I stayed 2 nights at Mercure Welcome in a King Room on the 5th floor (upgraded at check-in from a Queen Room) in November 2011 and had no complaints. As mentioned by many reviewers the location of the hotel is fantastic and central to everywhere in Melbourne. I arrived into Melbourne late in the evening and used the Skybus transfer...

An overall good stay at the hotel. Strategic location right in the heart of the city. I arrived late at night and yet was able to find eating places open within walking distance at Chinatown. It is also near to lots of shops and just one door away from David Jones and Myer. There are 3 entrances to the hotel;...

Excellent location in heart of Melbourne and excellent value for money. Very clean and quiet and I would recommend to anyone. Breakfast was very basic though and only ate at the restaurant for dinner once as it was very poor quality and poor value for money.

A nice little hotel in the middle of everything. Central location close to transit, restaurant, shopping, Chinatown & downtown attractions. If you're from any other country besides Australia & New Zealand, I do suggest you bring your own power adaptor. Hotel would provide it free of charge but they're out most of the time and the girl at the front...

the room was small, the view of a brick wall gave you the feeling of being in a prison, the drinks at the bar too expensive, the trolleys left in the hallways tea coffee biscuits shampoo etc all for the taking and occupational safety issue was dangerous, the only good part was the location close to everything in the city...

The only way this hotel earned its 3.5 star rating is for location. The rooms are similar to backpacker accommodation. The hallways REEK of marijuana. The vending machines on each floor don't work. The TV in my room flickered from light to dark every few seconds. The shower leaks. My window looked straight onto a brick wall. The restaurant double...

A short weehend in Melb. or just a few days to spare stay at the Mercure Welcome Melbourne. Shopping just outside the hotel door, very convenient for dropping parcels off and starting again. A comfortable room to enjoy (afer being reinvigrated after a substansial breakfast) between shopping expeditions. Restaurants theatre and concert halls within a stones throw from the hotel....

This is my second review for the Mercure Welcome after our second stay. Our first stay was in 2006 and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This time we enjoyed our stay, although we had a very different room from our last stay. Firstly the positives of this hotel remain the same. It is very central and it well priced. In...

The service was great the room was great as far as facilities go but being located next to the lift well meant everytime it moved you heard it, the was also the sound of running water regularly, and the light from the corridors came through the gaps in the door. You could also hear all the footsteps in the corridor....

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
