I loved the Old English feel of the hotel. The food in the restaurant was great and I liked being able to have a drink in the bar after I came in at night. The stairs were good to get the heart rate going :-) I was there for the World Darts Masters and it was only a short walk...

We had booked to stay here for two nights the weekend of the Waiheke half marathon. What started out as a great first impression with beautiful character ended very quickly after the first night. We noticed a strange smell in the corridor to our room where blue bags of old laundry laid, it only got worse well we were here...

Nice little pub which brews its own beer. They only had 2 of their own beers on tap, but they had about 4 or 5 different varieties in bottles. The barman told me it was $4-$5 cheaper if I took it away rather than drink it inside the bar! They had a good selection of other New Zealand beers as...

We chose The Shakespeare for its great location to attractions and transport as well as its funky English charm. We made a friend in the manager and he was great! He gave us background info on the property as well as suggestions on where to go in NZ during our short stay (3 nights). I loved how there was a...

Found the hotel to be great value. Rooms were clean, but the one we were booked into was very small so if you're staying longer than a couple of nights maybe you should request a room that isn't on the top floor (t's maybe a converted attic space?) Really close to town - obviously t's noisy on the weekends and...

The hotel reception is also the pub's bar, and check in was quick and easy. Our room was in the attic and the room was quite hot and stuffy, the windows didn't open far , as we need to let them open, it was very loud. Almost no sleep, as it's so noisy outside.Room was fine, sparsely furnished , but...

Attending a case at the District Court we went to the Shakespeare restaurant for a quick dinner. Had the calamari and chips, both very nice and the waitress was extremely pleasant and efficient. I had been there about 40 years ago so it bought back some memories. I think it's nicer now than what it was way back then.

I stayed at this place for 2 nights in Auckland. The room was okay, very clean and tidy but it was a bit small. The staffs there were nice. I enjoyed the dinner there as well, tasty but the problem was the portpotion - way too much for me. The best thing is the location - easy to connect to...

Visited there in 2013 so a must return in 2016. Lovely to sit back, have a few brewed in house beers and watch the locals and some tourists at leisure. Service can be stressed at times but understandable. Friendly staff who effectively looked after visitors as well as locals. Food plentiful and reasonable value. Tremendous old world charm effectively working...
