch from the huge array of breakfast products! Varlet Farm is right in the middle of WW1 Passchendaele history, so is perfectly located to visit the very many poignant locations including Ypres and Tyne Cot, while also displaying its own very interesting war history. We've been trying to stay here for 3 years, and it was well worth the wait. All facilities and some rooms are on the ground floor, so ideal for those with mobility difficulties. In summary, the delicious home-made apple pie on arrival perfectly characterised the care, attention and friendliness shown by David and Dirk throughout our time - we will be going back at the first opportunity. Book early so you don't miss out on a wonderful experience.

Very quaint B&B with a lot of history surrounding WWI. Only about a 10 min drive to Ypres and numerous other war sites (we explored the Canadian sites!). The beds are comfy, rooms spacious, nice bathrooms, everything was clean and feels well curated to an optimal experience for the guests. Breakfast was diverse with a lot of local and homemade products. They encourage you to pack left overs for your lunch. There is a beer/wine fridge with local drinks for a very reasonable price. The owner is very knowledgeable about the history of the area, and will provide you with plenty of interesting facts. He checked in on us enough to make sure we had everything we needed without imposing. Amazing host!
We were also given a coupon book for some discounts at local museums. This is a 10/10 accommodation!!

This was probably my sixth visit to Varlet over the years. It is now run by Dirk's daughter Kundgonde and her husband David. They have retained all of the nice touches - particularly the wonderful breakfast of local produce and the constantly stocked honesty fridge! They set up a barbecue for us to cook our own meat on and were extremely attentive throughout our stay. Varlet holds a special place for WW1 enthusiasts, being in the middle of No Mans Land in the third battle of Ypres. It pays due respect to that history but even those not interested in that side of things would be very comfortable here.

A perfect place to stay!

The rooms are excellent, really well equipped and plenty of space with every need catered for. There are 2 main communal areas in the accommodation with tea and coffee making facilities, loads of reading material and an honesty bar which was ideal for our group of 10!

David was a great host and nothing was too much trouble providing information in the local area and even booking our evening meals for us in local restaurants!

Breakfast was great with a huge selection and plenty of home made/locally sourced produce to choose from.
There in an interesting little museum in the opposite barn providing information on relating to the farm and packed with WW1 trinkets retrieved from the surrounding fields.

We had a fab stay David and hope to visit again next year!

So good to be back after lockdown. This remains such a great place to stay. Excellent location for exploring the area and as always, lovely hosts who can’t do enough for you. The dining and communal areas encourage sharing of experiences and places to visit whilst the bedrooms are spacious with good sized bathrooms. The beer fridge is always welcome after a day out and there is a nice seating area outside. We’ve been visiting for many years and it remains a
