Very welcoming place to stay, my room was very clean, bed extremely comfortable, and bathroom spotless, also a view you could stare at for hours of Hobart. A convenience (grocery) shop is just 50 metres up the road and a laundromat downstairs if needed. It is abit of walk to Hobart CBD, but if you love walking it is not to bad. I found this hotel to be located in a quiet part of town also.

Room was spotlessly clean with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Great location. Within walking distance of Hobart CBD. Evening meal conveniently available on site. Bed was very comfortable and bed linen was immaculate. Good sized bar fridge and small table and chairs in room. Ensuite bathroom was clean and shower very good.

We found this hotel through agoda and it showed 3 star rating on website so we booked it. It was not difficult to find it through navigator, however I must say it is at a height and roads are very steep just before you reach here. Staff are very friendly and professional.View from our window was very good, bed was comfortable.CBD is very near,Our stay was nice overall however on one evening we had to struggle parking our car as last parking lot left at the corner was very narrow and congested. One suggestion to people, don't book this hotel through Agoda, Ring the reception directly instead. We ended up paying very hefty fees through agoda.com which is unusual.

I made a booking via booking.com- selected "pay at property". Few days later, i found another place and cancelldd this hotel within free cancellation period. Yet, I noticed that the hotel has charged me to my credit card already and the amount was higher than the one shown on booking.com. Even after i cancelled it, no refund was initiated in 2 weeks. I had to make several phone calls to bank and booking.com. They refunded me only partially (the fee i originally agreed to on booking.com) when they had charged me higher for no reason. I kept messaging them about the difference in fee they charged me and didnt get any response from them. I am from Australia and my bank is AUD so there is no excuse as difference in exchange rate here. it is just their dodgy practice!

I’d much rather write a positive review than a negative one, but the meal we had in the bar was pretty awful. I ordered nachos (soggy and inedible), two friends ordered parmigianas (usually a safe option), one ordered a chicken burger (dry as) and two ordered fish and chips (just okay). On the up side, the service was good and it was pretty cheap, so not a big $$$ investment. Won’t be back!

Reading these review sends off alarm bells for us because the reviews simply do not reflect the reality. It is sadly possible that the people writing reviews for this place are mates of the proprietors or have extremely low standards. We went to this place on the recommendations of others on Trip Advisor. When we arrived we found to our horror that the hotel is in fact a gaming lounge, bar, with a bottle shop out the back. We were expecting 5-Star-rated accommodation. The place is rough and not for the faint hearted. We only stay in lovely places with exceptional service and exceptional quality. We booked the room at 10am in the morning and arrived at around 5:30pm and realised straight away we had made a huge mistake as soon as we set eyes on the place. We went inside to cancel our booking as it was nothing we were looking for but the owner said no way was he going to give us our money back. We were mortified at the thought of staying in this trashy place but there was nothing we could do so we went and found our room. The room was as bad as the gaming lounge; old, filthy, the carpet was hideous, and the room reeked of cigarette smoke. We went straight to the manager again and pleaded with him that the room was not up to standard and not what we were looking for. The manager would not refund us. We were devastated. Please if you love good quality classy or simple but quality accommodation which has modern fresh and clean decor and rooms, do not go here. In saying that, it would make an excellent setting for a B-Grade 1980s American horror movie. But if you've got $100 to spend on accommodation, spend it somewhere nice.

My boyfriend and I travelled to Hobart during the Easter long weekend to attend a wedding at MONA and do some outdoor activities. I booked at the Marquis primarily for price and location, understanding that it was unlikely to be too flash. In all, it was OK.

Arriving on Good Friday, we had already been made aware that reception would be closed (the manager took time away from his family lunch to check us in). The room was clean, although housekeeping had neglected to provide towels and we had to go to the bottle shop to ask for them. The view towards the harbour was incredible! Really stunning.

As other reviewers have noted, it's in a hilly area of Hobart which could present problems if you have special mobility needs. But if you're in average to reasonable fitness levels, it's fine. Only a 15-20 minute walk to the CBD and waterfront.

We stayed for three nights and had a good sleep each night. I think the first two nights had the motel fairly unoccupied but the last night fairly full, as we heard a bit of noise from other rooms on the last night (showers, doors opening etc) but not disturbingly so.

We chose to forego the dining facilities in-house, preferring to eat out around Hobart. The in-house options looked pretty unappealing.

There seemed to be a leak coming from either the toilet or the shower/bath (unsure), creating an unpleasant puddle on the floor; but when we reported this to the friendly housekeeping staff member, instead of promising to actually follow it up (maybe get it fixed!) she instead offered an extra towel to mop up the water. Helpful but not as helpful as I'd hoped. Also the ironing board didn't work (annoying when you want to iron clothes to wear to a wedding), neither did the clock radio. But generally it was OK.

I think the value for money was all right without it being the bargain of the century. I might stay here again but I think I'd probably look elsewhere too.

We have just spent 3 nights at The Marquis Hotel and we're pleasantly surprised, the rooms are very good nice basic hotel room plenty of space for us, lovely and clean. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the meals are absolutely delicious. The location is quite good you can easily walk to CBC and Salamanca market but pretty big hill to walk back, no prob if you don't have a lot of shopping, but it is only $8 to get cab from cbd . We would definitely stay again. BTW beautiful view over the city.

We booked the Marquis as it was about our only option due to a very busy new year period and of course was not willing to pay $300 or more a night. Was very apprehensive about staying here after reading some of the reviews. However it turned out to be a nice surprise, yes it is a budget motel room, but the bathroom was pretty much brand new and very clean, there was great views over looking the city. I thought it was a great place to stay and would probably stay here again.
