A merchant “son of a convict”, a legendary architect, an iconic department store and The Salvo’s all play a part in the history of Maylands. Maylands Lodge is a 12 room luxury lodge of the fringe of the city. A secluded urban hideaway. A place where you’re able to escape, relax and rejuvenate. We are small in nature but big in heart. Our passion is people and our purpose is our generosity of spirit.

Words cannot describe how perfect and beautiful Maylands Lodge is. We stayed here for 3 nights over our honeymoon and they were the best 3 nights! The rooms were elegant, stylish and spacious. And the breakfast...the best food we have eaten!

The hostess was so willing to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We didnt have a microwave in our room and we asked to use one to heat food, she went out of her way to bring one to our room to use.

The building itself was restored in a way that you wish every heritage building to be. Definitely a must stay in Hobart!

Staying at Maylands Lodge really was a delightful experience.

We stayed in Room 10 and really enjoyed it.

The rooms are spacious and beautifully appointed. The renovation is a delight. It is great that the windows open, allowing fresh air to enter your room. And the views from our room out to Mt Wellington were beautiful.

They have a little bar area where you can help yourself . An honour system operates, where you write down what you had and they charge you for it later. We didn't personally use this service, but the room looked delightful and it would have been enjoyable to sit their and enjoy a drink and nibbles.

Speaking of nibbles, they always have a few delicacies available in their dining/reception area should you feel peckish. And they offer loose leaf tea (with tea pots) and plunger coffee in the rooms, not to mention the usual mini bar fare (which of course comes with the normal charges).

In addition they deliver a tea pot, herbal tea and a couple of sweet bites in the afternoon for guests to enjoy, which is another special touch.

The hot cooked breakfast offerings were delicious, and the espresso coffee we were served (with the cute uplifting messages that accompanied it) was most enjoyable.

Staff are friendly and approachable. It really is a very pleasant place to stay.

BUT, you really need to be travelling with a car to stay here. From Maylands Lodge, it is quite a walk into Hobart, and there really isn't that much around, in the way of restaurants. We drove to North Hobart both nights to eat. It was about a 5 minute drive and North Hobart is hip and happening, with plenty of restaurants to choose from, but just a bit tricky without a car.

We had come to Hobart to visit MONA and had decided to catch the ferry. In retrospect, it would have been easier to drive there from Maylands. We ended up driving some of the way into the city centre, parking where there was no charge all day, and walking to the Ferry Terminal from there.

But, if you have a vehicle, love old buildings, a quiet place to stay, spaciousness and comfort, thoughtful touches and an interesting garden environment, stay here. you will enjoy it

We recently had the privilege of staying at Maylands Lodge and meeting the wonderful Jess who greeted us with a smile and welcomed us to Maylands.
It is a beautiful restored building high up on the hill, gracious and statuesque.
The artwork and decor is jaw dropping with attention to detail.
The breakfast served in the dining room was mouth watering with an array of food and options to suit every fussy palate.
The building has beautifully maintained gardens which add an air of elegance and grandeur.
We highly recommend staying at Maylands which is no more than 10 minutes by car to city centre Hobart.

We have stayed here on several occasions and previously wrote a glowing review not long after the property had opened. Our last stay was more like Fawlty Towers. I have sent a private email directly to Maylands Lodge more than two weeks ago and there was no response. I don't know what has happened to Mayland's but I would hate a potential visitor to consider my previous review and make a booking based on how it was then.
Firstly our room wasn't cleaned. There were clothing labels and hair on the floor from a previous occupant. The milk in our fridge expired the day we arrived and was actually lumpy. There was only plunger coffee offered. Breakfast was no longer on offer due to staffing issues although we still payed for breakfast as part of the tariff. There was no partial refund or vouchers for breakfast elsewhere or breakfast hamper offered. Plumbing issues in the room next door continued until well after 11pm and then the wind caused the hallway door to bang throughout the night.
It was possibly the worst night's sleep I've had since my children were small. We actually considered forfeiting our second night and staying elsewhere to get some sleep.
Also the car park was no longer secure and the gates remained open all night.
To be honest - I'm unhappy to write such a poor review and that's why I initially sent a private email to Mayland's and I have no idea what is now going on with this premises but we certainly will not be wasting our time and money by staying here in the future when there are such lovely accommodation offerings within the city.

We stayed in Maylands lodge on our last night in Hobart before returning to the U.K. We booked a Hunter suite and requested a mountain view room. We also asked for early check in and Maylands were happy to oblige with this.
The whole lodge has been beautifully restored in a mix of traditional and contemporary styles. The Hunter suited faces mount Wellington and on the day that we visited the sun shone and we had an amazing view of it from the room. We also had a terrace where we could sit in the sun and enjoy the peace and quiet and views. Totally amazing! Staff were wonderful. Couldn’t recommend highly enough if you are visiting Hobart.

Maylands has opened their restaurant again on a limited basis following covid-19 lockdowns. Twelve of us dined in a private room and enjoyed an amazing ten-course menu. My fears of there being many dishes I would not/could not eat were unfounded. Every dish was terrific (stand out possibly the beef cheek) and the service was faultless. Highly recommended.

Stayed here for 3 nights at the Hunter room, and we had a great relaxing experience. Jess (team leader) welcomed us on the first day, and showed us around the property. We stayed on the 2nd level (Hunter Room), and has the view of the mountains and access to a private balcony. The lodge is beautifully restored, with modern luxury amenities. We also have dinner here at their Deodara restaurant, and it is SPECTACULAR. See photos. The menu is designed for sharing, and you dont have to choose what to order - which makes it easy. Booking is recommended.

The Hunter room with terrace is divine. Gorgeous full size period bathtub and fireplace. We absolutely loved Maylands. Jess was so very generous catering to anything and everything we needed. The breakfasts are unbelievable, just beautifully prepared, presented, delicious meals.
We could have stayed for months.

We had a good 2 nights in our ground floor suite with direct access to the beautiful gardens. There’s nothing not to love about Maylands Lodge - they’ve done a great job keeping the natural beauty whilst also updating and modernising the rooms. The furnishings are comfortable and luxurious. I loved that Netflix was connected to the room which is a plus when travelling with kids and giving them wind down time. Located about 10 minutes drive from main Hobart in a quiet area and has its own car park that is free and easy for guests to use

Very Disappointing, for a hotel to advertise itself as one of the top luxury hotels in Tasmania it was very disappointing, from the moment we arrived from interstate to a locked hotel and no means of enterance due to locked doors the bells were ringing. After gaining entry thanks to another guest leaving not a soul could be found, no one was at reception no information nothing. After finally locating a phone number (melbourne I think) we were told to use a code for the key safe, after finally gaining access to our room we settled in for the evening to the sounds coming from the room nextdoor, everytime they used the bathroom we could hear them. After a reasonable nights sleep we arose for breakfast, it was supposed to be a continental breakfast but consisted of Cornflakes or Meusli, Toast & Preserves the was 2 slices of salami/ mortadella left on a tray and only small unappetising apples for fruit and no Juice. When I asked the young girl for more Juice she said that they had none left. For a cost of almost $300 per night this was unacceptable. There was never any staff around, we ran out of sugar and tea in our room but no way to replenish our supply so we had to visit a local supermarket to purchase our own Tea, Milk & Coffee Put simply not good enough.
