Just 2.6 miles from Alton Towers, Alton Brook House, a large six bed-roomed detached country house, makes the perfect place for a relaxing family holiday with Dogs and Horses. Encircled on three sides by its own five acres of countryside with a pretty bubbling brook (complete with fishing rights) adjacent. The original part of this country house is believed to date back to 1850 and has been thoughtfully extended over the years to substantially enlarge and enhance the house. Many original features have been retained, including beams and open fires. The gardens wrap around all four sides with lawns and terraces, all completely fenced in, and visited by a large variety of birds. Alton Brook House provides the perfect family base to explore all that beautiful Derbyshire/Staffordshire has to offer. There is excellent riding, cycling and walking to be found locally.

We stayed as a couple in room 5 for two nights while visiting Alton towers. On first impressions the room did seem very small but was decorated lovely, the bed was so comfortable and shower powerful. We was greeted with tea and cake when we arrived and made to feel at home. Breakfast was lovely and lots of it too that we stuffed ourselves the first morning. The hotel was very peaceful and quiet even though we was on the ground floor we didn't hear much noise from staff or other guests. In the room we was left a little memo of local pubs and resturants and also cab numbers which we used to visit in the evenings and instructions on a shortcut to Alton towers which we also found very helpful. Would defiantly recommend to anyone who is thinking of staying here for a break or to visit Alton towers.

We have been to many B&B's over our 20 years together all over the UK the USA and Europe France Germany Switzerland Italy ect; ect;, but by a long mile the best ever experience we have had was at Alton Brook House and the lovely host and the ever accommodating care taker. We stayed overnight in one of the "Huts" outside it was utterly fabulous, the building was as warm as the welcome we received and the fantastic breakfast we ate, the sleep we had was unbelievably sound and comfortable, the accommodation was nice and clean, we had a lovely experience ......so much so I would go there again and again if we are in Derbyshire for some reason, I will recommend the hotel to all my family as they are regular visitors of Alton Towers. A big big thank you to Lisa for the wonderful experience that we both had with Alton Brook House, not just a hotel but a B&B experience.

We are a family of 5 and stayed here on the 5th - 7th April. We were greeted with tea and cake which you can take either in your room or in the lounge. Our room accommodated all of us, bit of a squeeze, but not too bad. It was clean and comfortable, what more do you need!! Breakfast was lovely and relaxed with a wide variety of foods; cereals, fruit, yogurt, toast, cooked food etc. Alton towers was about 10mins drive away as was Uttoexeter with it's racecourse. All in all I recommend this charming house with friendly staff!

Me and my boyfriend were meant to be staying at Alton Brook House on Saturday (14/09/13), we confirmed last week that our booking had all gone through okay and we was told yes and that they looked forward to us staying at their hotel however today (10/09/13) my boyfriend received a very informal, impersonal email stating that there was an issue with our booking, it had been cancelled and that they had forward our details to another hotel by the name of Parkview Guest House. There was no explanation in the email as to why our booking had been cancelled or what the issue was and as for giving our details to another hotel, I was disgusted. After speaking to Lisa from Alton Brook House, who was extremeley un helpful and had a "what do you expect me to do attitude" we have had to book another hotel, which seeing as it is such short notice, was very hard. I am shocked that they did not even have the decency to call us or even try to put us up in their hotel (apparently they are fully booked). I would have thought they would try their best to accomodate us considering we booked this hotel a few months ago. We was actually really looking forward to staying here as it looks like a wonderful hotel however we will not bother in future after being treated this poorly. We have taken our complaint further due to the un helpful nature of Alton Brook House.

We read the excellent reviews for this property and thought we had found the ideal place to stay with our daughter and two grandsons aged 15, 11 and 9. How wrong could we be? We booked in August before we read the review placed on the 25th August. We stayed from the 31st October for three nights and were told we would have a whole self contained wing with two rooms. One super king sized bed in one bedroom and a double bed and two singles in the other room as well as a bathroom with a bath and shower. The week before, the owner rang up asking if we had booked one room or two which made us suspicious but when we rang back she assured us that everything was fine.
On arrival we did not receive the expected friendly welcome but were frowned at for arriving ten minutes early. We were then told that we would be staying in the suite we originally booked for the first night and then would be upgraded for the next two nights. We were confused by this but were not given any choice. However it was accidently disclosed that the room we had booked was needed for a larger family the next night (Two adults and four children). We then asked to see the horses which are described in the write up but were told they had been taken to Majorca where the owners have another property and that the owners were there too!
The next morning the same lady asked our children to listen carefully to her and then asked them if they wanted to sleep on three large sofas or have camp beds in our new room and then went on to rave about how wonderful this accommodation was. Our still packed luggage was to be moved while we were out at Alton Towers and because we did not know what time we would be back we were told where the suite was and that the key would be left outside under a stone,
This suite was not accessible from the main house and we had to go around the back and through a separate door. Yes, the living room was lovely with the said three sofas but not an equal match to the three expected beds in a bedroom. The double doors to the next room were locked and the glass was covered up with A4 bits of white paper on the opposite side which meant that it could be removed and anyone could be watching children sleeping on the sofas.
The upstairs bedroom was big with beautiful views but the furniture was roughly painted and the wardrobe door only stayed closed when jammed with paper! The only available plugs were on an extension socket which was wrapped around the bed head. However the bathroom was the real stinger. The door was not a standard size and was very narrow which reflected the scale of the bathroom. The floor space was tiny and there was a small sink and toilet and a walk in shower under a sloping ceiling. The shower was impossible to regulate and our daughter was scalded because the temperature would change unexpectedly. The stale water lay in the base and became rather unpleasant. My husband found the whole bathroom very difficult to use. All five of us were expected to use this one tiny cupboard like bathroom.
The next day at breakfast we shared our concerns and were promptly told we could leave if we wanted and would not be charged for the third night. When we pointed out that we were going to the fireworks at Alton and that it would be impossible to drive home afterwards, it was suggested that we could speak to the owners on the telephone in Majorca, This proved to be fruitless and only a waste of time.
You had to give a time for breakfast the day before and say then if you wanted tea or coffee. The breakfast room was small and could not accommodate all the guests stuffed into the house together. We were asked in the morning if we wanted beans as they had wasted too many beans recently! The pancakes are bought from the supermarket and are not freshly made or hot.
We were charged £430 for the pleasure of staying in what felt like a second version of Fawlty Towers. If you decide to stay here at least get the type of room in writing and the costs of it before you go. Also make sure the owners will be there when you stay.
Please do not think this is just a rant, we don't want other people to have a similar experience and disappoint their grandchildren as well!!!!!!

We arrived at Alton Brook house expecting to be shown to our "bungalow" which we booked for our family of 2 adults and 4 children for £161 per night. We were told we were in the "weird space ship thing". We were shocked that the "bungalow" was in fact a derelict static caravan.** Please see **photographs** as words fail me. The directions to this place are totally misleading. The animals our children were looking forward to seeing were "off limits". When we politely refused to stay the owner said it was double booked anyway. Very odd set up and deliberately misleading. The gas boiler last displayed safety check was years ago.

We booked months in advance for a family room based on good reviews and photos of the family room on the Alton Brooks B&B website. When we arrived we were told ‘the boss has done some moving around’. We had been shifted to a shabby, dirty ‘flat’ out the back, complete with a cat flap and an odour of animal urine (see photos).
We had phoned twice (including once because this place is very difficult to find) so there was no chance they didn’t know we were coming.
For four adults we were given a queen bed, a single couch on slats and a trundle bed. There was not enough linen to make up both beds, so my two sisters and I shared the bed, while our mother took the couch in the kitchen. There was grime across all surfaces. The bathroom was very small, the shower didn’t work properly (nozzle must be hand held in place), outdoor lights were on all night with curtains that didn’t cover the windows in the kitchen. The full buffet breakfast translated to a tray containing such delicacies as chocolate mousse, with cereals in the cupboard and not enough cutlery for four people.
The booking had been secured by credit card so two days prior to our arrival without notice of the room change or notice of the charge at all, the room was debited (£135).
The girl who showed us tried to make out to us that we had been given the flat ‘for more room’, the couch bed we were told, ‘probably folds out’ and the ‘sheets and towels are in here’ SO WE COULD MAKE UP THE BEDS. The owner’s response was that ‘you should have rung’ and he would have brought us more linen. However the premise when you make a booking for four adults you expect the room to be ready.
All food products were ‘Tesco’s finest’ which along with the rude and condescending male owner, accurately reflects the cheap and nasty flavour of this establishment.
It was the worst place we have stayed. And it made our first night in England absolutely awful, luckily we had a lovely stay in Scotland previously in other bed & breakfasts.
I would recommend trying your luck at the Bulls Head or other accommodation towards Alton village proper. At least one other Tripadvisor review (dated 28 May 2014) describes an experience similar to ours. Perhaps it would have been different had we been a family with children staying in the family room, but the room & amenities we were given coupled with the attitude of the owner ensure we will never return and advise others to avoid it like the plague.

From the off I knew this visit was going to be a bad one.
Arrived at the hotel to no one there, walked around the house, still no one. Walked around the site looking for someone. Still nothing.
45 minutes later someone pops up, from the stables to no apology, not even a "hi how are you" just walked us to the rooms and gave us the keys. Not welcoming at all, normally b&bs couldn't be more friendly.
Room was okay. Dated. Tiny ensuite. Dirty. No wifi, even though it was advertised. One pillow each, freezing rooms, thin sheet.
Breakfast that everyone goes on about was rubbish. Cheap products cooked in a greasy way. Won't be staying here again

We arrived at Alton Brook house after a fairly straightforward drive, we were keen to get to our room and relax and have a cup of tea!
We did not feel welcomed into Alton Brook.. More of an inconvenience! The room was shabby... For £245 for two nights I'd expect a hell of a lot more! UHT milk supplied... For tea, really??? Come on, surely a small jug of fresh milk isn't too much to ask, and only 3 cups provided when four of us staying in this room!
You may want to think about cleaning the carpet area in front of the chest of leaning drawers where the tea is made... Tea stains all over the floor! Maybe a chest of drawers that aren't sloping!!
The ensuite is ridiculously tiny, in need of a refurb... And a good clean!!
Terrible first nights sleep, one pillow provided for each person... Which is just plain stingy to be fair! Beds/mattresses are of cheap quality and very uncomfortable!
Breakfast the next morning was not great, very sloppy and the bacon was so overdone! A large pot of WEAK tea provided with two cheap tea bags! Could not wait to get out to Alton Towers just to get a decent cup of tea!
Not really much to say about the second nights sleep... Apart from the same as before!
We were greeted by who I can only assume was the lady owner the next morning... Much more friendly, and provided a decent breakfast! And she seemed like a nice person, unfortunately our stay was ruined by the other staff, the room and previous breakfast quality and we will not be returning here again!
Absolutely no wifi as stated in the details, this was also one of the reasons why we booked here as it says there was wifi! If you hover on the landing you "may" get a slight signal... What a joke!!
Oh!!!! I would also like to complain about the fact that money for this room was taken 4 days prior to our visit!!! When booking through booking.com it clearly states that payment would be taken on our departure!! Not before... It's a good job we had already transferred the amount over to this account!
We felt totally ripped off... Currently staying in a B&B in Dartmouth for two nights, same price and a millions times better, exceptional standards! Shame on Alton Brook House for charging what you do!

Well where do i start, booked this b and b for me, my husband and two children via Laterooms. Was happy with my choice as it wasnt far from Alton Towers, told my friends who have two children who wanted to come with us so i booked them a family room also for the same day as us but booked the rooms on different days. As i had my phone stolen i have not been able to check emails or recieve phone calls, Lisa had been trying to contact me regarding my rooms. She thought it was a bit dodgy as i would call it for me to book two rooms for the same date on different days. as i didnt know she was trying to contact me she decided to take £135 out of my bank account just to see if i was ligit and not having her over. This is before the 7 days before my stay deadline for full payment. She said she was just testing my card to make sure im not a bogus booking, That was on the 27th of October and told me she voided the payment straight away, its now the 3rd of November and i still have not got my money back. She also gave away my friends family room which i booked and told me that my friends children would have to bunk in with my family, oh and for the same room rate.We were ment to be staying to watch the fireworks at Alton Towers this saturday the 8th of november, ive had to cancel as i have never had so much trouble with a hotel or b and b in my life. i have never written a review before as i have never been treated so badly before like this. Im still waiting for my money back and will have to take it to a visa dispute. my children are disapointed so are my friends who i had to explain whats happened. as far as i can see it i have 2 conformation emails for my rooms and was ready with my payment, she has taken my money to check im not dodgy. Take my advise and the other people who have given this woman a bad review, she is out for all she can get, and she will keep getting away with it because she lives right near one of britains top attractions. DONT STAY YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF!!!!!!!!
