Me and my friend stayed in Greenhouse Backpackers for 2 nights (1/11/2016-3/11/2016). This hostel is basically located in the heart of the Melbourne city, with proximity to many tourist sites (Exp: Federation Square, Yarra River Bank etc). The idea of individual lamp at each bedside is a plus as it reduces the disturbance to other roommates. However, when we checked... More

I stayed in Greenhouse backpacker for 7 days (from 15 Oct to 22 Oct). Really appreciate that there are two receptionists that i met in the evening are really helpful and friendly, but i don't know their name. Everything is good, but kitchen(lots of stoves are broken). In addition, the kitchen cleaning time is weird, sometimes is 11PM, but sometimes... More

The hostel is a gem! It is located right in the city which makes it extremely accessible to various attractions, eateries and shopping spots. The rooms and bathrooms are clean - pretty unusual for a hostel. The dorms are gender-specific, making it safe even for solo travellers. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay there!

Spent two nights here while visiting Melbourne for Derby Day. Perfect location close to train station which took us to Flemington, friendly staff. Clean rooms. Basic but perfect for what we wanted. Shared bathrooms and showers were clean. Would recommend to friends.

We had a good stay at this hostel.. the location is amazing, right in the center of the city with a 7/11 just a 5 second walk away. The place was clean, it had lights by the bed and free wifi all the time. Now we have learnt that this is rare for a hostel. The place has a nice... More

We stayed in a five bed dorm. The dorm we were staying in was nothing like the pictures on the website. There were 2 bunks and one single bed cramped into the smallest of spaces. The floor and our beds were covered in other peoples belongings and the room smelt of weed. As people are not assigned specific beds, someone... More

Stayed here for a week in one of the private rooms - was very happy with the location (this is why we chose this hostel). I have stayed in many hostels over the years and I think this one is a good case of 'location location location' - the rooms are basic and the showers reminded me of gym locker... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
