Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We started our trip around Tassie here. The room was fine, the bed comfortable. The bath apparently had a recent makeover so was impeccable but the furniture in the room looked like it had been there since the Victorian age. Nonetheless it was all clean. If you’re planning to eat downtown, this location is up on a steep hill so you may want to consider driving. Wouldn’t mind staying here again but for a few days in Hobart I probably would look for something a bit nicer.

We stayed for 6 nights in room 12 and generally the stay was ok with a single positive but unfortunately more negatives.
Positive – The room is a triple room and has plenty of space for two people.
Negatives – The décor is tired. The room doesn’t get cleaned. Only towels replaced and bed made – well sorta made. The bottom sheet just reaches the end of the bed so gets ruffled up pretty quickly. They didn’t replace the empty tissue box or provide extra toilet paper. I had to go and ask for them. Being here for 6 days, I would expect that some sort of cleaning would take place like a quick vacuum or even wipe the bench down. The bed is just ok but will need replacing soon. The benchtops are all worn badly and coming apart
Overall, it’s a good location with a great view of the harbour and some shops nearby but management need to spend a few dollars on the place. Not a lot but enough to look clean and tidy.

Colonial decor was a mixture of old and new furniture and carpets need to be ripped up and replaced but generally clean and tidy. Small refillable both bottle of milk in fridge instead of small, thimble sized plastic throw away milk containers. Tick for helping our environment. Close to centre of town and eateries. Could walk to Shamrocks pub for excellent, cheap meals.

Room was advertised as a triple self contained. No plates or bowls were provided. Microwave was so small that the plate eventually supplied did not fit. Fridge was too small and inadequate. There was no plug for the bathroom sink. Exhaust fan in the bathroom was hanging out of the window pane. Carpet was dirty and stained. Wallpaper was peeling from the walls. An oddly placed picture on the wall concealed a hole. Seating was an old hard backed chair and one very low arm chair. There was no table so one could sit and have a meal. Each time the television was turned on the antenna cord had to be gently wiggled at the rear of the TV and the wall socket to obtain a picture reception. A request was made for the room to be made up each morning. The bed had to be remade twice at it was noticed that the doona had merely been pulled up and flattened out. The room was not dusted during the 5 night stay. The daily re-supply of milk was provided in a recycled glass jar so it was assumed the milk was still in date. The water pressure in the shower was very poor. The shower arm and head at full extension sprayed water onto the middle of this guests chest. Management refused to provide a refund for the final nights accommodation despite being offered an explanation of extenuating circumstances. It is difficult to say anything positive about the Mayfair other than the view of Hobart is lovely. I would not recommend this place.

Such great value here. The standard motel rooms are much cheaper than similar ones near the bay and it has a mountain view. The buildings are oozing with character but have been upgraded inside where needed. It has beautiful block out curtains, an art deco bathroom and lovely artwork inside. The beds were comfy enough, water pressure good, we had a decent microwave and the fridge was stocked with a jar of milk for us.

Only issue is that it is on a hill- the walk up is strenous. If you have a hire car or are getting dropped off it doesn't matter.

We arrived in Hobart and after getting out of the airport, I was called to confirm check in.
The room was supposed to be self contained, microwave and fridge isn’t self contained.
The room looked clean but old and run down. Staff very rude and we had to argue for a part refund.

Do not risk staying here

Good amenities but overpriced and did not provide basics . Coffee machine did not work and supplies such as tea sugar and spreads for toast not there Avoid this overpriced room. We were told though expensive while rooms in Hobart were short the facilities were good. The room was not serviced well with supplies at a cost of tree hundred and fifty dollars No way was it worth that. or serviced accordingly.

Accommodation was basic but clean. Living space was well sized and the kitchen had everything we needed. We couldn't quite figure out the opening hours for reception as it was often closed when we went to either to check something or get the key to use the laundry. In a good location with a handy corner store nearby.

This converted manor is a charm.

Judy and Sarah give polite efficient modernity to a motel with a lovely old time feel. There is luxurious underfloor heating and sumptuous heavy velvet blackout curtains.

The main house is history materialized with a hugely beautiful apartment honeymoon apartment and lovely baths.

A twist is the availability of old time movies at the front desk. I watched shirley temple james bond and mickey rooney.

All a close walk to town

Thankyou

We booked two nights in April. We could smell the room before the door was fully open! Body smells, dirty smells, old stained carpet smells! The furniture was ancient, worn and not clean looking. The bed cover had holes and looked like a dog blanket. It felt like a marshmallow and I didnt dare look at the mattress to check if it was clean. The carpet was badly stained all over and the bathroom needed renovating 20 years ago. We felt awkward but couldnt stay there so chatted pleasantly with reception who admitted the room did small and they had another rom with a new carpet and new mattress. The new room did not smell as bad but the carpet was stained worse than the first. The bathroom was ancient and melamine pealing and missing in parts. We simple couldnt bring ourselves to stay there and asked for a refund [eve if just for one night]. We did not get a refund and the owner stobbornly kept referring us to Booking.com for our problem. They emailed her that night and she never replied to them. Reading reviews later I saw that at some time the place was used as a brothel, maybe that explains the copious stains. We ended up paying 2 nights accomodation and booked elsewhere. I telephones the owner and asked why she didnt reply to booking.com so we could get a refund, suddenly her english wasnt as good as it was when we met!! She didnt offer anything. I suggested she use our money to buy a new bedspread! My only regret was that I was so shocked by the state of the room I forgot to take pictures to share with you.
